Sat Dec 21 201300:01Burks posts low-level line in 28 minutes
Alec Burks scored 13 points off the bench in Friday's blowout loss, hitting 6-of-12 shots (no threes) with three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 28 minutes.
The problem with Burks' game is his lack of steals, blocks and threes, but over the past two weeks he has been able to overcome that with more solid popcorn numbers. Just a 16-18 team value on the year, he's worth a look but he needs to be a bit more productive if he's going to be worth hanging onto long-term.

Tue Dec 17 201300:13Alec Burks has career-best 31 & 7 night
Alec Burks had the game of his career in Monday night's loss to the Heat, setting career-bests in points (31) and assists (7) in 34 minutes off the bench.
Burks hit 12-of-17 shots with two threes and also added three rebounds and four steals to this awesome line. The Heat are notoriously thin in their second unit but this line makes him as pretty close to being a must-add player as one can get, with Burks' season-long top-200 value being the major issue we just can't ignore. He has been better over the last two weeks with averages of 15.0 points, 1.0 threes, 3.3 boards, and 2.4 assists, but having just 0.6 combined steals and blocks over that span has limited him to just borderline late-round value in standard 12-team leagues.

Sun Dec 15 201301:02Alec Burks struggles with shot on Saturday
Alec Burks hit just 4-of-16 shots for nine points, two rebounds and nothing else in Saturday's loss.
Burks was pretty hot coming into Friday's game, averaging nearly 17 points over his previous five games and scoring in double figures in eight straight, but has cooled off over his last two. On Friday and Saturday, he hit just 7-of-25 shots and totaled 16 points. He's still getting solid minutes for the Jazz and once his shot starts falling again, he'll be worth owning and starting in fantasy. But it might be wise to bench him until he breaks out of his mini-slump before rolling him back out there.

Sat Dec 14 201302:08Alec Burks cools off in Friday's win
Alec Burks played just 22 minutes and had seven points, three rebounds and two assists on 3-of-9 shooting on Friday.
Burks came in averaging 16.6 points over his last five games and scoring in double figures in eight straight, so he was probably due for an off night. Hopefully you saw it coming and didn't use him in a daily league tonight.

Thu Dec 12 201301:18Alec Burks stays hot in win over Kings
Alec Burks hit 7-of-11 shots and three 3-pointers for 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and a block in Wednesday's easy win over the Kings.
Burks has hit double digits in scoring in eight straight games and is averaging 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.0 3-pointers over his last five games, while shooting 52 percent from the floor. And those numbers mean that he should be owned in most 12-team leagues.

Mon Dec 9 201323:48Alec Burks scores 15 in first half in loss
Alec Burks scored 15 points in the first half of Monday's loss to the Blazers, finishing with 20 points and three boards in 25 minutes.
He's been extremely aggressive lately and 10 of his 11 shots came from within nine feet tonight. Burks is shooting 51.7 percent over his last five games while averaging 17.4 points, 3.6 boards, 3.0 assists and 1.0 triples in 29.8 minutes. He's starting to heat up and is worth owning in standard leagues despite the lack of steals right now.

Sun Dec 8 201300:55Alec Burks stays hot in loss to Kings
Alec Burks continued to play well off the bench on Saturday with 19 points, four boards, five assists and one 3-pointer on 6-of-12 shooting in 37 minutes.
He looks much better in a lot of areas. Burks has always been able to get to the basket, but he really had issues finishing. The 22-year-old guard looked like he was trying to get on the highlight reel two weeks ago with some wild layups, and now he's going straight to the basket more and it's helped him convert more shots from short range. He's been a complete player over his last five with averages of 16.0 points, 3.6 boards, 4.0 assists, 0.4 steals 1.2 triples and 1.8 turnovers on 48.3 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the charity stripe. Fantasy owners in standard leagues should probably pick him back up.

Sat Dec 7 201304:36Burks scores 16 points off the bench
Alec Burks scored 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting (including a three) with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 28 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Burks has made some noise over the past week with averages of 30 minutes, 15.3 points, 1.3 treys, 3.5 boards, 3.8 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.3 blocks, which makes him a late round value over that span. He'll have to work hard to keep up the bigger popcorn numbers because he traditionally hasn't accumulated defensive stats or 3-pointers.

Thu Dec 5 201300:25Alec Burks scores 11 in another loss
Alec Burks hit 4-of-10 shots for 11 points, five rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes on Wednesday.
Burks had been cooking coming into this one, scoring 16, 13 and 21 points in his previous three games, and was far from terrible tonight. If you're holding a player you want to cut, Burks is getting close to 30 minutes a night right now, meaning he can probably help most fantasy teams.

Tue Dec 3 201301:52Is the good Alec Burks back for Utah?
Alec Burks put up his third consecutive encouraging outing on Monday with 21 points, three rebounds, four assists, one block and three 3-pointers on 7-of-11 shooting in 32 minutes.
His minutes are on the rise thanks to better shot selection and taking much better care of the ball. Clearly the presence of Trey Burke has helped Burks and playing on the wing has helped him settle in and play within himself. He hasn't registered a steal in any game of his last five games, but he should be able to average over one per game as long as he's playing 30 minutes per night. The 22-year-old guard is worth a look in standard leagues.

Sun Dec 1 201300:27Alec Burks coming on again for Jazz
Alec Burks hit 5-of-9 shots and a 3-pointer for 13 points, three rebounds and five assists in Saturday's win over the Suns.
Burks had 16 points off the bench on Friday and may be getting ready to get hot again. The 32 minutes he played on Saturday were his most since Nov. 2 and also marks the first time he hit at least 50 percent of his shots in a game since Nov. 1. He could be earning back the trust of the coaching staff, meaning you should put him on your radar.

Sat Nov 30 201304:42Burks scores 16 points off the bench
Alec Burks scored 16 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 5-of-12 shots (6-of-7 FTs) with five rebounds and zero assists in 24 minutes.
Burks went empty in the defensive columns and we need to see him produce at this level or better a bunch before we'll recommend an add in most formats.

Thu Nov 21 201301:27Alec Burks plays just 16 minutes on Wednesday
Alec Burks played just 16 minutes off the bench on Wednesday, scoring eight points with one rebound, one assist, one steal and two blocks on 3-of-6 shooting.
He turned the ball over an unacceptable four times, which hasn't really been a big issue for him. Shooting has been the problem and tonight was the first night in which he shot at least 50 percent from the field since Nov. 2. Burks clearly looks like a loser with the return of Trey Burke, so his standard-league owners might want to make a move for someone else. We'll let you know if get is able to actually capitalize on his opportunity in the future.

Tue Nov 19 201300:42Burks hits rock bottom in 23 minutes
Alec Burks hit rock bottom for owners in the Jazz's 98-87 blowout loss to the Warriors on Monday, missing all five of his field goal attempts to finish with two points on free throws, two rebounds, three assists and a steal in 23 minutes.
Strange as it sounds considering how badly Trey Burke played in the preseason and Summer League, but the Jazz need him back in the worst way. Burks will probably have his name called at some point down the road, but owners in 12-14 team leagues can move on at this point.

Sat Nov 16 201304:08Burks tepid in start at point guard vs. SA
Alec Burks started at point guard in Friday's loss to the Spurs, scoring 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting (including a three) with zero rebounds, four assists and one steal in 29 minutes.
Burks had his hands full with Tony Parker and dealt with foul trouble, as well. Nothing he did tonight suggested that he was imminently going to turn the corner, and while he has some stash appeal it's not enough that owners should pass on hot free agents in 12-14 team formats.

Fri Nov 15 201319:29Burks to start at point guard vs. Spurs
Alec Burks will start at point guard against the Spurs on Friday.
The Jazz aren't getting anything out of the position right now and this is a great place for Burks to jumpstart his game. He has been very inconsistent this season but has flashed some potential, so he's worth keeping an eye on and maybe even adding if he does well. Just realize that Trey Burke is coming back soon and Burks will need to take a step forward before he's worth owning in standard leagues.

Sat Nov 9 201321:48Alec Burks plays well off Jazz bench
Alec Burks hit 4-of-10 shots and two 3-pointers for 17 points, three rebounds and four assists in Saturday's ugly loss to the Raptors.
The Jazz are now 0-7 and Burks has been inconsistent thus far, struggling to make shots more often than not. We still like him as a sleeper, but all he's done this season is tease his owners, causing them to bench him on big nights and play him when he posts a dud. But with the Jazz reeling and ancient Richard Jefferson still in the starting five, there's a chance a lineup change could help Burks' outlook.

Sat Nov 9 201301:52Alec Burks has worst shooting game of year
Alec Burks couldn't buy a bucket against the Bulls on Friday, shooting 3-of-13 from the field for 10 points with one board, one assist, four steal and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes.
The steals were nice, but he's mired in a bit of a shooting slump. In his last four games, Burks is shooting just 33.3 percent from the field. Burks is still getting shots and has been charged with most of the responsibilities with the second unit, so he's worth holding in most leagues.

Thu Nov 7 201300:45Alec Burks' minutes trend down again
Alec Burks played 22 minutes against the Celtics on Wednesday, turning the ball over four times with eight points, four boards and one steal on 4-of-9 shooting.
He played 34 minutes on Saturday, 28 minutes on Tuesday and now he played a season-low 22 tonight. Burks hasn't exactly had the look of a guy that is going to have a breakout season, but he still has the opportunity. His owners should give him a little leash with the lack of depth on Utah, unless it's to pick up a hot free agent.

Sun Nov 3 201301:27Alec Burks solid off Jazz bench again
Alec Burks played 34 minutes and hit 6-of-16 shots and a 3-pointer for 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block in Saturday's loss.
Burks is off to a hot start, averaging 18 points per game, but has hit just one 3-pointer on the season. More threes should be coming and tonight's steals were also a good sign of things to come for the breakout candidate.
