Sun Oct 4 201515:27An MRI on Murphy's shoulder revealed no structural damage
An MRI on Murphy's shoulder revealed no structural damage, but the injury will prevent him from participating in the Arizona Fall League, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Murphy has officially been diagnosed with a shoulder strain and contusion. Though the injury will prevent him from taking part in the Fall League, it's not believed to be an overly significant setback. He should be back to full health for spring training and is expected to compete for an everyday role with the Rockies in 2016.
Sun Oct 4 201513:34Murphy (shoulder) out of lineup Sunday against Giants
Murphy (shoulder) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
Unsurprisingly, the Rockies will shut Murphy down after he strained his left shoulder in Saturday's game. Though Colorado is expected to bring Nick Hundley and Mike McKenry back next season, Murphy should be a candidate to contend for an Opening Day role with the Rockies in 2016 as the backup catcher. He's hit 23 homers and 27 doubles across three levels this season.
Sat Oct 3 201518:35Murphy left Saturday's game with apparent left shoulder injury
Murphy left Saturday's game with an apparent left shoulder injury, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
He hurt himself on a pickoff play, which he was thrown out on. Murphy was replaced by Dustin Garneau at catcher, and while the injury could mean that Murphy's 2015 season is over, he will be an intriguing sleeper candidate heading into 2016.
Thu Sep 24 201513:03Murphy out of lineup Thursday
Murphy is out of the lineup Thursday, the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports.
Murphy is 6-for-12 with three home runs and eight RBI over his last three games, but he is still only starting roughly 50 percent of the time. Dustin Garneau will get the start at catcher and hit eighth Thursday.

Murphy went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 13-7 loss to the Pirates.
Murphy's power has been on full display lately, hitting long balls in each of his last three starts. While being occasionally spelled by Dustin Garneau behind the plate, the 24-year-old Murphy has impressed in his first major league stint. Having left a lasting impression down the stretch, look for Murphy to win a job out of spring training next season.

Murphy hit his first career home run Saturday, going 3-for-5 with two RBI in a 10-2 drubbing of the Padres.
Murphy's showed good pop at the minor league level, hitting 20 home runs this season between Double-A and Triple-A. With primary catcher Nick Hundley on the 60-day disabled list, and 28-year-old Dustin Garneau possessing limited upside, look for Murphy to receive an uptick in playing time through the season.

Manager Walt Weiss said Murphy would split time with Dustin Garneau behind the plate for the remainder of the season, the Associated Press reports.
It's not clear how exactly Weiss plans to divvy up the playing time, but Murphy should at least see two starts per week as the Rockies look to evaluate him as a catching option for the coming season. Murphy, who hit 20 homers between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Albuquerque this season, was called up on Friday to give the Rockies a second catcher after Nick Hundley was placed on the 60-day DL with a cervical strain.
Fri Sep 11 201519:10Murphy recalled by Rockies on Friday
Murphy was recalled by the Rockies on Friday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
With Nick Hundley's season coming to an end Friday after his placement on the 60-day DL, the Rockies replenished their catcher depth by recalling Murphy. In 430 minor league at-bats this season, Murphy compiled a .256/.314/.490 slash line with 20 home runs.

Murphy received an invitation Tuesday to play on the Rockies' Arizona Fall League squad, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Murphy saw his prospect stock drop last season after missing most of the year with a shoulder injury, but he's since recouped value with a bounce-back campaign at both Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Albuquerque. Since being promoted to Triple-A in late July, Murphy is hitting .273 with seven homers and 18 RBI over 110 at-bats. With a strong showing in AFL play, he could find himself on the Rockies' 40-man roster next season and push Nick Hundley for duties as the team's starting catcher.
Fri Jul 24 201510:31Murphy promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday
Murphy was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, the Denver Post's Nick Groke reports.
Murphy went 2-for-4 in his Triple-A debut Thursday, carrying over the success he enjoyed at Double-A New Hampshire, where he slashed .249/.320/.468 across 294 plate appearances. The 24-year-old is the Rockies' top catching prospect, and could rank as the team's preferred option to back up Nick Hundley in the event Mike McKenry, who is slowed by a right knee injury, ends up requiring a stint on the DL.

Murphy, 24, is slashing .249/.320/.468 with 13 homers and 44 RBI over 294 plate appearances at Double-A Tulsa.
After missing most of last season due to injury, Murphy has bounced back respectably in 2015, providing above-average offense (127 wRC+) while playing a premium defensive position. His bat remains well ahead of his glove at this point in his development, but it doesn't sound like the Rockies are entertaining the idea of a position change at this point.

Murphy is hitting with .294 to go along with a .373 on-base percentage, eight homers, and 27 RBI over 161 plate appearances at Double-A New Britain.
After missing most of last season to tend to a shoulder injury, Murphy has looked rejuvenated during his time in 2015 with the Rockies' new Double-A affiliate. As the lofty OBP would suggest, Murphy has drawn walks at a high clip, though he's still striking out in nearly 25 percent of his plate appearances. That could portend some difficulties once he reaches the Triple-A level or majors, but Murphy's power-hitting tool and good batting eye nonetheless make him the Rockies' most intriguing catching prospect. With Nick Hundley signed through the end of the 2016 season at a modest $3 million annually, Murphy certainly isn't blocked from assuming the top catching job should his abilities eventually carry him to the big club.

Murphy clobbered two homers in a 4-for-5 day Tuesday for Double-A New Britain.
That raises his average up to .337, and he's not striking out quite as much of late.

Murphy, 24, is hitting .353/.441/.647 with three home runs, seven RBI and two steals through 15 games for Double-A New Britain.
Murphy is off to a scorching start after missing the majority of the 2014 campaign due to injury. The only downside is that he has been punched out 16 times in 15 contests thus far.

Murphy hit his first home run of the year Sunday for Double-A New Britain.
Murphy hasn't had much trouble bringing the thunder in the past; the big thing to look for this year from the Rockies top catching prospect is staying on the field after playing in just 27 games last year due to shoulder problems.
