Fri Jun 25 202100:19Cubs' Zach Davies has no-hitter through 6 innings vs Dodgers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chicago Cubs right-hander Zach Davies has a no-hitter through six innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. Davies issued five walks and used 94 pitches, but still managed to keep the defending World Series champions without a hit in the 16th start of his first season with the Cubs. He bounced back sharply after yielding a career-high eight runs in his last start against Miami. Those eight runs matched the number he had allowed in his previous six starts combined, and he regained his excellent form at Dodger Stadium. Davies has never thrown a complete game in his seven-year major league career, which began with five seasons in Milwaukee before he moved to San Diego last year. Davies still had control issues in Chavez Ravine, however. He walked two batters in the first before getting Albert Pujols to ground out to end it. He walked the leadoff batter in the third and fourth, but avoided any other trouble. The fifth inning was his first 1-2-3 frame, and... [More]
Sun Jun 20 202101:48Urshela takes shard in eye, hits Yanks' go-ahead home run
NEW YORK (AP) — Gio Urshela stayed in the game despite a shard of a broken bat hitting his right eye in the second inning and hit a go-ahead homer eighth as the New York Yankees rallied from a three-run deficit in a 7-5 victory Saturday that stopped the Oakland Athletics’ seven-game winning streak. Aroldis Chapman struck out Matt Chapman on a 103.4 mph pitch to strand two runners in the ninth for his 15th save. Urshela singled in New York’s first run in the fourth and put the Yankees ahead 5-4 in the eighth when he lifted a 98.6 mph fastball from Jesús Luzardo (2-4) into the netting above Monument Park in center. DJ LeMahieu added a two-run single against Sergio Romo. Chad Green (2-4) struck out the side in the eighth. PADRES 7, REDS 5 SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rookie Kim Ha-seong hit a tiebreaking, two-run home run with two outs in the eighth — three innings after he replaced injured star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. — and San Diego beat Cincinnati. Tatis left after apparently hurting his left... [More]
Sun Jun 20 202100:58Dodgers' Buehler has no-hit bid end in 8th vs. Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — Walker Buehler's no-hit bid for the Los Angeles Dodgers ended in the eighth inning Saturday when Arizona's David Peralta lined a leadoff single into center field. The 26-year-old right-hander cruised through the Diamondbacks' order, walking two, hitting a batter and striking out a season-best 11. He was pulled with one out in the eighth after giving up a second single to Nick Ahmed. Buehler breezed through the seventh, striking out Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker before getting Stephen Vogt to ground out. But Peralta got a pitch up in the zone to start the eighth and lined a clean single into center. Buehler got a big hand from a sizable contingent of Dodgers' fans at Chase Field in Phoenix. If Buehler's no-hitter had continued, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts might have had a tough decision: Buehler was already at 101 pitches when he gave up Peralta's single, nearing his season-high of 105. There have already been six no-hitters this season, and a seventh would match 1990,... [More]
Sun Jun 20 202100:38Dodgers' Buehler through 7 no-hit innings vs D-backs
PHOENIX (AP) — Walker Buehler has pitched seven hitless innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old right-hander has walked two and hit a batter while matching a season high with 10 strikeouts. He's thrown 99 pitches, nearing his season high of 105. Buehler breezed through the seventh, striking out Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker before getting Stephen Vogt to ground out. There have already been six no-hitters this season, and a seventh would match 1990, 1991, 2012 and 2015 for the most since 1900, one shy of the record eight in 1884 — the first season overhand pitching was allowed. Buehler would join San Diego’s Joe Musgrove (April 9), Carlos Rodón of the Chicago White Sox (April 9), Baltimore’s John Means (May 5), Cincinnati's Wade Miley (May 7), Detroit’s Spencer Turnbull (May 18) and the New York Yankees’ Corey Kluber (May 19). In addition, Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner had a seven-inning hitless game in a doubleheader on April 25... [More]

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ke’Bryan Hayes hastily missed first base and was called out after hitting a first-inning homer, sending Walker Buehler on his way to seven scoreless innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 Tuesday night. Wed Jun 2 202123:13Prolific inning: Dodgers score 11 in 1st against Cardinals
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers scored their most runs in an inning in a regular-season game since moving to Los Angeles, scoring 11 times in the bottom of the first against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. The 11-run inning surpassed the previous mark of 10, which had been done at least four times, most recently in the first inning on April 25, 2008, at Colorado. It is the second time in less than a year the Dodgers have had an 11-run first. They put up the same number in Game 3 of last year's NL Championship Series against Atlanta. Cody Bellinger had a franchise-record six RBI's in the inning. After Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo homer to center to give St. Louis 1-0 lead, Bellinger's two-run single gave Los Angeles a 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, he hit a grand slam to right field off Jake Woodford. Mookie Betts also had two hits as the Dodgers sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning. They didn't record an out until pitcher Walker Buehler struck out on a foul bunt. By that... [More]
