Sat May 26 201814:34Marlins' Prado goes on DL; Riddle recalled from minors
MIAMI (AP) — Miami Marlins third baseman Martin Prado was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with a strained left hamstring, and infielder J.T. Riddle was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans. The moves Saturday came after Prado was hurt Friday night running out a grounder against Washington.Manager Don Mattingly said there's no timetable yet for the return of the 34-year-old Prado, who will undergo further tests. But he's batting only .194, and the latest injury could be career-threatening after hamstring and knee issues limited him to 37 games last year.Mattingly said it was tough to see the 13-year veteran endure another physical setback."I don't know if there's anybody who cares more than Martin, just the pride and the way he prepares and plays," Mattingly said. "Everything he does is about being as good as he can possibly be. If we had 25 Martins, we're going to win a championship."Riddle joins the Marlins' roster for the first time since left biceps tendinitis ended his rookie season last July. He batted .250 in 70 games in 2017.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball

Sat Mar 24 201815:39RHP Straily will go on disabled list for ailing Marlins
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Pitcher Dan Straily will begin the season on the disabled list, the latest setback for the depleted Miami Marlins.Straily was originally set to start the second game of the season, next weekend at home against the Cubs. But the right-hander exited Monday's minor league game early because of forearm tightness after throwing 60 pitches, and an MRI revealed inflammation."There could be nothing in there right now, no inflammation there right now, but if you wait the 10-day period, you are going to be assured that there's nothing in there," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.Once Straily begins throwing again, he will once again have to build arm strength, making it unlikely Straily will appear in a major league game before the middle of April."There would be a buildup process," Mattingly said.Injuries incurred both before the start of spring and during Grapefruit League play could force nearly half of Miami's projected starting lineup to begin the season on rehab assignments... "You can jog around just fine. Then you go sprint and your body's kind of telling you, hey, hold off a second."Straily first noticed the forearm tightness while pitching in a minor league game on Monday. He completed four innings, throwing 60 pitches, but had been scheduled to throw a few more."I was coming off from the inning and just felt a little bit of tightness," Straily said.
