Wed Apr 13 202200:53Liam Hendriks Earns Shaky Save Tuesday
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks picked up a difficult first save of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mariners. Hendriks entered the game in the ninth inning up by two. He alternated between strikeouts and singles for the first four hitters, then allowed a run on a Jesse Winker single, but was able to strike out Mitch Haniger to end the game. Hendriks' final stat line was one run allowed on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts over an inning pitched. The 33-year-old is regarded as one of fantasy's top closers. However, he has gotten off to a shaky start, posting a 13.50 ERA through two appearances with a save, a loss, and five strikeouts. It is way too early in the season for fantasy managers to worry, so they should keep their trust in Hendriks.

Sat Apr 2 202213:32Liam Hendriks Allows One Run On Friday
Chicago White Sox right-hander Liam Hendriks allowed one run over two-thirds of an inning in a 12-4 loss to the Oakland A's in Cactus League action on Friday. Hendriks struck out two, walked one and allowed one hit in the outing. The veteran right-hander has made five appearances this spring, allowing three runs over 4 2/3 innings of work with four strikeouts. Hendriks is firmly established as Chicago's closer and should be in line for an excellent season. The White Sox are expected to be strong contenders in the American League and should provide plenty of save chances for the 33-year-old in 2022. He should be one of the first fantasy closers off the board in drafts.

Sun Sep 5 202109:07Liam Hendriks Racks Up 32nd Save
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning to secure his 32nd save of the season Saturday versus the Kansas City Royals. Hendriks recorded one strikeout in the frame. Despite having some shaky outings in the second half of the season, Hendriks continues to get the job done and remains one of the best closers in the game. For the season, he owns a steady 3.00 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched.

Thu Sep 2 202108:10Liam Hendriks Records 31st Save
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks recorded a save for the second day in a row versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Hendriks went 1 2/3 innings to record the final five outs and allowed one hit with two strikeouts. The All-Star has hit some bumps in the road during the second half of the season, but he continues to have a good season overall. The Pale Hose have Thursday off, so it's unclear at the moment if Hendriks will be unavailable on Friday. For the season, Hendriks has 31 saves with a 3.05 ERA. He remains one of the best closers in the league. If Hendriks were to be unavailable on Friday, look for Craig Kimbrel to get the first crack at a save chance.

Wed Sep 1 202109:11Liam Hendriks Converts 30th Save
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks recorded his 30th save of the season in Tuesday's victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hendriks was dominant in the first half of the season, but has had some struggles in the second half of the year. Hendriks allowed one hit during his outing and failed to record a strikeout, but he was able to get the job done. The White Sox acquired relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel from the Cubs at the trade deadline and despite working a clean top of the eighth inning on Tuesday, Kimbrel has mostly struggled with his new club. Hendriks has previously said he would pitch in whatever role is necessary, but it seems that manager Tony La Russa feels his best options at the end of the game are Kimbrel in the eighth inning and Hendriks in the ninth. For the season, Hendriks has 30 saves and a 3.14 ERA. He remains one of the better closers in the game.

Thu Aug 19 202113:06Liam Hendriks Not Available For Thursday
Chicago White Sox reliever Liam Hendriks will not pitch Thursday against the Oakland Athletics, according to manager Tony La Russa. Hendriks threw 23 pitches in 1.2 innings the day before and is getting the day off. Expect Craig Kimbrel to pitch if a save situation arises. Hendriks is having another fantastic year out of the bullpen, with 28 saves, a 3.25 ERA, and a 43.3 K% across 52.2 innings. Fantasy managers should take him out of the lineup but can slot him right back in for Friday's game.

Mon Aug 16 202123:54Liam Hendriks Tosses A Perfect Ninth Inning
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning with three strikeouts to earn his 27th save of the season on Monday versus the Oakland Athletics. The White Sox closer had been shaky entering the contest with a blown save and seven runs (six earned) allowed over his last two outings. Hendriks came back strong on Monday and it was the 11th time this season that he has struck out three batters in an inning. Hendriks will have plenty of save opportunities moving forward and managers should feel confident with him moving forward. The closer now owns a 3.35 ERA.

Fri Aug 13 202107:55Liam Hendriks Blows Sixth Save, Earns Victory
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks blew his sixth save of the season on Thursday versus the New York Yankees. Hendriks was called on for the save with a three-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, but failed to pick up the save. Hendriks completed the inning with three hits, four runs, one walk and three strikeouts. All four of his runs came off of two-run home runs off the bats of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Despite the rough outing, Hendriks still earned a victory with shortstop Tim Anderson hitting a game winning two-run homer in the bottom of the frame. Hendriks has now blown two of his last three save opportunities, but still remains one of the top closers in the game. With relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel in the picture, there is a chance he could see some save opportunities, but Hendriks should remain the guy moving forward. Hendriks is now 7-2 with 26 saves and a 3.08 ERA.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Fri Jul 30 202123:59Liam Hendriks Records 26th Save
Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks recorded his 26th save of the season versus the Cleveland Indians on Friday. Hendriks was coming off a blown save on Wednesday, but returned to form this evening with a 1-2-3 inning to secure a White Sox victory. Hendriks remains one of the best closers in the game and now owns a 2.53 ERA. The White Sox acquired closer Craig Kimbrel earlier in the day and Kimbrel has been one of the best closers in the league this year. Manager Tony La Russa said that he expects both Hendriks and Kimbrel to record saves and both should have plenty of value the rest of the season, especially in leagues that count holds.

Fri Jul 30 202119:05White Sox get closer Kimbrel from Cubs for Madrigal, Heuer
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox acquired closer Craig Kimbrel from the crosstown Cubs on Friday, a move that should give the AL Central leaders a fearsome bullpen for their playoff push. The White Sox already had one of baseball's best closers in All-Star Liam Hendriks. Now the South Siders add Kimbrel, who has a 0.49 ERA and 23 saves in 25 opportunities for the Cubs this season and leads NL relievers in strikeout rate and opponents' batting average. Kimbrel ranks ninth with 371 career saves during his 12 years in the majors. White Sox manager Tony La Russa said he had a plan for how to use both closers, but was not ready to divulge specifics. “On any given day, one may be available, the other one may not be,” general manager Rick Hahn said. “It puts us in a position where we have a very dynamic and impactful bullpen regardless of the situation that arises in each game.” The White Sox paid quite a price to get Kimbrel: They sent second baseman Nick Madrigal, a budding star who is out... The White Sox paid quite a price to get him: They sent second baseman Nick Madrigal, a budding star who is out for the season with a torn right hamstring, to the Cubs along with right-handed reliever Codi Heuer. “We viewed Craig as the premier relief pitcher available at this trade deadline, and so we knew the cost would be steep in terms of parting with young talent,” White sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. “But we recognize the special opportunity... ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Aaron Judge went from being a late scratch to hitting a tiebreaking single in a two-run 10th inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight day, 3-1 on Wednesday night. Judge was taken out of the lineup about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Although no announcement was made about why, the All-Star right fielder struck out in the fifth pinch-hitting for Estevan Florial. Judge returned to the team Tuesday after going on the COVID-19 injured list July 16. New York also had a big night off the field. The Yankees reached a deal to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch from Pete Fairbanks (3-4) leading off the 10th, putting runners on first and second. Judge... [More]
