Wed Sep 29 201013:55Joel Anthony could be leader for starting job
Asked about the competition for the starting center job in Miami, Erik Spoelstra said, "It's probably too early to say this, but like I've said, I like what [Joel Anthony] does."
Starting Anthony would make sense given his shot-blocking ability, and Miami certainly doesn't need offense out of its starting center. Starting Anthony would allow Zydrunas Ilgauskas to play an offensive-minded role off the bench. It's a nice arrangement for Miami, but isn't likely to result in significant fantasy value for either player.

Mon Aug 16 201014:27Joel Anthony likely to start at C for Heat
Joel Anthony is projected to be the Miami Heat's starting center, according to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com
"Anthony started ahead of Jamaal Magloire last season and Zydrunas Ilgauskas will likely be used in a reserve role," writes Kennedy. The move is logical since the Heat won't have many shots left over with LeBron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh already on the court. Anthony's specialties are rebounding and defense, and he has minimal fantasy appeal.

Fri Jul 16 201019:55Heat re-sign center Joel Anthony
The Heat have re-signed center Joel Anthony.
Anthony could start at center, where he'd be relieved by soon-to-be-signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas off the bench, or it could go the other way around. Juwan Howard, who is also expected to sign shortly, Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem can also play some center, so we're not expecting a lot out of Anthony with the Heat this season.

Tue Jul 13 201019:30Heat make qualifying offer to Anthony
The Heat have reportedly made a qualifying offer to center Joel Anthony, but that's in jeopardy with a report that Mike Miller is hedging on accepting the Heat's offer.
Now that the Heat have signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas the need to sign Anthony is not as great. If Miller wants more money, the Heat could clear some by pulling their offer to Anthony.

Thu May 13 201014:10Joel Anthony likely to decline player option
Joel Anthony is expected to decline the player option for the final year of his contract, worth $885k, in order to become a free agent.
Anthony blocked 3.96 shots per 48 minutes this season, good for seventh-best in the league. An affordable big man who can provide a defensive presence won't be overlooked in this summer's center-thin pool of FAs.
