Kyle Seager will be absent next week when the Seattle Mariners play the major league opener in Japan. (AP) — A week after outfielder Matt Kemp was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Cincinnati Reds, he got a sideline pass for Oklahoma basketball game and had a chance meeting with another Oklahoma native: Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench."It was pretty cool," Kemp said. "It just so happened that I just got traded to Cincinnati. It was only right to sit there and chat with him for a while."Kemp learned firsthand about some of the Reds' history after he was included in their biggest offseason trade. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Right-hander Homer Bailey and the Kansas City Royals and agreed to a minor contract on Saturday that includes an invitation to big league spring training.The 32-year-old has spent his entire 12-year career in Cincinnati, making 212 starts and going 67-77 with a 4.56 ERA. Bailey was traded from the Reds to the Dodgers in a seven-player deal in December, then was released and became a free agent.Bailey has thrown a pair of no-hitters, the first against Pittsburgh in September 2012 and the other against San Francisco the following July. He won 24 games over those two seasons.He's also dealt with injuries the past few years, though, starting the season on the disabled list each year from 2015-17. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers will pay Cincinnati $7 million on Sept. 15 as part of the seven-player trade that sent Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and left-hander Alex Wood to the Reds.Pitcher Homer Bailey was sent to the Dodgers in the Dec. 21 deal along with minor leaguer infielder Jeter Downs and right-hander Josiah Gray. The Reds obtained catcher Kyle Farmer.Bailey is guaranteed $28 million: a $23 million salary this year and a $5 million buyout of a 2020 club option.
