Mon Mar 2 201517:22Wood will start in Cubs' Cactus League opener Thursday
Wood will start in the Cubs' Cactus League opener Thursday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Which Wood will we see in 2015? The one that shocked everyone with a 3.11 ERA in 32 starts in 2013, or the one who fell to earth in 2014? He'll be given every opportunity to win a job in the rotation, but he's also a candidate to be traded, so the Cubs could be showcasing him a little.

Wood may be traded before the beginning of camp, David Kaplan of CSN Chicago speculates.
The Phillies are reportedly interested in Wood, who could get dealt along with Welington Castillo. The Cubs may be interested in signing James Shields, which could make Wood expendable. Teams may be interested in the Travis Wood of 2013, but he fell back to earth in 2014, finishing 8-13 with a 5.03 ERA.
Fri Jan 16 201516:17Wood avoided arbitration with Cubs by agreeing to one-year
Wood avoided arbitration with the Cubs by agreeing to a one-year, $5.685 million deal, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Despite a 5.03 ERA and 1.532 WHIP, Wood could still be valued by the Cubs due to his age (27) and his status as a young pitcher for an organization in need of them. He could also have value as a future trade chip.

Wood struggled in his final start of the season, allowing seven runssix earnedin five innings.
Wood managed to strike out eight in the outing, but allowed eight hits as well. The lefty ends his disappointing season with a 8-13 record, 5.03 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.
Sat Sep 20 201411:33Wood will make final start of season Monday against Cardinals
Wood will make his final start of the season Monday against the Cardinals, the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles reports.
The Cubs want to give their young pitchers some extra opportunities in the final week, so owners will only get one more start out of Wood this season. The Chicago pitcher to target on waiver wires heading into the final week is Kyle Hendricks, who will start Tuesday against St. Louis and will also pitch the season finale Sept. 28 in Milwaukee.

Wood was strong in a no-decision Monday, throwing six shutout innings against the Reds.
It was a much-needed bounce-back outing for Wood, who allowed seven runs in 1.2 innings his last start. Wood has been more bad than good this season, registering a 4.86 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Wood takes the hill against the Dodgers this weekend.

Wood allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk in just 1.2 inning of work in the Cubs' 14-4 loss to the Pirates on Sunday.
The seven runs tie Wood's season-high for an outing. He also allowed a season-high three home runs in the start. He's now lost three of five starts. His ERA has risen to 5.15 on the year.

Wood allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two in just 4.2 innings in the Cubs' 9-6 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
Wood had been relatively consistent before Sunday, allowed 11 runs in his last five starts. It was his shortest start since July 2. His ERA sits a 4.81 for the year. He'll be back on the mound Saturday to face the Pirates.

Wood was on point Tuesday against the Reds, giving up no runs on two hits and a walk while striking out five batters in the Cubs' 3-0 victory.
With the dazzling showing, Wood was able to pick up his first victory in more than two months, snapping a six-game losing streak. By traditional metrics (8-11, 4.72 ERA, 1.48 WHIP), Wood hasn't been particularly great this season, but his 4.12 FIP and .314 BABIP suggests he could be in line for something of a bounce-back in 2015.

Wood gave up four runs and eight hits over six innings in Thursday's regularly scheduled game against San Francisco. He issued just one walk and struck out six.
Wood has been very inconsistent this season, and hasn't pitched more than six innings in any of his last 10 starts. He's actually increased his strikeout rate from the previous three seasons, although his current 3.95 BB/9IP would be a career worst. He'll square off against the Reds on the road in his next start.

Wood gave up three runs on four hits and four walks over 5.1 innings in Friday's loss to the Mets. He struck out five and allowed a homer to Eric Campbell that was the big blow in the game.
Two walks to David Wright and Lucas Duda came back to haunt Wood before Campbell's homer, with all three coming in to score. "Walks killed me," Wood said. "If you take out half the walks, it'd be a pretty solid game. That was the game. I had the two walks to start the fourth and the guy hit the ball out of the park. I gave up four hits, and one of them happened to be a long ball with two walks, and that was the game."

Wood worked six strong frames in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Rays, giving up just one unearned run, four hits and three walks while striking out five.
After mostly struggling from late-June through mid-July, Wood has picked things up a tick or two in recent weeks. Over his last four starts, the 27-year-old southpaw has managed a respectable 3.52 ERA and 9.0 K/9 across 23 innings. Wood is slated to be back atop the mound Friday versus the Mets.

Wood allowed three runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out two over six innings, but ended up taking the no-decision against the Rockies on Tuesday.
Brandon Barnes hit a two-run double in the second inning and Josh Rutledge got to Wood for an RBI single in the fifth, but that was the only damage against Wood on the night. The quality start was Wood's first since June 26, though he still hasn't picked up a win since June 15. The left-hander is 7-9 with a 5.08 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 110:58 K:BB over 133 innings this year. He'll go up against the Rays next week in his home park.

Wood allowed four runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out a career-high 11 over six innings, in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.
Not only did he set a career high in strikeouts, but he also set a career high in pitches with 119 (76 strikes). Unfortunately, none of it translated into a win for Wood. He's now gone eight starts without a victory, his last coming back on June 15 against the Pirates. Wood has been unable to build off of his successful 2013 season in which he posted a 3.11 ERA in 200 innings. Through 127 innings this season, he has a 5.10 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. He'll take on the Rockies yet again, this time in Coors Field, next week.
Wed Jul 30 201423:43Wood K's 11 but allows 4 ER in a no-decision
Travis Wood went home with a no-decision after allowing four runs in six frames, as the Cubs lost in 10 innings to the Rockies on Wednesday.
Wood struck out a season-high 11 -- by far eclipsing his previous high of seven dating back to the start of May -- but was otherwise quite hittable. The lefty yielded eight hits and a pair of walks in the effort. Wood's mediocre season continues, as he now has a 5.10 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP, and a 108/55 K/BB ratio. He'll face the Rockies again next week, but in the pitcher-unfriendly confines of Coors Field.

Fri Jul 25 201419:57Wood serves up two homers in no-decision
Travis Wood struggled in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Friday afternoon, surrendering five runs (two earned) on seven hits over his five innings of work.
The veteran southpaw punched out five while walking one. He struggled to keep the ball in the yard on a windy day at Wrigley Field, serving up a pair of solo home runs to Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday. On the plus side, he managed to help his own cause by blasting his third long ball of the season. He'll carry a disappointing 5.06 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into Wednesday's matchup against the Rockies

Travis Wood gave up seven runs -- five earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Arizona got to him for eight hits and four walks and will be looking for the sweep on Sunday afternoon. Wood has not been good in July and probably belongs on fantasy benches (or waiver wires) for a while. He will carry a 5.12 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into his next scheduled start at home versus the Cardinals.
