Fri Apr 19 201318:48Gutierrez could be available to pinch hit
Franklin Gutierrez (groin) remains out of the Mariners lineup on Friday, but could be available as a pinch-hitter.
The oft-injured outfielder has been dealing with a variety of ailments in recent days, including groin tightness and a possible hip issue. He's off to a very solid start at the plate, hitting .255/.286/.574 with four homers and 10 RBI through his first 14 games, but he just can't stay on the field enough to serve as a mainstay in fantasy lineups.

Fri Apr 12 201302:05Gutierrez launches fourth homer in loss
Franklin Gutierrez launched his fourth home run of the season Thursday night against the Rangers.
Gutierrez now has as many home runs in 11 games this season as he had in 163 plate appearances last season. His injury history is well documented, but he could resurface as a useful player in deeper mixed leagues if he can finally stay on the field.

Tue Apr 2 201318:11Franklin Gutierrez sitting out Tuesday
Franklin Gutierrez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics.
Mariners manager Eric Wedge will go with Michael Saunders in center field and Raul Ibanez in left against A's right-hander Jarrod Parker. Gutirrez drove in the only two runs during Monday's game and should play most days. That is, until an inevitable trip to the disabled list occurs.

Tue Apr 2 201300:58Franklin Gutierrez drives in a pair
Franklin Gutierrez drove in the only runs with a two-RBI single in the Mariners' win over the Athletics Monday.
Gutierrez's single to center field in the fifth plated Dustin Ackley and Brendan Ryan. It was one of just eight base hits on the night between the two teams combined, and only two of the hits went for extra bases. Gutierrez has been plagued by injuries the last two seasons, but he had a big spring and is a worthy final outfielder in mixed leagues while he's healthy.

Fri Mar 29 201313:39Franklin Gutierrez still has leg tightness
Franklin Gutierrez is still dealing with some tightness in his legs.
The Mariners haven't provided more specifics on the ailment, but it's bothered Gutierrez off and on all spring. The outfielder sat out Thursday's game after he tightened up again, and although he's expected to be fine, it's possible he'll require extra days off early on in the season. Gutierrez has crushed the ball to the tune of a .275/.370/.725 batting line with five homers and 14 RBI this spring, but he's a poor bet to stay healthy in 2013.

Tue Mar 26 201319:59Franklin Gutierrez goes deep again
Franklin Gutierrez doubled in a pair of runs and ripped a solo homer Tuesday against the Royals.
He also drew a walk, reaching base in three of five plate appearances. Injuries have sabotaged Gutierrez the last two seasons, but he's been mostly healthy this spring and has batted .297 with five homers and 14 RBI. He offers a decent power/speed combo in fantasy if he can manage to stay healthy.

Sat Mar 2 201318:56Gutierrez hits third Cactus League home run
Franklin Gutierrez hit his third homer of the spring in the Mariners 9-5 win over the Dodgers Saturday.
Gutierrez now has seven RBI in 11 at-bats to start the spring, and his three homers have him near the top of the league in that department. It's still early, but Gutierrez is showing what he's capable of when healthy. Unfortunately, he has played just 132 games the past two seasons and turned 30 years old on February 21. We'll need to see more consistency going forward before he regains our trust.

Thu Feb 28 201317:39Gutierrez hits second home run of spring
Franklin Gutierrez clubbed a solo homer Thursday in a 4-3 win over the Giants.
Gutierrez has two homers over his first three games this spring. That's only three fewer than he has over the past two seasons (132 games) combined. There's still some upside in AL-only leagues if Gutierrez somehow manages to stay healthy, but we're not counting on that.

Tue Oct 2 201219:44Franklin Gutierrez shut down
Franklin Gutierrez (groin) will not return this season.
Gutierrez strained his left groin Sunday, and there's no reason for the Mariners to rush him back, especially given his injury history. He'll end the year batting only .260/.309/.420 over just 40 contests in another injury-shortened season.
