Sat Nov 2 201302:49Burks scores 15 points off the bench
Alec Burks scored 15 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 6-of-9 shots (no threes) with two rebounds and one assist in 27 minutes.
These one-cat lines are a concern for Burks, and he wasn't helped by a 3-of-7 mark from the foul line, either. He had 24 points, six boards and six assists in 32 minutes on Wednesday, so there is some potential, but don't be surprised if he has more of this type of line than Wednesday's version -- at least early on.

Thu Oct 31 201300:42Alec Burks scores 24 points in 32 minutes
Alec Burks excelled in his season debut against the Thunder with a team-high 24 points to go with six boards and six assists in 32 minutes on Wednesday.
He didn't have any threes, steals or blocks, but his shooting was solid, making 8-of-16 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the charity stripe. Burks has always had an aggressive style to help his free throw attempts, but he hasn't really developed much of a long-range game. He did take three attempts from downtown and he looks like a strong bet for a career year as the sixth man.

Tue Oct 29 201318:16Jazz pick up Alec Burks' fourth-year option
The Jazz have picked up Alec Burks' contract option for the 2014-15 season.
Burks averaged 7.0 points with 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 18 minutes per game last year, but the Jazz expect major improvements from him this season. He'll come off the bench behind Gordon Hayward and should be a focal point of Utah's second unit, giving him a chance to set career-highs across the board.

Wed Oct 23 201301:17Alec Burks scores 14 off Jazz bench
Alec Burks hit 5-of-11 shots and a 3-pointer for 14 points, five rebounds, six assists and a steal.
He's got the potential to put up lines like this consistently as the team's sixth man and should be available late in drafts. Burks was taken with the 142nd pick in a recent expert draft, where he should be able to return some decent value.

Tue Oct 22 201315:06Burks-Hayward backcourt on Tuesday night?
Coach Ty Corbin said he could use a backcourt of Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward on Tuesday night.
Interesting. Corbin seems committed to playing Richard Jefferson at the starting small forward spot while the team has some serious issues at point guard. John Lucas III has looked like a third-string guard and Lester Hudson isn't much of a distributor. Burks played some point guard last year, plus he and Hayward have been bringing the ball up quite a bit this month. Both players have a good chance to outperform their average draft position in most formats.

Wed Oct 16 201323:53Alec Burks has a rough night Wednesday
Alec Burks shot 1-of-13 from the field on Wednesday night, scoring four points with one board, one assist, one steal and one block in 30 minutes.
He did shoot 45.8 percent from the field in his previous preseason games, so this hasn't been a trend this month. Burks has been running point on a large chunk of possessions this preseason and coach Ty Corbin has said he'll look to play him in the right matchup, so he's still someone to watch despite this horrendous shooting performance.

Tue Oct 15 201318:58Alec Burks could start at point guard
Coach Ty Corbin said Alec Burks could start at point guard in some matchups.
"It may be at times, because of his size, we start him at point," Corbin said. "[John] Lucas is a smaller guy. Scott [Machado] is a smaller point guard also." Corbin has tried Burks off the bench, as his starting shooting guard and now he'll likely give him a look at point guard. Burks is picking up steam as a player to take at the end of drafts and enters the season with a huge opportunity to produce.

Mon Oct 14 201314:10Alec Burks spent time with John Stockton
Alec Burks said the time he spent with John Stockton this summer will help him if he gets point guard duties.
With Trey Burke out 8-12 weeks, the Jazz are by far the thinnest at point guard among Western Conference teams. Burks did play some point guard for the team last year, so he's going to have the ball in his hands a lot. His career scoring average is just 7.1 points per game, but he'll have a chance to score twice that number this season.

Fri Oct 11 201314:15Alec Burks will start on Friday night
Alec Burks will start at shooting guard on Friday night.
He will take the place of Richard Jefferson in the starting lineup against the Blazers. Burks looked good off the bench on Tuesday, scoring 14 points in 22 minutes, and coach Ty Corbin said he liked Burks in that role. The Jazz really need some perimeter scoring with Burks' slashing style does fit in nicely with the rest of their first unit. If he can make more 3-pointers, he could be in for a nice season.

Tue Oct 8 201323:59Alec Burks comes off the bench for 14 points
Alec Burks scored 14 points off the bench on Tuesday, adding three boards, four assists and one steal on 6-of-10 shooting in 22 minutes.
"We want to see Alec coming off the bench right now - see if he gives us some punch off the bench," coach Ty Corbin said before the game. The move came as a bit of a surprise, but it's really not a bad idea. Burks did play some point guard last season and showed he's capable of distributing the ball, which could help him become the main cog with the second unit. Burks is still a player we like as a possible late-round flier at the end of standard drafts. For what it's worth, Richard Jefferson scored just four points in 22 minutes in the start.

Tue Jul 23 201316:54Alec Burks expected to start for Jazz
Alec Burks is expected to start at one wing for the Jazz this season.
The Jazz will field an intriguing projected starting five of Trey Burke, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter. Now entering his third NBA season but still just 22 years old, Burks is poised to make a serious leap forward. So far, his per-36 minute career averages are 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Burks continues to play through a sprained ankle. After dropping 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting Tuesday, Burks was just 3-of-8 from the field and 1-of-2 from 3-point range Wednesday. He did get to the line seven times Wednesday after attempting nine free throws Tuesday.

Alec Burks (ankle), Tony Gaffney (right adductor) and Jerel McNeal (right knee) are doubtful to play against Houston on Tuesday.

Sun Jul 7 201323:22Alec Burks fine after mild left ankle sprain
Alec Burks' left ankle was "mildly sprained" during Sunday's game.
As expected, this isn't an injury anyone needs to worry about. It would be great for Burks to get some reps with his teammates, including rookies Trey Burke and Rudy Gobert, but the Jazz also won't take any risks with their third-year swingman, who has the inside track to start at SG this season. Don't be surprised if he misses a few Summer League games as a precaution.

Sun Jul 7 201314:26Alec Burks injures ankle in summer league
Alec Burks suffered a left ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday's Summer League and will not return.
He was hot before going down and had 10 points in 11 minutes of action. Burks was productive in Summer League last July, averaging 17.2 points in 26.8 minutes, which may have been a stepping stone for his most productive year last season. We'll keep you posted on the degree of the injury as soon as the info becomes available.

Sat Apr 13 201312:07Alec Burks plays 19 minutes in return to Jazz
Alec Burks (ankle) scored seven points to go along with four rebounds and one 3-pointer Friday night.
Burks missed the last two games with a sprained ankle and is probably still a little hobbled. Burks has some decent 3-point potential, but he's stuck behind Mo Williams and Randy Foye, which pretty much negates his value.

Tue Apr 9 201312:48Alec Burks (ankle) doubtful to play Tuesday
Alec Burks (ankle) is doubtful to face the Thunder on Tuesday.
Burks didn't practice on Monday after not playing on Sunday, but it's not clear how severe the sprain is or how much time he might miss. Without him, Mo Williams and Randy Foye stand to pick up a few extra minutes.
