DH/1B Hanley Ramirez is battling a right shoulder injury that will keep him working as the DH and out of the field for the foreseeable future.

He set a career high with 111 RBIs (to go with 30 homers), and his 63 RBIs after the All-Star break were tied with Nolan Arenado for the major league lead. It was his second season of hitting 30 homers and also his second of 100 RBIs.

Despite the recent cold spell, Ramirez has been hot since the All-Star break with 63 RBIs, which led the American League. Ramirez, who hit .286 and drove in 111 runs, hit 11 homers in September, tying him with Ortiz (2005) for the third-most in the month in franchise history.

Ramirez has 28 homers on the year, nine in September and 20 since the All-Star break. He also matched his career high in RBIs at 106, set in 2009 with the Florida Marlins. "He's locked in," Farrell said. "He's very dangerous right now."

1B Hanley Ramirez remained hot with three hits Saturday. He has six hits in his last eight at-bats and 44 hits in his last 32 games, batting .361 with a .419 on-base percentage and 1.140 OPS.

Then, in the next inning, the Rays failed to come together on his pop fly and it fell for an RBI single that might have been a double had Ramirez run hard out of the box. He also singled in the ninth and has five hits in the first two games of the series. The homer was his first game-tying home run since 2014 with the Dodgers.

He's been very consistent and on a good run of late."

1B Hanley Ramirez was reinstated from the bereavement list Thursday to start at first base at Detroit. Ramirez was hot prior to that, with seven hits in 15 at-bats over four games. He had a pair of three-run home runs in his last game, Friday night, and tied his career best with six RBI. He singled twice and walked in four plate appearances Thursday.

Boston Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez was activated from the bereavement list for Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers.Ramirez missed three games and returned on his earliest eligibility date. Ramirez was in the lineup and batting cleanup with designated hitter David Ortiz sitting on a scheduled rest day against Tigers lefty Matt Boyd.

IF Hanley Ramirez, on the bereavement list, will re-join the team Thursday in Detroit. Farrell said that Ramirez is going to travel there Wednesday night and be ready to go Thursday.

The team did not announce the reason behind his bereavement leave, and Ramirez was spotted getting pats on the back from his teammates in the clubhouse after the game. Ramirez, who will return from the leave in three days, was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and is batting .275/.347/.455 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs in 107 games.

1B Hanley Ramirez, who suffered a back injury in a collision with the New York Yankees' Gary Sanchez Thursday night, showed up ready for work Friday. All he did was hit three-run homers in each of the first two innings, the 20th multi-homer game of his career. "I think I don't have to be 100 percent to bat at this point in the season, because we know where we are," he said after his second multi-homer game in less than a month (he hit three July 20). "We're right there. And it's go time." He joined Jackie Bradley Jr. as the only Red Sox players since 2003 (Bill Mueller) with multiple six-RBI games. According to Elias, Ramirez joined Jimmie (1938, three) and Ted Williams (1949, two) as the only Red Sox players with more than one multi-homer, six-RBI games in a season.
