Tue Sep 17 201322:59Brandon Maurer allows two runs in no-decision
Brandon Maurer allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Maurer has had a rough go of it lately, but he had a better outing Tuesday. The right-hander struck out six over his five innings but gave up home runs to Miguel Cabrera and Don Kelly. The Mariners' rotation is cloudy with the questions surrounding Felix Hernandez' availability, so it's hard to say whether this start will be Maurer's last. Either way, he's an afterthought for fantasy purposes.

Thu Sep 12 201301:25Maurer blasted for 5 runs, lasts only 3 inn.
Brandon Maurer was blasted for five runs on seven hits over just three innings Wednesday against the Astros.
Maurer took Taijuan Walker's spot in Seattle's six-man rotation, but one wonders if the Mariners have seen enough of him as a starter in 2013. After tonight's dud against the worst team in baseball, he's 4-8 with a 7.18 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 72 2/3 innings.

Fri Sep 6 201320:06Brandon Maurer to return to M's rotation
Brandon Maurer will return to the Mariners rotation next week after Taijuan Walker is shut down for the season.
That means that the M's will continue to utilize a six-man rotation for the remainder of the season. The 23-year-old Maurer has appeared in 18 games (10 starts) this season, posting a troublesome 6.85 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 50/23 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings. He should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Wed May 29 201301:13Brandon Maurer roughed up by Padres
Brandon Maurer dropped to 2-7 after allowing six runs -- five earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Padres.
Combine this and Aaron Harang's effort yesterday and there's no longer any doubt who will be dropped from the Mariners rotation if a change comes. Maurer still has a future in the bigs, but he belongs in the minors right now.

Wed May 22 201322:00Maurer tagged for 7 runs in loss vs. Angels
Brandon Maurer allowed seven runs in three innings as the Mariners lost to the Angels on Wednesday.
After two rough outings to start the season, Maurer had been better of late. But he struggled from the outset Wednesday, giving up five runs in the first inning and a run in each of the next two. His next scheduled start is Tuesday against the Padres.

Fri May 17 201322:48Maurer turns in quality start in no-decision
Brandon Maurer turned in a quality start in a no-decision against the Indians on Friday, allowing three runs on five hits over his six frames.
Maurer matched his career-high with six strikeouts in the game, while walking four. Despite the decent start, he owns a putrid 5.75 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 28/14 K/BB ratio on the season, and could be at risk of losing his spot in the M's rotation. He'll take on the Angels in Anaheim on Wednesday, but should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Wed May 1 201302:02Brandon Maurer lasts four innings in loss
Brandon Maurer gave up four runs in four innings Tuesday in a loss to the Orioles.
All four runs came in the first, so take some encouragement from the fact that he was able to bounce back afterwards. Still, Maurer's ERA is back up to 6.07 now. If he struggles again next time out, perhaps he'll be replaced by Jeremy Bonderman in the rotation.

Fri Apr 26 201301:06Maurer impressive in win over Angels
Brandon Maurer struck out six over 6 1/3 shutout frames in a 6-0 win over the Angels on Thursday.
It was the best start of his brief major league career. Maurer scattered seven hits (all singles), walked one and hit a batter, so the Angels had their fair share of chances, but the rookie right-hander was able to induce a pair of key inning-ending double plays. After struggling through his first two starts, Maurer has a 1.89 ERA over his last three outings. He'll try to keep it going next week against the Orioles at home.

Sat Apr 20 201322:45Maurer allows two runs in loss to Rangers
Brandon Maurer allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings, but the Mariners lost to the Rangers on Saturday.
It was a tough fate for the young right-hander, as he was good enough to get the win Saturday. A just-enough home run by A.J. Pierzynski and a homer by David Murphy that ended Maurer's night were the only damage done by the Rangers on the evening. His next start will come Thursday against the Angels.

Sun Apr 14 201319:24Brandon Maurer beats Rangers for first win
Brandon Maurer allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in Sunday's win over the Rangers.
After being pulled in his last outing against the Astros, Maurer bounced back to earn his first win of the season. He gave up just one walk and finished with five strikeouts on the night. His rotation spot is still on thin ice, but the Mariners will continue to stick with him for now.

Wed Apr 10 201302:06Brandon Maurer gets pulled in first
Brandon Maurer was pulled after allowing six earned runs in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday in his start against the Astros.
Yeah, against the Astros. This after Maurer gave up six runs in six innings and lost to the A's his first time out. The Mariners figure to give him one more chance, but they could move on to Jeremy Bonderman or Danny Hultzen if he doesn't take a big step forward. Unfortunately, Erasmo Ramirez (elbow) isn't ready just yet.

Thu Apr 4 201318:22Brandon Maurer struggles in debut
Brandon Maurer struggled in his major league debut Thursday, allowing six runs over six frames in a loss to the Athletics.
Maurer gave up eight hits -- including a pair of home runs -- while walking no one and striking out just one. He was economical in his outing, needing just 74 pitches to cover the six innings, but obviously he didn't get the results he wanted. He'll have a good shot to bounce back next week against the Astros.

Wed Mar 27 201315:09Maurer wins fourth spot in M's rotation
Brandon Maurer has won the fourth spot in the Mariners' rotation.
Maurer entered camp as a long shot for the job, but he earned the spot with an excellent 0.90 ERA and 22/6 K/BB ratio over 20 innings in Cactus League play. The 22-year-old posted a 3.20 ERA and 117/48 K/BB ratio over 137 2/3 innings in Double-A Jackson last season and makes for an excellent under the radar option in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Mon Mar 25 201318:39Brandon Maurer continues big spring
Brandon Maurer's impressive spring continued Monday, as he tossed five scoreless innings while striking out seven Reds hitters.
He gave up six hits and walked one. Maurer entered spring training seemingly as a longshot for the Mariners' rotation, but he's done his best to earn a spot with a microscopic 0.90 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 20 spring innings. The 22-year-old has had plenty of injury issues in the minors, but he has some ability and would be worth a shot in AL-only formats if he's named to the Seattle rotation.
