DETROIT (AP) — Cleveland Indians starter Mike Clevinger will miss at least six weeks with a back muscle injury.The Indians placed the right-hander on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Monday. He was pulled from Sunday's 3-1 victory against Toronto after five innings and 75 pitches.The team announced Tuesday that Clevinger has strained his teres major, a muscle in his upper back. Manager Terry Francona said it would be six to eight weeks before he picks up a ball and resumes pitching activity.Clevinger is 1-0 and has not allowed an earned run in 12 innings over two starts this season, striking out 22. The 28-year-old was 13-8 with a 3.02 ERA last season.The Indians called up righty Nick Wittgren, a reliever from Triple-A Columbus. CLEVELAND (AP) — Looking to reconstruct their bullpen, the Cleveland Indians acquired right-hander Nick Wittgren from the Miami Marlins.The three-time defending AL Central champions sent right-hander Jordan Milbrath to the Marlins for Wittgren, who made 32 appearances for Miami last season. The 27-year-old posted a 2.94 ERA and also pitched for Triple-A New Orleans.He has a 3.60 ERA in 118 games for the Marlins over the past three seasons. Wittgren was designated for assignment last week and has one option remaining.The Indians will spend spring training focused on a replenishing a bullpen that no longer includes franchise saves leader Cody Allen or elite left-hander Andrew Miller. Both signed elsewhere as free agents this offseason.Brad Hand, who came over in a trade last July, is expected to take over full-time closer duties after mostly setting up last season.To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Indians designated right-hander A.J. MIAMI (AP) — Switch-hitting infielder Neil Walker agreed Tuesday to a $2 million, one-year contract with the Miami Marlins and is expected to compete for a starting job.Walker was among the unsigned free agents last winter who attend a free agent training camp in Bradenton, Florida, and he agreed in mid-March to a $4 million, one-year contract with the New York Yankees.Walker has taken steady pay cuts since 2017, when he accepted a $17.2 million qualifying offer from the New York Mets. His salary is his lowest since 2012, before he was eligible for arbitration. He earned $3.3 million in 2013, $5.75 million in 2014, $8 million when he lost in arbitration in 2015 and $10.55 million in 2016.He slumped badly last year, hitting .197 with 19 RBIs in the first half, then improved to .247 with 27 RBIs in the second half to finish at .219 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs in 113 games.Marlins right-handed reliever Nick Wittgren, who had a 2.94 ERA in 32 games last year, was designated for assignment.Walker has a .268 career average and has reached double figures in homers every year since 2010.He has also been with the Pirates, Mets and Brewers. DENVER (AP) — Right-hander Jose Urena has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder impingement, the latest setback in a disappointing season for the Miami Marlins' opening day starter.Urena is 2-9 with a 4.40 ERA. He had a shutout through five innings in his most recent start Wednesday at San Francisco and then gave up five runs in the sixth and took the loss.He complained afterward that he felt something wrong with his arm.The Marlins began a weekend series Friday in Denver, and the roster move was retroactive to Thursday.
