SAN DIEGO (AP) — With the San Diego Padres still in deep rebuilding mode, the player a lot of fans are interested in seeing the most is a 19-year-old shortstop who has yet to spend a day in the big leagues.Fernando Tatis Jr., the son of the former major leaguer, earned an invitation to spring training with the big league club. So did some other top prospects, including second baseman Luis Arias and pitchers Cal Quantrill — also the son of a former big leaguer — Eric Lauer, Joey Lucchesi and Jacob Nix.Tatis is the crown jewel of the Padres' highly rated farm system. TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Yangervis Solarte from the San Diego Padres on Saturday for prospects Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff.The 30-year-old Solarte hit .255 with 18 homers and 64 RBIs in 128 games last season for the Padres. He made his big league debut with the New York Yankees in 2014.The 21-year-old Olivares hit .269 with 17 home runs, 72 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 120 Class A games with Lansing and Dunedin this year. From Venezuela, he signed with Toronto as an international free agent in 2014.Carkuff, 24, was 3-4 with eight saves and a 3.86 ERA in 34 relief appearances between Single-A Vancouver, Lansing and Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo last season. He was selected by Toronto in the 35th round of the June 2016 draft out of Austin Peay.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres sent infielder Yangervis Solarte to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday for prospects Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff, and also signed two pitchers.The 30-year-old Solarte hit .255 with 18 homers and 64 RBIs in 128 games last season for the Padres.San Diego re-signed right-handed pitcher Craig Stammen to a two-year contract, signed Japanese right-hander Kazuhisa Makita to a two-year deal, and designated infielder Jose Rondon for assignment.The 33-year-old Stammen was 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA with 74 strikeouts and just 28 walks in a career-high 60 appearances for the Padres last season. He inherited a National League-high 55 runners and allowed just 14 of them to score, including only two with the bases loaded. SS Yangervis Solarte had two of the three Padres' hits Wednesday. He now has a hit in eight of his last nine games (.387) with four RBI. His 18 home runs is a career high.

2B Yangervis Solarte doubled to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

INF Yangervis Solarte was 2-for-4 Sunday with his 18th homer of the season -- extending his career-high in that category. Solarte is 8-for-24 over a six game hitting streak and has hit safely in 14 of his last 17 starts, going 18-for-69 (.261) with four doubles, three homers and eight RBIs.

INF Yangervis Solarte committed his ninth error of the season in Friday night's loss. But Solarte, who has been dividing his starts between short, second and third over the past six weeks, has made three of those errors in the past four games with five of the nine coming in the past 15 games.

3B Yangervis Solarte went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run on the one-year anniversary of the death of his wife, Yuliette, 31, from complications due to cancer. Solarte was at Coors Field when she died. "It's tough to put into words, especially today being the 17th (of September) and home run No. 17," Solarte said, "and we were in the same place when I received the worst news of my life. It's really sad to think about, but it's something I have to continue on. This is something she could be happy about, and I have to continue on for my three daughters she left. It's also a reminder of God's strength. This is something I've been thinking about for three or four nights, a lot of time. Things weren't going the way I wanted on the field, and this moment comes together. It's a reminder to be strong and be happy."

INF Yangervis Solarte homered for the Padres' lone run. It was his career-high 16th homer of the season. But Solarte hasn't had a multi-hit game since Aug. 22. Over the last 15 games, Solarte is 8-for-51 (.157).

INF Yangervis Solarte, who went 0-for-5 on Saturday against the Marlins, started at SS. In his previous four starts, he was used at 2B, SS, 3B and 1B. Since 2016, only two other major-leaguers - Javier Baez and Jurickson Profar - started at all four infield positions in a span of four games.

3B Yangervis Solarte drove in a career-high six runs Tuesday night, becoming the first Padre to ever knock in six runs in a game in St. Louis. Solarte drilled a three-run double in the third, an RBI double in the fifth and cracked a two-run homer in the eighth to cap his big game. While he's hitting .270 for the season, Solarte is batting .317 with runners in scoring position.

2B Yangervis Solarte made his third start at shortstop Thursday in an effort to keep his hot bat in the lineup. Solarte was 7-for-17 with a home run, double and three RBIs in the four-game series in Cincinnati. He has made 68 starts at second base, four at third, and two at first.

2B Yangervis Solarte returned from the disabled list July 30 and has hit safely in five straight starts. He went 2-for-4 with a double Wednesday at Cincinnati. "He's a pure hitter," Padres manager Andy Green said. "He can hit so many different pitchers that sometimes he gets out of the strike zone. When he forces pitchers into the zone he has a ton of success."

INF Yangervis Solarte was activated from the disabled list Sunday, and he went 0-for-3 with a walk against the Pirates. Solarte had been out with a left oblique strain since June 21. At the time he went on the disabled list, Solarte was the Padres hottest hitter, going 11-for-28 (.393) with five home runs in a seven-game hitting streak. Solarte had also hit safely in 11 of 12 games. Solarte started a game at short during his two-game rehab trip to El Paso and Padres manager Andy Green said Solarte might play short as well as second and third for the remainder of the season as the team's most versatile infielder.

INF Yangerivs Solarte (oblique) has completed his rehab assignments and is expected to be activated for Sunday's game. Solarte, who was the team's second baseman, has been playing shortstop. Solarte will see time at shortstop with the Padres, although second base remains in his future as well. He has been out since June 21.

INF Yangerivs Solarte (hamstring) continues to make strides in his minor league rehab assignment. Solarte isn't that far off from returning, and when he does, the team's second baseman could see time at shortstop. That speaks to how highly the team things of rookie Carlos Asuaje as well as its lack of having an everyday shortstop. Solarte is playing shortstop in the minors.

The switch-hitting Solarte, who has been sidelined since June 21 with a strained left oblique muscle, is expected to play second Thursday night. But the plan is for him to start at shortstop Friday night. Solarte has played in three games at short as a Padre and it is far from his best position. Solarte was hitting .268 with 10 doubles, 10 homers and 40 RBIs in 70 games when he was injured.

INF Yangervis Solarte, who has been out since June 20 with a left oblique strain, will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso Thursday night. The last step for the switch-hitter was being able to hit from the right side of the plate, something he accomplished without pain during batting practice over the last two days. Solarte was hitting .268 through the season's first 70 games with 10 doubles, 10 homers and 40 RBIs.

2B-3B Yangervis Solarte was placed on the 10-day disabled list as expected Friday with a left oblique strain. Solarte suffered the injury Tuesday before the Padres' second game against the Cubs. "You never know with obliques," said Padres manager Andy Green. "It could be two to three weeks, and I've see some take six to seven weeks." Solarte had been the Padres' hottest hitter. He was riding a six-game hitting streak (11-for-28 with a double, five homers and eight RBIs) and had hit safely in 10 of his last 11 starts (17-for-46 with a double, six homers, 13 RBIs and nine runs scored).
