Thu Aug 5 202114:30Jon Gray Takes Seventh Loss Of The Season
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Wednesday when he allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts in a 3-2 loss to the Cubs. The Rockies' offense spotted Gray a pair of runs in the opening frame and he carried that lead all the way until the fifth inning. He was in line for the win until he loaded the bases and served up a bases-clearing double to Patrick Wisdom. Neither team would score after that so Gray was saddled with the loss. The 29-year-old hurler now owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 101:44 K/BB ratio over 110 1/3 innings (20 starts). He's got a tough matchup on the road against the Astros in his next turn.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Fri Jul 30 202112:22Rockies Will Not Trade Away Jon Gray
Teams are being told that the Colorado Rockies will not trade away starting pitcher Jon Gray prior to the trade deadline, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Gray had been considered one of the top trade targets heading into the deadline, but reports emerged late this week that the Rockies might opt to keep Gray and offer him a qualifying offer at the end of the season. Barring something unexpected, managers should expect Gray to remain in Colorado through the rest of the season.

Wed Jul 28 202114:49Jon Gray Garnering Interest From Multiple Clubs
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray is drawing interest from the Giants, Padres, and Phillies according to Jon Morosi. He added that the Rockies are just listening so far and a trade likely won't go down until Max Scherzer is moved, which would help set Gray's market value. The 29-year-old Gray has been solid this year, posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 91:40 K/BB ratio over 98 innings (18 starts). He would help bolster the rotation on a number of contending clubs and will become a free agent following this season.

Fri Jul 16 202119:51Padres place rookie left-hander Ryan Weathers on IL
WASHINGTON (AP) — The San Diego Padres placed rookie left-hander Ryan Weathers on the 10-day injured list with right ankle inflammation. The move is retroactive to July 13. The Padres, who opened a three-game series in Washington against the Nationals on Friday, did not immediately make a corresponding move. Weathers was injured Sunday against the Colorado Rockies when he fielded Jon Gray’s sacrifice bunt, ran to tag him and landed awkwardly on his right leg. He fell to the ground in pain. After a few moments on the ground, he had to be helped from the field. The team said Weathers suffered bruising in the back of the ankle around the Achilles tendon. He had been wearing a walking boot, but has since thrown without it. Prior to the Friday’s game, manager Jayce Tingler said right-hander Yu Darvish (left hip inflammation) is progressing and the plan is for Darvish to start Monday at Atlanta. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
