Mon May 22 202319:10Byron Buxton Returns To Monday's Lineup
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) is back in the team's starting lineup on Monday against right-hander John Brebbia and the San Francisco Giants. Buxton is serving as the designated hitter and is batting in the three-hole. The oft-injured 29-year-old outfielder was pulled from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels early due to right-knee tightness and he missed Sunday's action, but he's back in there on Monday. It's not a serious injury, but the Twins took the cautious route with a player that has been decimated by injuries in his career. Fantasy managers can get him back into their starting lineups now. In 180 trips to the plate over 42 games so far in 2023, Buxton is hitting .235 (36-for-153) with nine doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 21 RBI, four stolen bases and 30 runs scored.

Mon May 22 202312:10Byron Buxton To Be Re-Evaluated Monday
The Minnesota Twins will re-evaluate outfielder Byron Buxton (calf) on Monday after he was held out of the starting lineup on Sunday as a precaution. "He probably could have stayed in the game and battled through it. It just was not something that was worth it to do," manager Rocco Baldelli said. Buxton was pulled from Saturday's game early with tightness in his calf, and the team isn't going to take any chances with the oft-injured 29-year-old outfielder. It sounds like a day-to-day situation as of right now, but we should have more information on Buxton's injury before Monday's game. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's in Monday's lineup against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Buxton is hitting only .235 this year, but he does have nine doubles, nine home runs and 21 RBI in 42 games played.

Sun May 21 202314:32Byron Buxton Out Sunday
Minnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton (calf) is missing from Sunday's lineup for the matchup with Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels. The star player left Saturday's game early with right leg tightness. It's unclear how serious the ailment is, so stay tuned for more updates. If Buxton's out for an extended time, fantasy managers can expect more playing time for Donovan Solano. The 35-year-old is batting .274 over 36 games this year and owns a career .278 batting average, but that's about all he'll provide in fantasy baseball.

Sun May 21 202309:10Byron Buxton Forced To Exit Saturday’s Game
Minnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton (calf) came out of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels with right leg tightness. The 29-year-old was replaced by rookie Edouard Julien, who was brought up from the minors earlier in the day. Buxton tends to have a hard time staying on the field even with the Twins doing everything in their power to preserve the speedy slugger by restricting him to DH duties. The 2022 All-Star was playing quite well over the last week of action, hitting 8-for-23 with eight runs scored, two stolen bases, one homer, and two RBI. Consider him to day-to-day for now, and hopefully fantasy managers will get an update on Buxton's health ahead of Sunday's action in Anaheim.

Sat May 13 202313:06Byron Buxton Taking A Seat Against The Cubs
Minnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton is sitting out on Saturday against the Cubs. This is just a regular day of rest for the 29-year-old. He's slashing .215/.327/.469 with eight home runs, 19 RBI, and two stolen bases over 130 at-bats on the season. Alex Kirilloff is filling in at DH and batting second in Buxton's place.

Fri May 12 202303:07Byron Buxton Can’t Snap Hitless Streak On Thursday
Minnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton went 0-for-3 in the team's victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The 29-year-old is bogged down now by an 0-for-20 slump over his past six games. The speedy outfielder also has just two stolen bases this year. That element of his game continues to be curtailed likely due to Minnesota's goal of preserving the health of the oft-injured Buxton. The former second overall pick experienced a recent power surge from April 22 to May 4, slugging six homers in 11 outings, so it may be difficult to pry Buxton away from his fantasy managers in trade talks despite this slide.

Wed Apr 26 202312:15Byron Buxton Sitting Out Wednesday
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the New York Yankees. It looks to be a regular day of rest for Buxton in a day game on Wednesday. The 29-year-old has been eased into action mostly as the team's designated hitter early in 2023, and he's batting .244 (20-for-82) with four doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and 14 runs scored in his first 22 games. He has hit two home runs and three doubles in his last six games. It's disappointing he hasn't stolen a base yet, but if he can stay healthy, Buxton is a fantasy difference-maker. Jose Miranda is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup, with Willi Castro at third base and hitting ninth against Yankees right-hander Domingo German.

Thu Apr 20 202312:00Byron Buxton Sitting Out Thursday
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox. It looks to be a normal day of rest for Buxton, who has gone 1-for-19 of late at the plate. With Buxton starting on the bench, Jose Miranda is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth, while Willi Castro gets the start at the hot corner and is batting ninth against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. Buxton's recent cold spell offensively has his current average sitting at .226 (14-for-62) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, six RBI, 12 runs scored and 25 strikeouts in 70 plate appearances in his first 17 games in 2023. Hopefully the day off will help Buxton turn things around this weekend.

Wed Apr 12 202317:28Byron Buxton Injured In Wednesday's Win
Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that outfielder Byron Buxton (head, leg) will be on the team's flight on Wednesday night to New York and that "we're going to see how he wakes up (feeling) tomorrow" after a hard collision at second base in the 3-1 win over the White Sox. "His leg got hit pretty good. He flipped. He hit his head. There was a whole lot going on there," Baldelli said. The 29-year-old went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter and was able to leave the field under his own power, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until we know more about how serious his injuries are. Buxton has mostly been serving as the DH as the Twins ease him in early on, and he entered Wednesday's ballgame hitting .308 (12-for-39) in his first 10 games.

Mon Apr 10 202314:20Byron Buxton Takes Monday's Game Off
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton was not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox. It appears to be a normal day of rest for Buxton while he's eased into action as the primary designated hitter for the team early in the year. The 29-year-old is off to a good start at the plate, too, hitting .324 (11-for-34) with a double, triple, home run, three RBI and seven runs scored in his first eight games in 2023. As long as he's healthy, he needs to be in all fantasy starting lineups when he's playing for the Twins. With Buxton resting Monday, Jose Miranda got the start as the DH and is hitting second for the Twins against White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease. Willi Castro is playing third base and batting seventh in the lineup.

Sat Apr 8 202318:33Byron Buxton Homers In Win
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton hit his first home run of the season Saturday. Buxton went 1-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Buxton also struck out twice. He is hitting .333 on the season with a homer and zero steals. Buxton is known more for his power and speed than his average, but that has been reversed early this season. As long as he's healthy, he's a fantasy asset.

Wed Mar 29 202322:30Byron Buxton To Hit Third On Opening Day
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton will serve as the designated hitter and bat third in the lineup on Opening Day on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Zack Greinke. The Twins plan to ease the oft-injured outfielder in as their DH to begin the season after he had arthroscopic knee surgery late last September. Michael A. Taylor will start in center field and bat ninth on Thursday. It remains to be seen how much the 29-year-old Buxton will run in 2023 and how often he'll receive maintenance days, but when he's in there, he needs to be in all starting fantasy lineups. Buxton is still one of the most intriguing power/speed outfielders in baseball, but his problem has been staying on the field.

Wed Mar 22 202300:27Byron Buxton To Serve Primarily As DH
Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Tuesday that he would like to have outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) in the lineup as much as possible this season, which means he could serve primarily as Minnesota's designated hitter rather than play center field. The 29-year-old made his spring debut in Tuesday's Grapefruit League 5-2 win over the Rays, going 1-for-3 in the leadoff spot with a double and a strikeout. Buxton's power/speed combination makes him an intriguing fantasy option. Still, health has been a significant issue for him, as he has managed just 636 plate appearances over the past two seasons. He should remain a higher-end fantasy option if he can stay on the field.

Tue Mar 21 202315:09Byron Buxton Making Spring Debut Tuesday
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) is making his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays and left-hander Josh Fleming. Buxton is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff for the Twins. While this will be Buxton's first Grapefruit League game, he has already picked up a good amount of at-bats in minor-league games on the back fields and is expected to be ready to roll on Opening Day as Minnesota's starting center fielder and leadoff man. It's unclear when the 29-year-old will make his center field debut, and he's also expected to see more time at DH early in the season. Buxton is an excellent power/speed option for fantasy managers, but he's also one of the biggest injury risks in baseball.

Mon Mar 20 202315:29Byron Buxton Looking Good For Opening Day
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) is looking good and is nearing 50 at-bats in live batting practice and minor-league games this spring. He went 0-for-2 with two walks in a minor-league game on Sunday, the third contest he's played in four days. Buxton has yet to play center field, but president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said the team plans to routinely use Buxton as the designated hitter early in the regular season to build him up slowly. Minnesota has eased the 29-year-old center fielder into action this spring after he had arthroscopic surgery on his knee last September. It's encouraging that he should be ready for Opening Day, but Buxton has been a headache to roster in fantasy because of all the injuries he's dealt with in his career.

Sun Feb 19 202312:18No Limitations For Byron Buxton At Camp
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) is in good shape and isn't limited at all in spring training, according to the team. Buxton had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee five months ago. It's great news that he's not facing any limitations this spring, but the Twins plan to be conservative with him in the early portion of camp. The Twins will treat infielder Jorge Polanco the same after he spent most of the offseason rehabbing from right knee tendinitis. The 29-year-old Buxton is the more attractive fantasy asset because of his power/speed combination, but injuries just don't seem to be going away for him. He played in only 92 games in 2022 and hit .224 while striking out 30 percent of the team, but he also hit a career-high 28 home runs and stole six bases. If Buxton can ever stay healthy for a full season -- his career-high in games played was 140 in 2017 -- he'd be an absolute fantasy beast.

Tue Sep 27 202218:08Byron Buxton Has Successful Surgery Tuesday
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) had successful season-ending right knee surgery on Tuesday, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The oft-injured Buxton will finish with 92 games under his belt in 2022, and he's only managed to play in over 100 games once in eight major-league seasons to this point. He finishes with a .224/.306/.526 slash line with an .833 OPS, a career-high 28 home runs, 51 RBI, 61 runs scored and six stolen bases in his 382 plate appearances for the Twins. If the 28-year-old can ever stay healthy for a full season, he could easily be in consideration for MVP honors. But his extensive injury history continues to make him a risk-reward fantasy selection.

Fri Sep 23 202218:08Byron Buxton To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip, knee) will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this Tuesday, ending his season. It was originally reported that Buxton was expected to return at some point in the season, but with the Twins falling out of contention the team has decided the best course of action is to get Buxton right for the 2023 season. Buxton, once again, has dealt with multiple injuries throughout the season. At this point, it is hard to see him playing much more than three-quarters of a season, which obviously significantly impacts his fantasy value. On top of that, he has stopped running almost completely, likely due to the injuries, and has just six steals this year. He will still contribute power-wise, but it will be hard to draft him as an integral part of fantasy rosters next season. The upside remains sky-high, but the likelihood he can maintain that over a full season is decreasing rapidly.

Sat Sep 10 202222:45Byron Buxton Will Return This Season
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip, knee) is expected to return before the end of the regular season. According to manager Rocco Baldelli, Buxton is expected to return before the end of the season, but not this weekend and probably not early next week. The 28-year-old has yet to resume baseball activities, and the team is hopeful Buxton will contribute this season. He slashed .224/.306/.526 with 28 home runs, 51 RBI, 61 runs, and six stolen bases over 382 plate appearances in 2022. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Buxton in all league formats.

Mon Aug 29 202221:49Byron Buxton Unlikely To Join Twins On Road Trip
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) is likely to continue to rehab at home instead of joining the team for their upcoming road trip. Buxton has been sidelined with a strained right hip since August 23. Buxton will not be with the Twins when they embark on their road trip but there is the possibility that Minnesota will fly him out to join them if he shows improvement. Buxton is hitting .224 with 28 homers, 61 runs, 51 RBI, and six steals across 340 at-bats in 2022.
