Thu May 5 202222:05Carlos Correa Exits Thursday's Game After HBP
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist, hand) exited Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by pitches in the wrist and hand. He was hit by two pitches in consecutive at-bats, once in the left wrist, once in the right hand. The 27-year-old was replaced by Nick Gordon in the seventh inning. He will be re-evaluated after the game. The severity of Correa's injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Gordon would see an increase in playing time if Correa were to miss any games. Stay tuned.

Tue Apr 26 202211:10Carlos Correa Open To Long-Term Deal With Twins
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa's $35.1 million salary in 2022 is the highest for an infielder in major league history and he can opt out of his three-year deal with the Twins after this season. However, Correa has already spoken with president of baseball operations Derek Falvey and general manager Thad Levine to express his willingness to sign a longer-term deal. "I told 'em, 'Hey guys, I know I have the opt-outs in the contract. But I really like it here,'" Correa said. The Twins plan to continue dialogue with Correa's agent, Scott Boras. The 27-year-old didn't appear in a spring training game until March 27 and is off to a slow start in Minnesota, hitting just .192 (10-for-52) with home homer, three RBI and 18 strikeouts in 14 games. He's typically started off slow, so his fantasy managers are hoping he'll get back on track soon.

Mon Apr 18 202214:20Carlos Correa Off To Slow Start In Minnesota
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa hasn't had the most ideal start at the plate in a Twins uniform. The 27-year-old entered play on Monday batting .133 with a .212 on-base percentage, one home run, four walks and 14 strikeouts in 33 plate appearances for Minnesota. Those kinds of numbers, including a 39.4% strikeout rate, aren't likely to continue, but it's been a slow start nonetheless. Correa also entered play Monday sporting a minuscule .188 BABIP, which likely has something to do with his lack of production at the plate. Additionally, the shortstop has never logged a strikeout rate north of 24% in his career, so that number also seems likely to improve over the course of the season.

Fri Mar 25 202214:32Carlos Correa Will Make Twins Debut Sunday
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa will reportedly make his team debut in Grapefruit League play on Sunday according to MLB.com's Do-Hyoung Park. Correa hit .279 with a .366 on-base percentage and 26 home runs in 640 plate appearances last season with the Houston Astros. Now with the Twins, Correa should continue to be an above-average fantasy option at his position, though his RBI and run-scoring numbers may decline to a degree with Minnesota in a lineup that doesn't have the depth that the Astros had last season. Houston led the league in runs scored last season, and while the Twins should have a quality lineup with Correa, Byron Buxton, Jorge Polanco, Gio Urshela, and Gary Sanchez they don't look like a surefire bet to finish in the top 10 in the league in runs scored this season.

Sat Mar 19 202207:09Carlos Correa, Twins Reportedly Agree To Three-Year Deal
The Minnesota Twins and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa reportedly agreed on a three-year, $105.3 million contract. His $35.1 million annual salary is the highest average for any infielder in MLB history. The 27-year-old slashed .279/.366/.485 with 26 home runs, 92 RBI, and 104 runs scored over 640 plate appearances for the Astros in 2021. Minnesota continues to build up its roster and has now acquired Gio Urshela, Gary Sanchez, Sonny Gray, and Correa. The former Astro has hit well at Target Field and owns a 1.200 career OPS at his new home ballpark. Correa is a borderline top-10 shortstop and should produce for fantasy managers this season with an improved Twins lineup.

Tue Mar 15 202213:32Astros To Make New Offer To Carlos Correa
The Houston Astros plan to make a new offer to free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa shortly, according to a source. Correa's potential return is creating buzz in camp, and "players can't stop talking about it," according to one source. Correa and Freddie Freeman are the biggest names left on the open market with spring training games beginning later this week. The 27-year-old has been discussing a potential one-year deal to return to Houston, but if they can't agree, he could look for a long-term deal in the five- to 10-year range. Correa was reportedly seeking a $330-350 million deal earlier in the offseason before MLB's lockout. He's currently ranked as the No. 13 fantasy shortstop by RotoBaller, but he could become more attractive with a return to Houston.

Sun Mar 13 202222:45Astros Reportedly Talking To Carlos Correa
The Houston Astros reportedly are talking to free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa in an effort to keep him in Houston. He declined his $18.4 million qualifying offer from the Astros during the offseason. The 27-year-old is one of the top available free agents remaining on the market and has been linked to various teams. He set career-highs in home runs (26), RBI (92), and runs (104) in 2021. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Correa could come back to Houston on a one-year deal. Correa will be in the mix as a top-10 fantasy shortstop if he remains with the Astros for another season. Stay tuned.

Fri Mar 11 202209:03Cubs Among Favorites To Land Carlos Correa
Free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa is one of the top available free agents remaining on the market and has been linked to a variety of teams. As of now, the Chicago Cubs appear to be one of the most likely landing spots for the former Astro. The Cubs were engaged in heavy dialogue with Correa prior to the lockout in early December, and the expectation is that those conversations will resume now that the lockout has ended. While Wrigley Field is certainly a favorable hitting environment, Correa would have a much inferior supporting cast in Chicago, compared with Houston.

Fri Feb 25 202216:19Yankees Reached Out To Carlos Correa
The New York Yankees reached out to free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa before the lockout in early December. The likelihood of the Yankees signing Correa is unknown since it seemed like Corey Seager was higher on their wish list. Correa is also seeking more money than Seager, who received $325 million from the Texas Rangers. Other potential fits for Correa include the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox, although Correa might not be a great fit in Boston. Correa switched to agent Scott Boras in January, which could complicate any potential deal with the Yankees.

Wed Dec 1 202123:02Carlos Correa Comfortable Waiting Through Lockout
Free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa has received plenty of interest and many offers on the open market as the top free agent available, but he is comfortable waiting through the coming lockout for the right offer. The usual big-spending teams have not spent big yet, and if the tax threshold rises with a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, it could benefit Correa if he waits it out. Correa has reportedly heard from the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves and was offered a five-year deal worth $160 million by the Houston Astros last month, according to FOX 26's Mark Berman. The Cubs appear to be trying to compete after signing starting pitcher Marcus Stroman on Wednesday night. And the Braves could be looking for another big bat if they aren't able to re-sign star first baseman Freddie Freeman.

Fri Nov 19 202120:30Carlos Correa Too Expensive For Tigers?
According to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Tigers love Carlos Correa. However, Heyman also states that he's "heard from Tigers people who insist they will not spend $300M on any one player due to multiple needs." The insider also mentions that Detroit is reportedly "considering" both Marcus Semien and Javier Baez. Correa hit .279 with a .366 on-base percentage and 26 home runs in 640 plate appearances for the Astros last season. What's more, the Tigers do need a shortstop. Detroit shortstops combined for the third-lowest fWAR output and the fourth-lowest collective wRC+ in the league. Detroit's pursuit of a free agent shortstop will be one of the more interesting offseason storylines to follow in the coming weeks and months.

Mon Nov 15 202120:29Carlos Correa Officially Declines Qualifying Offer
Star free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa officially declined the Houston Astros' one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer on Monday. This comes as no surprise, as Correa is at the top of the prized free-agent shortstop market this offseason. The 27-year-old will be highly sought after, perhaps primarily by the New York Yankees, and is unlikely to return to Houston in 2022 and beyond. The Detroit Tigers, who just signed lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to a five-year deal on Monday, could be the favorites for Correa's services as they look to go from rebuilding to contending. In his final season with the Astros, Correa made the All-Star team for the second time in his career and hit .279/.366/.485 with a career-high 26 home runs, 92 RBI and 104 runs scored in 640 plate appearances over 148 games played.

Wed Nov 10 202121:27Yankees Talking To Agents For Corey Seager And Carlos Correa
According to CBS Sports' Jim Bowden, the New York Yankees are reportedly "in conversation with agents for both Corey Seager and Carlos Correa." The Yankees certainly make sense, speculatively speaking, as a fit for one of the winter's top free-agent shortstops. New York could easily shift Gleyber Torres to second base and play DJ LeMahieu more at the infield corners. A move to New York for either Seager or Correa certainly wouldn't hurt from a fantasy standpoint as they'd potentially be hitting in front of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Sat Nov 6 202119:28Astros Make Offer To Carlos Correa
The Houston Astros reportedly offered free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa $160 million for five years, according to sources. That would be less than half of what Francisco Lindor got from the New York Mets when Lindor wasn't even a free agent. Unless something changes dramatically, Correa won't be making a return to Houston in 2022. Correa could be in line to receive the largest deal of any free agent this offseason. But if the Astros can't bring him back, they could go with Corey Seager, Trevor Story, Javier Baez or Marcus Semien, who are also all free agents. Another option could be to move third baseman Alex Bregman to the 6. Two of the likeliest teams to pursue Correa are the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers.

The 26-year-old is batting .279 with a .366 on-base percentage and 25 home runs in 636 plate appearances this season. Instead, it'll be Aledmys Diaz starting at shortstop and hitting seventh. Diaz could be worth a look as a streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues on Saturday. The 30-year-old is batting .262 with a .322 on-base percentage and eight home runs in 311 plate appearances this season.
