Mon Apr 22 201323:04A.J. Griffin gets lit up by Red Sox
A.J. Griffin was torched for nine runs -- seven earned -- in four-plus innings by the Red Sox on Monday.
Griffin allowed one run through three, but Will Middlebrooks hit a three-run homer in the fourth and Mike Napoli followed with a grand slam with no outs (thanks to an Andy Parrino error) in the fifth. Griffin entered the night with a 2.25 ERA, and he still projects as a perfectly useful AL-only pitcher going forward. He's more of a spot starter in mixed leagues.

A.J. Griffin yielded two runs and four hits in six innings Tuesday against the Astros.

Fri Apr 12 201301:19Griffin spins gem in win over Angels
A.J. Griffin spun eight shutout frames Thursday in an 8-1 win over the Angels.
The eight innings tied a career high. Griffin was in control all night long, limiting the Angels to just five hits and one walk while recording two strikeouts. The only run scored on an RBI double by Howie Kendrick in the fourth inning. Griffin owns a 1.93 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over his first two starts and is gaining momentum in mixed leagues. He has a favorable start coming up against the Astros next week.

Thu Apr 4 201318:29A.J. Griffin holds down M's
A.J. Griffin held the Mariners to two runs over six innings in Thursday's 8-2 victory.
He permitted permitted seven hits, walked two and struck out three. The red-hot Michael Morse got to Griffin with a solo blast in the sixth inning, but it was the only extra-base hit the right-hander allowed all day. It's a good start for Griffin, and he likely has to continue pitching well in order to keep Dan Straily at Triple-A. Griffin faces the Angels next week.

Sat Mar 30 201301:07A.J. Griffin fans six in loss to Giants
A.J. Griffin looked sharp in his final test of the spring on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits over his five frames against the Giants.
Griffin fanned six on the evening while issuing just one walk. He finishes the spring with a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 21/4 K/BB ratio over 20 innings. While he's currently has his spot secured in the A's rotation to start the season, if Daniel Straily pitches well early on, he could be a consideration to be replaced once Bartolo Colon is ready to return from his suspension.

A.J. Griffin gave up one run over three innings in his start Sunday against the Rockies.
Griffin's only mistake was a home run to Nolan Arenado. He allowed just three hits and showed his typically good command. While Griffin's spot in Opening Day rotation is locked up, he could have to hold off Dan Straily when Bartolo Colon returns from suspension.

A.J. Griffin allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's Cactus League loss to the Diamondbacks.

Thu Oct 11 201201:34A.J. Griffin only goes five
A.J. Griffin allowed two runs over five innings in Wednesday's 4-3 comeback win in Game 4 of the ALDS.
Griffin wasn't particularly sharp, giving up seven hits while striking out just one, but he was able to limit the damage for the most part. The rookie right-hander has struggled overall in his past five starts dating back to the regular season, so he's not a given to get another shot in the ALCS if the A's advance. Jarrod Parker will take the ball in Game 5 Thursday.

Wed Oct 3 201217:20A.J. Griffin struggles versus Rangers
A.J. Griffin was charged with five runs -- four earned -- in 2 2/3 innings in his start Wednesday against the Rangers.
The A's bailed him out afterwards, so his record remains 7-1. That the A's failed to make grabs on two popups in the third contributed to his undoing today. They did get an out on the first one anyway, but it likely would have been a double play if it was caught.

Sat Sep 29 201201:37A.J. Griffin solid in win over Mariners
A.J. Griffin held the Mariners to one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of Friday's 8-2 win.
Griffin struck out four and walked two in improving to 7-1. Now the owner of a 2.71 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 64/17 K/BB ratio through his first 79 2/3 major-league innings, Griffin is currently in line to take the ball in what could be Oakland's all-important regular season finale against the Rangers at home on Wednesday.

Sun Sep 23 201217:44A.J. Griffin struggles in no-decision
A.J. Griffin pitched poorly but was bailed out by his teammates Sunday, as he gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks over 6 1/3 frames in a 5-4 win over the Yankees.
The A's relievers allowed four baserunners and no runs over the final 4 2/3 innings, and the offense did enough to let Griffin off the hook. After a terrific start to his career, Griffin has now put up two straight clunkers. He'll have a good shot to bounce back against the Mariners next weekend, though.

Thu Sep 13 201201:02A.J. Griffin shuts down Angels in victory
A.J. Griffin blanked the Angels for eight innings Wednesday to move to 6-0 for the A's.
Griffin has been awesome since returning from a sore shoulder, allowing a total of two runs while winning three starts. He has a 1.94 ERA in 11 starts overall, which is pretty good for a guy who lasted into the 13th round of the 2010 draft.

A.J. Griffin held the Mariners to one run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings Friday, improving to 5-0 in Oakland's 6-1 victory.
Griffin struck out seven and walked only one. Another night, another impressive start from Griffin, who has yet to allow more than three runs in any of his 10 outings this season. Now the owner of a 2.21 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 47/11 K/BB ratio through 57 innings, Griffin will get the Angels in Anaheim next Wednesday.

Sun Sep 2 201201:59A.J. Griffin goes seven strong in win
A.J. Griffin limited the Red Sox to one run and three hits in seven innings to win Saturday.
Obviously, these aren't the Red Sox of old, not with Scott Podsednik batting third. Still, it was an impressive return from the DL for Griffin. He struck out five and walked none in improving to 4-0. He should be worth playing in AL-only leagues the rest of the way.

A.J. Griffin (shoulder) will make another rehab start on Monday night at Triple-A Sacramento.
Griffin surrendered three earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings in his rehab debut last Wednesday. The A's will probably want to see him do a little better this time around. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since August 5 because of a strained right shoulder.

Fri Aug 24 201209:52A.J. Griffin may make just one rehab start
A.J. Griffin (shoulder) may make only one rehab start.
Griffin was shaky in his Wednesdy outing for Triple-A Sacramento, but the A's need someone to take the suspended Bartolo Colon's next turn through the rotation after demoting Tyson Ross on Thursday to get him ready for a September addition to the bullpen. Griffin was excellent in eight starts earlier this season, posting a 2.42 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 35/10 K/BB ratio across 44 2/3 innings. He'll be worth a flier if/when he rejoins the rotation.

Mon Aug 20 201219:24A.J. Griffin to begin rehab assignment
A.J. Griffin (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento Wednesday.
He'll be on a pitch count of 65. Griffin will make two starts for Sacramento before the A's decide whether to add him back to their rotation. It's not a given after Brett Anderson's return this week.
