Fri Apr 10 201520:44Griffin (elbow) will throw to hitters Saturday morning
Griffin (elbow) will throw to hitters Saturday morning, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Griffin began incorporating all of his pitches into his bullpen sessions a little over two weeks ago, and is now set to face live hitters for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery. It marks an important step in his recovery, but keep in mind that Griffin is still less than a year removed from the procedure and the team will likely want him to throw several live sessions before even thinking about a rehab assignment.

Griffin (elbow) will throw all of his pitches in a side session Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.
This marks the first time he will use his full repertoire in his return from Tommy John surgery, which is a pretty big step. The A's have a lot of starting pitching depth, and will be able to allow Griffin to move at his own pace in his recovery. In leagues where there are several DL spots, Griffin is a worthwhile stash to start the season.

Griffin (elbow) threw a 30-pitch side session Tuesday consisting of fastballs and changeups, and also tossed 10 breaking balls with the catcher moved up, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Slowly but surely, Griffin is building strength in his surgically-repaired right arm. Griffin was still restricted to throwing his breaking balls on flat ground early in March, so Tuesday's session marks another step in his progression. He is still less than 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery.
Tue Mar 3 201515:24Griffin (elbow) threw 35 pitches off of mound Tuesday
Griffin (elbow) threw 35 pitches off of a mound Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Griffin, who remains on track to return in June, threw fastballs and changeups off the mound, while tossing curveballs on flat ground. He continues to progress in his recovery without issue.
Fri Feb 27 201515:39Griffin (elbow) placed on 60-Day DL on Friday
Griffin (elbow) was placed on the 60-Day DL on Friday, reports Jane Lee of MLB.com.
Griffin is not expected back until June, so this appears to be more of a roster space move by the A's rather than any kind of setback. Griffin has been throwing side sessions in spring training and is making good progress by all accounts.
Thu Feb 19 201521:43Griffin has thrown three side sessions already this spring
Griffin has thrown three side sessions already this spring, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Griffin has thrown only fastballs in his three sessions, but plans to incorporate change-ups next week. Griffin is not expected to be with the A's until June, but does appear to be progressing well so far in his return from Tommy John surgery.
Mon Feb 9 201513:59A.J. Griffin: (Elbow) Will Throw Off Mound Tuesday
Griffin will throw off a mound Tuesday, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports.
He is anticipated to return to the A's in June, and could replace one of Oakland's younger arms at that point. There are players who will miss time that are worth stashing -- like Jose Fernandez -- but Griffin is not quite of that caliber, unless your league has DL spots.
Sun Feb 8 201518:46Griffin (elbow) currently projected to return to A's in June
Griffin (elbow) is currently projected to return to the A's in June, reports Jane Lee of MLB.com.
Griffin is pleased with his progression and will begin throwing bullpen sessions this week, but is clearly a decent ways away from contributing to the A's, even assuming no setbacks. It remains to be seen what Griffin will slide into when he does return, but the A's will likely monitor his workload very closely no matter the role.
Mon Jan 12 201511:29Griffin (elbow) not expected to be ready for Opening Day
Griffin (elbow) is not expected to be ready for Opening Day, FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports.
Griffin will be about 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery when the 2015 regular season kicks off, but recovery from the procedure typically takes at least a year, so it should not come as a big surprise if he is not ready for the beginning of the season. Griffin will likely join the Oakland's rotation at some point in 2015, but it remains to be seen how much longer he will need to recover from his elbow injury.

Athletics transferred RHP A.J. Griffin to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears room on the 40-man roster for the addition of Nick Buss. Griffin underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery last week.

Tue Apr 29 201418:35A's not sure what surgery Griffin will have
Athletics manager Bob Melvin confirmed Tuesday that A.J. Griffin will undergo season-ending elbow surgery Wednesday, though he's not of the exact procedure yet.
It's likely just semantics at this point, as the A's have already conceded that the righty is expected to miss a year, so Tommy John surgery is almost surely what will take place. They'll know for sure only after Griffin's elbow is opened up Wednesday.

Tue Apr 29 201417:50A.J. Griffin to undergo Tommy John surgery
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman has confirmed that A.J. Griffin needs Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
Another promising young starting pitcher goes down. Griffin has been on the shelf since the middle of spring training with elbow discomfort and will now remain sidelined through the first couple months of the 2015 season. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a strong 3.60 ERA and 1.126 WHIP in 282 1/3 major league innings.

Fri Apr 25 201418:46A.J. Griffin likely heading for Tommy John
Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports that A.J. Griffin is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery next week.
It doesn't come as a complete surprise, but is still a tough break for the A's who already lost Jarrod Parker to the surgery this season. Jesse Chavez and Tommy Milone will now be expected to hold down the last two spots in the team's rotation for the forseeable future.

Thu Apr 24 201418:41A.J. Griffin (elbow) to get second opinion
A.J. Griffin will receive a second opinion on his ailing right elbow from Dr. Thomas L. Mehlhoff on Tuesday.
Griffin resumed throwing recently but is still feeling pain. He was diagnosed last month with a flexor tendinitis, but the injury is sometimes a precursor to Tommy John surgery. Obviously, it's an ominous sign, but more will be known next week after Griffin is examined.

Mon Apr 7 201408:56Griffin (elbow) ready for strengthening work
A.J. Griffin (elbow) is expected to begin doing strengthening exercises this week in Oakland.
Griffin was placed on the disabled list at the end of spring training with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow and is doubtful to return before the end of April. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 235 strikeouts through his first 282 1/3 major league frames. He will be a valuable fantasy asset when he returns.

Sun Mar 30 201409:06A.J. Griffin (elbow) placed on disabled list
Athletics placed RHP A.J. Griffin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a right flexor muscle strain.
Griffin thankfully doesn't have any issues with his ligament, but he still needs some time on the shelf. The right-hander is expected to miss at least the first month of the season.

Sat Mar 15 201412:28A.J. Griffin shut down for next three weeks
A.J. Griffin has been shut down for the next three weeks due to flexor tendinitis in his elbow.
Griffin was already expected to begin the season on the disabled list, but now that's an absolute certainty. The 26-year-old shouldn't be counted on to rejoin the rotation until late-April at the earliest. Take extreme caution if considering him in fantasy drafts.

Thu Mar 13 201423:41A.J. Griffin roughed up by Rockies
A.J. Griffin was touched up for five runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 frames versus the Rockies Thursday.
Both Wilin Rosario and Tim Wheeler took Griffin deep. The A's right-hander has been roughed up this spring, allowing 10 runs on 19 hits over 8 2/3 innings. It's not overly concerning at this point, but it would be nice to see Griffin take some strides his next time out.
