Fri Apr 25 201423:07B.J. Upton singles with new glasses
Wearing some new glasses, B.J. Upton went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored Friday against the Reds.
Upton has struggled to get anything going since joining the Braves last offseason, so you can't blame him for trying something different. For what it's worth, he said after the game that he was seeing the ball better both offensively and defensively.

Thu Apr 17 201415:48Upton singles in loss to Phillies
B.J. Upton singled in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
The Braves managed just four hits on the day. Upton has struggled to get anything going in the early part of the season, hitting just .190/.242/.293 with three extra-base hits (one home run) and an 18/4 K/BB ratio through 62 plate appearances. If the struggles out of the No. 2 spot continue, look for Andrelton Simmons to move up in the order.

Wed Apr 9 201415:10B.J. Upton not in Wednesday's lineup
B.J. Upton is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Mets.
Upton is off to another awful start, batting just .138/.138/.172 with a league-high 13 strikeouts over 29 plate appearances. Jordan Schafer is in center field in his place, and Andrelton Simmons has moved up to the No. 2 spot.

Mon Mar 31 201417:07B.J. Upton goes hitless in loss
Batting second as expected, B.J. Upton went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Brewers on Monday.
Upton is more intriguing for fantasy purposes while batting second, but there's not really any good reason for Fredi Gonzalez to have him up that high until he shows something positive. The experiment won't last long if the Braves remain quiet offensively.

Thu Mar 27 201416:36B.J. Upton homers, walks
B.J. Upton homered and walked against the Tigers' Max Scherzer in the Braves' loss Thursday.
That's a pretty good day for the Braves' new No. 2 hitter. It was Upton's first homer in 60 at-bats this spring. He's hit .267, but he's also struck out 21 times, so it hasn't been the best of springs by any means.

Tue Mar 25 201412:22Upton likely to bat second for Braves
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is leaning toward batting B.J. Upton second.
Upton doesn't make enough contact to be the prototypical No. 2 hitter, but Gonzalez is willing to give him a shot. We're not fully convinced that he's ready for a rebound after his nightmare 2013, but he makes for a fine late-round flier in fantasy leagues.

Sun Mar 23 201416:38B.J. Upton goes 2-for-3, triples
B.J. Upton went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk Sunday against the Mets.
Upton has his spring average up to .294, though the fact that it's come with no homers and 17 strikeouts in 51 at-bats nullifies any reason for excitement. At least he has shown enough that manager Fredi Gonzalez probably won't be in any hurry to bench him if he starts off April with a couple of 0-for-4s.

Sun Mar 16 201416:24B.J. Upton swipes fourth base of spring
B.J. Upton went 2-for-4 and stole his fourth base of the spring Sunday against the Yankees.
Upton stole it off former teammate Brian McCann. Upton isn't hitting for any power this spring, but he does have his average up to .297 in 37 at-bats. Interesting is that he's attempted five steals. Last year, his streak of five straight 30-steal seasons ended when he stole just 12 bases in 17 attempts. If he attempts 40 steals or so this year, he won't need to bounce all of the way back offensively to be a useful fantasy outfielder.

Mon Mar 10 201416:15B.J. Upton singles twice against Phillies
B.J. Upton singled twice and stole his second base of the spring Monday versus the Phillies.
After opening the spring 0-for-4, Upton, who missed Saturday's game with an illness, is 7-for-22 with a couple of doubles in seven games this month. His spring performance hasn't been particularly encouraging or discouraging as of yet. He seems to be making more contact after tweaking his spring over the winter, but he hasn't displayed much power yet.

Sat Mar 8 201412:07B.J. Upton (illness) scratched on Saturday
B.J. Upton was scratched from the Braves starting lineup on Saturday due to an illness.
He's expected to return to the lineup in a day or two. The 29-year-old outfielder is hitting .200 (4-for-20) with an 8/1 K/BB ratio through his first seven Grapefruit League contests.

Fri Jan 31 201409:24B.J. Upton works on swing over offseason
B.J. Upton has worked on his swing over the winter, and Braves hitting coach Greg Walker said it's "a lot closer to what it was when he first broke into the league."
Walker watched Upton take swings in an indoor batting cage earlier this week in Tampa, Fla. "The swings I saw work for me," Walker said. "It was a lot different than what we saw last year. It was a lot more simple, with a lot less moving parts." Upton is looking for a big rebound year after batting an embarrassing .184/.268/.289 with nine homers in his first year in Atlanta.

Sat Aug 31 201323:17B.J. Upton's walkoff single beats the Marlins
B.J. Upton hit a walkoff RBI single in the Braves' 5-4 victory over the Marlins on Saturday.
Upton collected four hits in all -- matching a personal season-high -- and played the role of hero with his game-winning hit to right-center field in the bottom of the 11th inning. The 29-year-old outfielder is batting just .195/.275/.308 this season but he still has the talent to make a positive fantasy impact down the stretch.

Fri Aug 23 201323:36B.J. Upton snaps hitless streak in loss
B.J. Upton notched his first hit since August 7 in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.
His second-inning single snapped an 0-for-25 hitless streak. Upton may see more at-bats against right-handed starters now that Jason Heyward (jaw) will miss the rest of the season, but Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez still has the option of using Jordan Schafer and Evan Gattis in the outfield.

Wed Aug 21 201316:33B.J, Upton goes hitless against Mets
Making just his second start in a week, B.J. Upton went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Wednesday against the Mets.
Upton went 10-for-21 in his first five games back from the DL this month, but he's 0-for-24 since and manager Fredi Gonzalez started benching him against righties last week. Perhaps Upton will get a reprieve if Jason Heyward is forced to the DL, though that's hardly be a good thing for the Braves. We just doubt the platooning idea will work.

Sun Aug 18 201309:04Upton will return to lineup against Gonzalez
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said on Saturday that B.J. Upton will return to Sunday's lineup against Nationals' left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Upton was benched on Saturday for the third straight game against a right-hander. All of those starts have gone to Jordan Schafer, though Fredi Gonzalez declined to label the situation as a platoon. Upton is slashing an egregious .188/.270/.303 through his first 95 games with the Braves. "We're going way too well for me to be worried about what I'm doing," Upton said. "This is bigger than me. This is about the team."

Sat Aug 17 201315:17B.J. Upton continues to sit against righties
B.J. Upton is not in Saturday's lineup.
Upton continues to sit against right-handers and is 0-for-15 with seven strikeouts over his last five games. The Braves will platoon him with Jordan Schafer for now.

Thu Aug 15 201319:43Upton is 0-for-15 over last five games
B.J. Upton is 0-for-15 with no walks and seven strikeouts over his last five games.
Upton was spectacular upon activation from the disabled list on August 3, showing no ill-effects of his nearly one-month layoff due to a strained right adductor muscle, going 10-for-21 (.476) with three steals in his first five games. Bad B.J. has shown up to the park ever since. The center fielder is batting an ugly .188/.270/.304 in his first season in Atlanta.

Sun Aug 4 201323:25B.J. Upton collects two hits on Sunday night
B.J. Upton went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday night's win against the Phillies.
Upton had a home run called back in the fourth inning or he would of had an even bigger night. He now has a hit in back-to-back games after going 1-for-5 in his return from the DL on Saturday, but is still batting just .182/.270/.304 with eight steals over 286 at-bats.

Sat Aug 3 201312:26B.J. Upton batting eighth in return from DL
Braves activated OF B.J. Upton from the 15-day disabled list.
Upton has been sidelined since July 12 with a strained right adductor muscle, but was cleared to return after making a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett this week. He's starting in center field and batting eighth in Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Fri Aug 2 201317:35B.J. Upton (groin) could be activated Sat.
B.J. Upton (groin) could be activated from the disabled list Saturday.
Upton, out since July 12 with a strained right adductor muscle, is 3-for-7 with two doubles and two RBI over his first two rehab games with Triple-A Gwinnett. He's expected to play another game tonight, but should return Saturday if there are no issues.
