The Braves will wait at least three more days before making a decision on whether to play Avilan, who hurt the hamstring on Tuesday, on the disabled list. For what it's worth, Avilan says he feels "so much better" than he did when he was initially injured.

Fri Mar 22 201300:12Luis Avilan gives up three runs to Nats
Luis Avilan was charged with three runs in his inning Thursday versus the Nationals.
Avilan should make the Braves if they carry their seven best relievers, but they choose to keep out-of-options righty Anthony Varvaro and send down either Avilan or Cody Gearrin. If they go that route, Avilan is in serious danger, given that he's currently sporting a 5.79 ERA and Gearrin is at 2.00.

Mon Mar 4 201316:44Luis Avilan up to 4 1/3 scoreless innings
Luis Avilan struck out two in a perfect inning of relief Monday versus the Mets.
He's allowed two hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings this spring. We would have liked to have seen Avilan given a crack at a rotation spot after Randall Delgado was traded, but the Braves have opted to leave him in the pen. Even though he'll hardly be a candidate for saves, he could have a little value in NL-only leagues anyway.

Avilan, 22, posted a 4.57 ERA over 13 starts and 23 relief appearances with Double-A Mississippi this season, averaging 6.6 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9. The southpaw isn't as well known as J.J. Hoover and Jaye Chapman, but the Braves have ensured that he will not be selected in December's Rule 5 Draft.
