Thu Nov 25 202110:52Domantas Sabonis Tallies His 14th Double-Double
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis came away with his 14th double-double of the season Wednesday night from an overtime loss to the Lakers, scoring 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. He also posted six assists, one steal and one turnover in 35 minutes on the floor. Sabonis is tied for second in the league for double-doubles, sitting just behind Nikola Jokic (15). He faces two solid rebounding teams next in Toronto and Milwaukee, which could make it tough for him to continue his current three-game double-double streak.

Sat Nov 20 202121:21Domantas Sabonis Does A Lot In Limited Minutes
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis logged only 22 minutes in Saturday's blowout win over New Orleans but still stuffed the stat sheet. He led all scorers with 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, delivered six assists and finished things off with two steals. Sabonis shot 6-for-11 from the field with a 2-for-3 effort from deep and nailed six of his eight free throws. The big Lithuanian has been a walking double-double this month and even did the business against his fellow countryman Jonas Valanciunas, who's one of the best rebounders in the league. The Pacers now travel to Chicago to meet up with the Bulls, who are a mediocre rebounding team compared to the Pelicans. However, they will make scoring a lot tougher for Sabonis.

Sat Nov 20 202110:38Domantas Sabonis Quiet In Loss Friday
Indiana Pacers power forward Domantas Sabonis logged a season-low 22 minutes during a 121-118 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle benched the starters, as the group was an average of -16 on the night. Sabonis shot 3-for-6 from the field, including 0-for-3 from three-point range, and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line. The 25-year-old also posted six rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal. With the return of guard Caris LeVert and the addition of rookie guard Chris Duarte, the Gonzaga product has taken a step back this season across all major categories, outside of field goal percentage, and will have a difficult time replicating last year's stellar campaign. Sabonis and the starters will look to rebound at home Saturday versus the New Orleans Pelicans.

Tue Nov 16 202108:38Domantas Sabonis Logs Double-Double In Loss
Indiana Pacers power forward Domantas Sabonis logged his 10th double-double of the season during a 92-84 loss to the New York Knicks on Monday. The 25-year-old posted 21 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and one steal across 40 minutes. The Gonzaga product shot 8-for-15 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, and 2-for-5 from the free-throw line. While the return of guard Caris LeVert and stellar play from Malcolm Brogdon have hurt his playmaking stats, Sabonis has been getting better looks and is shooting a career-best 57.7% from the field.

Thu Nov 11 202111:36Domantas Sabonis Records Monster Double-Double
Indiana Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis notched his third straight double-double in Wednesday's 101-98 loss to the Nuggets. Sabonis scored 20 points with a season-high 19 rebounds, two assists, a triple, a block, and one steal in 33 minutes. The 25-year-old took advantage of a Nuggets frontcourt without Nikola Jokic (suspension)- as he shot 64.3 percent from the field en route to his first 20-point game of the month. Sabonis has double-doubled in four of five November games- and have a good chance of picking up another on Thursday against the Jazz. They've allowed the sixth-most points per game to power forwards.

Tue Nov 2 202108:50Domantas Sabonis Leads The Way Versus Spurs
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis had a productive night against the Spurs on Monday, finishing a 131-118 win with a game-high 24 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and one steal. He shot a superb 11-for-15 from the field and registered only one turnover in 36 minutes of action. That's now two big double-doubles on the bounce for Sabonis and that should lift his confidence after a pair of dull efforts. He faces a difficult matchup against the Knicks next, although Sabonis didn't exactly struggle against Julius Randle's squad last season. He averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in three outings versus the Knicks with 71 percent shooting from downtown.

Sun Oct 31 202108:58Domantas Sabonis Leads The Way For Pacers
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Saturday's slow-burner against Toronto. He picked up three steals on the defensive end and handed out two assists with two turnovers in 40 minutes. Sabonis' shooting was very disappointing as he went 8-for-18 from the field and 1-for-7 from three-point range. The two-time All-Star enjoyed a couple of big games early on but has now been a bit quiet recently. The next couple of games against San Antonio and New York aren't great spots for Sabonis to shine either. These are two slow-paced teams who have decent defensive numbers and put in a good amount of work on the glass.

Tue Oct 26 202108:38Domantas Sabonis Records Third Double-Double Of The Year
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis grabbed his third double-double of the season in Monday's loss to Milwaukee, scoring 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. He added five assists to his line with three turnovers and recorded one steal on the defensive end. Sabonis and former Buck Malcolm Brogdon ended up combining for 46 of the team's 109 points. The Pacers have three more games this week, starting with Wednesday's visit to Toronto. The Raptors are a slow-paced team that boasts good defensive numbers, so it will be hard for Sabonis to put up big numbers in that one, but the next matchup versus Brooklyn looks attractive.

Thu Oct 21 202112:52Domantas Sabonis Posts Double-Double In Season Opener
Indiana Pacers forward/center Domantas Sabonis totaled 33 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and six turnovers in Wednesday's 123-122 loss against the Hornets. Sabonis went 13-for-19 from the field and added four made three-pointers in the losing effort, as he missed the game-winning field goal attempt in the final seconds of the contest. Sabonis will continue to rack up the double-doubles and counting stats after coming off a career-year this past season, making the 25-year-old a must-start player across all fantasy formats moving forward.

Wed Jun 30 202117:19Carlisle brings optimistic vision back to Pacers bench
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Rick Carlisle chose the Indiana Pacers for many reasons. He enjoyed his first two stints in Indianapolis, already had strong relationships with team owner Herb Simon and president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard and thought the roster was a good fit for his coaching style. The Pacers appreciated something else — Carlisle's championship resume. On Wednesday, nearly a full week after Pritchard hired him, Carlisle mapped out his vision for the Pacers. “This is my kind of team. As I look at the roster and as I’ve talked to all these guys, I have an even greater feeling that it’s a group of guys I will have a blast working with," he said. “I like the way they’re talking. We’re going to find a way to play better defense and we’ve got to get back to the playoffs and win in the playoffs." For the 61-year-old Carlisle, it's essentially a homecoming. Before spending 13 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, going 555-478 and winning the NBA championship in 2010-11, Carlisle... [More]
Wed Jun 9 202117:13Pacers fire Bjorkgren as coach after just 1 season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Pritchard hired Nate Bjorkgren to take the Indiana Pacers in a new direction. They went the wrong way. A season filled with defensive struggles, missed chances and locker room drama resulted Wednesday in the firing of Bjorkgren after only one season as coach. “This was my decision," said Pritchard, the Pacers' president of basketball operations. “This was a really tough decision, one that had a lot of thought behind it. I brought in my management team, something we didn’t do lightly.” Pritchard expected the 45-year-old coach, who spent the previous two seasons as Nick Nurse's top assistant in Toronto, to make an impact with his new-age approach and his creativity. When the hiring was announced in October, Pritchard acknowledged he was betting big on a young coach. It just didn't pay off. Indiana went 34-38 before finishing the season with an embarrassing 142-115 loss to Washington in the play-in tournament — a fitting end to an abysmal season. The Wizards averaged... [More]
Wed Jun 9 202115:03Pacers fire Bjorkgren as coach after just 1 season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Pritchard hired Nate Bjorkgren to take the Indiana Pacers in a new direction. They wound up going the wrong way. After struggling defensively, missing the playoffs for the first time in six seasons and amid reports of locker room drama, the Pacers pulled the plug Wednesday when Pritchard, their president of basketball operations, fired Bjorkgren as coach after just one season. “The 2020-21 season was not what any of us hoped or anticipated it would be, and our results on the court certainly did not meet the standards for what our organization and our fans have come to expect,” Pritchard said in a statement. Indiana went 34-38, finishing the season with an embarrassing 142-115 loss to Washington in the play-in tournament. The Pacers also produced their first losing season at home in 32 years, and at times the effort didn't appear to be there, either. A rash of injuries was part of the problem. Indiana's top scorer in 2019-20, T.J. Warren, suffered a season-ending... [More]
Mon May 24 202117:01Pacers still evaluating Bjorkgren before making decision
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard intends to stand pat — for now. He'd rather not break up the big-man tandem of Myles Turner, the NBA's blocks champion, and two-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis. He hopes free agents Doug McDermott and NBA steals champ T.J. McConnell return. And he's not pulling the plug on coach Nate Bjorkgren. At least not yet. After missing the playoffs for the first time in six years and amid a tumultuous final month, Pritchard used a 45-minute, season-ending video call to explain why he's still evaluating the first-year coach's fate. “You don’t win 34 games with a decimated roster without doing some good things, too," Pritchard said. “But there are some things that we need to do better, he needs to do better. Right now, no decisions have been made. We’re not making a decision today We don’t make decisions in a vacuum, we take our time and to be honest with you, I’m being evaluated. I’m being evaluated every day." Pritchard's... [More]
Fri May 21 202115:10Pacers face major offseason questions after missing playoffs
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Now that the Indiana Pacers' long, injury-riddled season is over, the hard part begins. President of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard is embarking on yet another offseason filled with questions, the first being whether to keep coach Nate Bjorkgren. Pritchard hired the 45-year-old former Raptors assistant in October, hopeful he could forge tight bonds with players and implement a new philosophy to keep his team fresh for a long postseason run. It didn't work. Rumors of internal strife surfaced late in the season, which culminated with an embarrassing 142-115 season-ending loss at Washington. “Coach really did his best this year," guard Malcolm Brogdon said afterward. “Regardless of the reports, regardless of all the distractions and the noise, he continued to communicate with his players. He continued to work extremely hard for us and coach us the best he could, and we appreciated that. That’s what I just told him in the locker room: I appreciate him. I appreciate... [More]
Tue May 18 202117:46LeVert to miss Pacers' play-in game against Hornets
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The short-handed Indiana Pacers will be down at least one more player for Tuesday night's play-in game against the Charlotte Hornets after forward Caris LeVert entered the league's health and safety protocol. Team officials made the announcement about five hours before tipoff and a day after coach Nate Bjorkgren said LeVert was feeling better and was expected to play after missing the second half of Sunday's victory over Toronto with a migraine headache. Bjorkgren found out Tuesday morning. “When I said he felt bad, I meant he felt bad about not being able to play," Bjorkgren said. “He sounded fine on the phone." It's the latest twist for the Pacers in an injury-filled season. Starting forward T.J. Warren hasn't played since late December because of a stress fracture in his left foot. Center Myles Turner hasn't played since mid-April because of a right foot injury. LeVert had surgery earlier this year to remove a cancerous growth in his kidney after being acquired in... [More]

Fri Mar 19 202123:50Brogdon scores 27, Pacers beat Heat 137-110
MIAMI (AP) — Malcolm Brogdon scored 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting and the Indiana Pacers beat the Miami Heat 137-110 Friday night. The Pacers, who had lost eight of their last 10, were never threatened after building a double-digit lead late in the second quarter. Indiana finished with its highest scoring total ever against Miami, including the playoffs — topping the previous high of 127 in 1992. “The aggressive mode that the team was in, when they attacked they were relentless,” Indiana coach Nate Bjorkgren said. “I was pleased with the sharing but more pleased with the defensive end. I thought the communication and talking was very good on the defensive end, especially in the second half.” Domantas Sabonis had 13 points and 15 rebounds and T.J. McConnell finished with 16 points and 15 assists for the Pacers. Doug McDermott and Justin Holiday added 17 points each. The Pacers shot 20-of-36 on 3-pointers and Brogdon tied a career high with seven. “We’ve got to keep our foot on the gas this... [More]
Sun Mar 14 202101:57NBA has a record day with 5 triple-doubles
An NBA-record five players had triple-doubles Saturday, including former MVPs Giannis Antetokounmpo and Russell Westbrook in the same game. All-Stars James Harden, Julius Randle and Domantas Sabonis also had triple-doubles in victories by their teams. Antetokounmpo had 33 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists to help Milwaukee beat Washington 125-119. The two-time MVP helped the Bucks overcome 42 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds by Westbrook, who owns the NBA record with 42 triple-doubles in 2016-17. Triple-doubles have since become more common — he averaged one for three straight seasons — but there had never been so many as during Saturday's eight-game schedule. Randle started the record day with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in New York's 119-97 victory in Oklahoma City, becoming the first Knicks player with two triple-doubles in the same season since Mark Jackson in the 1988-89 season. Harden had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, his ninth triple-double since being traded to Brooklyn in January, as the Nets beat Detroit 100-95. Sabonis got the last of the night with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Indiana to a 122-111 victory in Phoenix. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
