Gutierrez is dealing with a sore neck after slamming into the outfield fence while making a catch on Thursday, but he was mostly held out of the lineup Friday for precautionary reasons. "I feel good," said Gutierrez. "It's just a day off today. I don't have any headaches or anything. Just a little stiff in my neck, but nothing too bad. I think I'll be back tomorrow." Guti has been limited to just 130 games over the past two seasons, so if there's anyone who could use a little luck on the injury-front, it's him.

Good news. Gutierrez bumped his wrist and experienced some dizziness after slamming into the outfield wall Thursday while making a catch, so the Mariners didn't want to take any chances after his concussion earlier this year. He should be back at some point this weekend.

Franklin Gutierrez left Thursday's game against the Angels in the sixth inning with an apparent injury.
Guti hurt himself when he crashed into the fence in right-center field to rob Mike Trout of extra bases in the fifth inning. He stayed in the game at first, but was replaced by Michael Saunders in the bottom of the sixth.

Gutierrez took batting practice on Tuesday for the first time since suffering a concussion on June 29. He came through it OK, but the M's want to see how he feels over the next couple days before making a decision on his next step. "What we want to do is assess where he's at Thursday," manager Eric Wedge said. "I don't want to get ahead of myself."

Wedge said Gutierrez is "still a bit off." It's too bad for a guy that had a terrible time with injuries the last couple years. Hopefully he'll be ready shortly after the All-Star break.

Franklin Gutierrez has been diagnosed with a mild concussion after he was hit in the side of the face by an errant pickoff throw at first base Thursday.
He seems likely to be placed on the 7-day disabled list. It's yet another injury for Gutierrez, who seems snake bitten the last couple years. He missed the first two months of the season while recovering from a torn pectoral muscle and a heel issue.
