Although he missed two starts with a groin injury, Sabathia pitched 179 2/3 innings and was 9-13 with a 3.91 ERA. It was his lowest ERA since 2012 when he had a 3.38 mark. Sabathia will return next season as he has a $25 million option for 2017 that is guaranteed if he is not on the disabled list because of a left shoulder injury.

LHP CC Sabathia will conclude his eighth season with the Yankees when he pitches Thursday against the Red Sox. Although Sabathia is 8-12 with a 4.02 ERA, he has pitched better than the record, a sentiment manager Joe Girardi echoed Wednesday afternoon. "I think he's had a pretty good year," Girardi said. "I look at his numbers, the way he's pitched, the way he's really pitched down the stretch and how well he's pitched for us, I think he's had a pretty good year." It was his 45th career start of at least seven shutout innings and fifth scoreless outing this season.

LHP CC Sabathia pitched seven scoreless innings Saturday and did not factor in the decision in the 3-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. It was his fourth consecutive no-decision. It is the second time this season that he has not allowed a run over seven innings. The other time was May 4 against the Baltimore Orioles.

"It was a tough play," Sabathia said. "I was trying to hit him on the move. I end up short arming it and it kind of sailed on me." One at-bat later, Ramirez unloaded on a 3-1 Sabathia slider for a homer to bring Boston within a run.

Sabathia said he just couldn't seem to be consistent and was clearly frustrated about it. "I don't know. I didn't have much," he said. "Just trying to make pitches when I had to, and I was able to do that for the most part. But it was a struggle today."

LHP CC Sabathia will start on Saturday in Baltimore. He is 19-9, 3.35 in his career against Baltimore in 37 games and 11-6, 3.51 in 22 games at Baltimore.

LHP CC Sabathia allowed three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings and took a tough loss Sunday. He left with a 1-0 deficit but was charged with two more runs when RHP Adam Warren gave up a bases-loaded two-run single to RF Steve Pearce. Sabathia became the 39th player in AL history to pitch 3,000 innings.

LHP CC Sabathia is scheduled to make his 26th career start against Seattle on Tuesday night. He's gone 12-6 with a 2.70 ERA over his first 25 starts against the Mariners. The 36-year-old southpaw got off to a great start to the season but has since gone 2-6 with a 6.78 ERA over his past 11 starts.

Before this period, he was 4-2 with a 0.82 ERA in his previous seven starts. Sabathia has allowed 12 of his 14 home runs during his last 10 starts. Sabathia is 15-8 with a 3.20 ERA in 24 starts against the Blue Jays although he has dropped his last four decisions against them.
