New York Mets Infielder Eduardo Escobar (oblique) had an MRI on his sore left oblique, which came back clean per beat writer Anthony DiComo. The 33-year-old exited Friday's contest early after injuring his side. Escobar told reporters that he still feels some discomfort when he swings but that he's getting better every day. He should be able to avoid the injured list but he'll likely remain out for a few more games before returning to the lineup.

Fri Aug 12 202221:08Eduardo Escobar Leaves Friday's Game With InjuryEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar left Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with left side tightness. Escobar is expected to go for imaging to see the extent of his side injury. The 33-year-old infielder was replaced in the lineup by Luis Guillorme, who entered the game at second base with Mark Canha shifting over to third base from the outfield. Escobar is hitting .220 with 12 homers, 41 runs, and 43 RBI across 369 at-bats in 2022. Look for the Mets to update his status after Friday's game concludes.

Tue Aug 9 202214:55Nationals Claim Jake McGee Off WaiversJake McGeeRPRaysFree Agent
The Washington Nationals have reportedly claimed left-handed reliever Jake McGee off waivers, according to a tweet from MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. McGee started the year with the San Francisco Giants and also spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers. All told, he's logged a 7.00 ERA, a 4.70 FIP and three saves in 27 innings of work this season. The veteran, who notched 31 saves for the Giants last season, will give the Nationals another late-inning option alongside the likes of Kyle Finnegan, Hunter Harveyand Victor Arano. Per Camerato's tweet, the Nationals designated outfielder Donovan Casey for assignment to make room for McGee on the active roster.

Wed Aug 3 202216:31Eduardo Escobar, Luis Guillorme To Platoon At 3BEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
Luis GuillormeFree Agent
New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter is comfortable moving forward with a platoon situation at third base between Eduardo Escobar and Luis Guillorme. Escobar was out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against Washington Nationals right-hander Anibal Sanchez, and the 33-year-old veteran switch-hitter figures to be on the short side of the platoon moving forward. That means he'll likely only be at third base when the Mets are facing a left-handed pitcher. Escobar is hitting just .199 (48-for-241) against righties this year while going 30-for-115 (.261) with six of his 12 homers against southpaws. Meanwhile, the lefty hitting Guillorme is batting .312 (49-for-157) with both of his home runs and nine RBI against righties in 2022.

Wed Aug 3 202213:45Rich Hill Starting Wednesday Against AstrosRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill (knee) will start Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros instead of Brayan Bello. Hill was activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday, and he'll return to the starting rotation in a tough matchup against the first-place Astros. The 42-year-old veteran southpaw only threw three innings and 56 pitches in his only minor league rehab start, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to have a long leash in this one. The matchup alone should scare fantasy managers off. In 15 starts before his injury, Hill had gone 4-4 with a 4.20 ERA (4.05 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP and a 58:23 K:BB over 70 2/3 innings pitched. He's not a bad pickup in deeper leagues for rotation depth if he's available on the waiver wire.

Mon Aug 1 202215:48Rich Hill Lined Up To Start On WednesdayRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill (knee) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list in order to start on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. Nathan Eovaldi and Kutter Crawford will start the first two games of the series on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Hill, 42, went only three innings and 56 pitches in his only minor league rehab start for Double-A Portland last week, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to have a long leash in his first start back this week against a tough opponent in the first-place Astros. Before his injury, Hill had a 4.20 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 58 strikeouts and 23 walks in 70 2/3 innings over 15 starts. There isn't a ton of fantasy upside left in his left arm.

Wed Jul 27 202211:30Christian Arroyo, Rich Hill Starting Rehab AssignmentsRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Christian ArroyoFree Agent
Boston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Christian Arroyo (groin) will "most likely" start a minor league rehab assignment for Double-A Portland on Wednesday, according to manager Alex Cora. Left-hander Rich Hill (knee) will make a rehab start for Portland on Wednesday. Arroyo faced Hill during the southpaw's three-inning simulated game last Friday. Arroyo has limited fantasy value as a utility player for Boston who is hitting .224/.278/.362 with four homers, 13 RBI and three stolen bases in 2022. Hill has been out since July 2, but he could be cleared to return to Boston after one or two rehab starts. The 42-year-old veteran will return to a 4-4 record, 4.20 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings over 15 starts.

Tue Jul 26 202200:07Rich Hill To Begin Rehab Assignment WednesdayRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Rich Hill (knee) will begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday, per Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo. The veteran has been out of action since the beginning of July with a left knee sprain. Both fantasy managers and the Red Sox could use Hill back, as he has managed a serviceable 4.20 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 15 starts this season. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for further news as to how long Hill's rehab assignment may be.

Tue Jul 19 202211:33Rich Hill Could Return To Rotation SoonRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill (knee) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session at Yankee Stadium last Saturday, and he could return to the starting rotation shortly after the All-Star break. Hill said he wore his knee brace during his latest bullpen session and it felt great. The Red Sox could really use the veteran southpaw back after they just lost Chris Sale again to a broken left pinkie finger that he suffered in the final game before the All-Star break. The 42-year-old Hill may not need to go on a minor league rehab assignment. In his 15 starts for the BoSox this year, Hill has gone 4-4 with a 4.20 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 58 strikeouts and 23 walks in 70 2/3 innings pitched.

Wed Jul 13 202223:31Rich Hill To Throw On ThursdayRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Rich Hill (knee) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Thursday. The 42-year-old threw off flat ground on Wednesday, so he appears to be making progress. However, the Red Sox continue to be cautious with the veteran southpaw. The hope is that Hill is cleared to face live hitters, assuming everything goes well during Thursday's session. The left-hander could be back in the Red Sox rotation by the end of July. Hill isn't exactly a reliable fantasy option, but could have some streaming appeal once he returns.

Sat Jul 9 202218:17Jake McGee DFA'd By GiantsJake McGeeRPRaysFree Agent
San Francisco Giants left-handed reliever Jake McGee was designated for assignment on Saturday. What a fall from grace for the Giant's former closer. After saving 31 games for the team last season, he has recorded just three in 2022 and has seen his role increasingly diminish throughout the season. His 7.17 ERA and 1.55 WHIP are reason enough for this move, but his underlying stats are somehow even worse, with McGee sporting an 8.27 xERA and 11.5% strikeout rate. As a lefty with a decent pedigree, he is sure to be picked up by someone, but he has next to no fantasy value anymore.

Fri Jul 1 202218:20Rich Hill Feels Pop In His Knee FridayRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Rich Hill (knee) stated that he felt a pop in his knee during his start against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. According to Red Sox manager Alex Cora, the team is currently waiting to find out how serious the issue is. In his post-game presser, Hill said that he put the team in a "tough position" while trying to pitch through the ailment. Hill's final line for the day was 4 2/3 innings, three hits, four walks, three earned runs and three strikeouts. The team wound up losing 6-5. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start next Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but we should know more about his situation and his prospects of making that start soon.

Sun Jun 26 202213:33Joe Smith Placed On 15-Day Injured ListJoe SmithRPIndiansFree Agent
The Minnesota Twins placed relief pitcher Joe Smith (neck) on the 15-day injured list with upper trapezius tightness on Sunday. The move is retroactive to June 24. The Twins called up fellow relief pitcher Jovani Moran to fill Smith's roster spot. Smith has had a solid year out of the Twins' pen. He's made 28 appearances and he's racked up 14 holds while pitching to a 2.78 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. However, his 4.63 xERA suggests that he's been fortunate thus far. He's also currently sporting a career-low 13.3% strikeout rate, which ranks in the bottom 6% of the league.

New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar (head) is expected to make his return to the starting lineup on Saturday. He was dealing with a headache and dizziness on Thursday, which led to a hospital visit. Luckily, Escobar has been treated and is feeling much better. Escobar has been off to a slow start to the season, but will hopefully turn it around soon. Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday to make sure Escobar actually gets back in the lineup.

Fri Jun 17 202216:23Eduardo Escobar May Be Dealing With Vision IssuesEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar was taken to the hospital on Thursday and is getting his vision checked after he appeared disoriented to teammates. Escobar remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Luis Guillorme will start at the hot corner again and hit seventh on Friday against Marlins right-hander Pablo Lopez. Guillorme has just one home run on the season and is hitting only .222 (8-for-36) in 11 games in June, but overall he's slashing .322/.410/.388 with a .799 OPS in 141 plate appearances. He'll be a low-upside DFS play near the bottom of the lineup.

New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson is back at third base and is hitting fifth on Wednesday against Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan after serving his one-game suspension on Tuesday. With DJ LeMahieu shifting to second base while hitting leadoff, Gleyber Torres will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth on Wednesday. Since returning from a stint on the COVID injured list and while being sidelined with a shoulder injury, Donaldson hasn't done much at the plate, going 7-for-32 (.219) with no home runs, three RBI and nine strikeouts in eight games since June 3. Overall, he's hitting just .235/.335/.395 with five homers and 18 RBI in 191 plate appearances and will be a weak DFS play against a strong left-hander.

Sun Jun 12 202210:59Josh Donaldson Sitting Out SundayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs. In his absence, DJ LeMahieu will start at the hot corner and bat leadoff against Cubs right-hander Keegan Thompson. Donaldson is hitting just .235/.335/.395 with five home runs, 18 RBI, 18 runs scored and one stolen base in 191 plate appearances over 45 games this year. The 36-year-old has had a rough start to the month of June and could probably use a little break. LeMahieu, meanwhile, has gone 9-for-32 (.281) with two home runs and seven RBI in eight games so far in June. He's a very attractive DFS target in the leadoff spot on Sunday against Chicago.

Tue Jun 7 202211:09Eduardo Escobar Hits For Cycle Monday NightEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar became the first Met to hit for the cycle in 10 years on Monday night in the win over the San Diego Padres. "It's unbelievable," said Escobar, who finished 4-for-5 with six RBI in the Mets 11-5 win over the Padres. "It's hard, hitting the cycle at this level. Today is a special night for me." As recently as May 21, Escobar was hitting .203, but he has since broken out with three home runs, multiple four-hit nights and a .333 average in his last 14 games. He became the 28th switch-hitter in MLB history to hit for the cycle, and the first since Jonathan Villar in 2019. The 33-year-old is now hitting .241/.311/.414 on the season with five home runs, 24 RBI and 27 runs scored in 53 games. Continue to ride the hot streak.

Fri Jun 3 202216:03Josh Donaldson Back From Injured List And Starting FridayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (shoulder) was activated from the injured list on Friday and is playing third base and batting cleanup against Detroit Tigers right-hander Elvin Rodriguez. Donaldson initially went on the injured list with a non-COVID illness and then dealt with right shoulder inflammation. He's been out since May 24 and received a cortisone injection in his shoulder. Donaldson should return to everyday duties at the hot corner, with DJ LeMahieu moving back to the keystone. The 36-year-old is facing a one-game suspension for an altercation with Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson before he landed on the IL. Donaldson is hitting .238/.349/.415 with five home runs, 15 RBI and 17 runs scored in 130 at-bats this season.

Tue May 31 202222:58Josh Donaldson Could Return SoonJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
The New York Yankees are encouraged that third baseman Josh Donaldson (shoulder) will come off the 10-day injured list soon. He was initially on the COVID-19 injured list, even though he tested negative for the virus. The Yankees then transferred Donaldson to the injured list with a shoulder injury. The 36-year-old received a cortisone injection for an issue he's dealt with off and on in the past. Whenever he returns, he'll be facing a one-game suspension for comments he made to Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. Donaldson is eligible to return from the IL on June 3, and it sounds like he'll be back by then. Before the injury, he was hitting .238/.349/.415 with five home runs and 15 RBI. DJ LeMahieu and Marwin Gonzalez have been splitting time at the hot corner with Donaldson out.
