Sun Feb 20 201108:53F-Mart says knee is 100 percent
Fernando Martinez said his right knee feels 100 percent as he reported to Mets camp Sunday.
F-Mart had to shut it down at winter ball after one game due to a mild case of arthritis in the knee, but it appears he's good to go now. GM Sandy Alderson has said he'd prefer that Martinez begin the 2011 season in the minor league in order to make up for developmental time that he lost when he was promoted to the majors too soon. He's hit .174 in 109 big league at-bats but is still just 22, so there's time.

Tue Nov 30 201015:06F-Mart has arthritis in right knee
The Mets announced on Tuesday that Fernando Martinez was diagnosed with mild arthritis in his right knee.
Martinez underwent an MRI, which revealed that the condition of the knee has not changed. That's actually very good news. Still, it's troubling to hear the word "arthritis" associated with a 22-year-old outfielder who has struggled to stay on the field for the duration of his professional career. He's still young, but we're not holding our breath on a breakthrough season.

Tue Nov 30 201012:29F-Mart doesn't need surgery on knee
A source tells Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com that Fernando Martinez will not require surgery on his ailing right knee.
Good news. Martinez appeared in just one game with the Escogido Lions in the Dominican Winter League before feeling pain in the very same knee that ended his season. The 22-year-old outfielder was told that the knee just needs strengthening, so hopefully he'll be on track for spring training.

Mon Nov 29 201019:33F-Mart has knee examined in New York
Fernando Martinez (knee) was examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Monday.
Not good, as injuries have been a constant with the now 22-year-old outfielder. Martinez was shut down in August due to stiffness in the very same knee and told ESPN's Enrique Rojas that he felt pain while playing in the Dominican Winter League last week. More information on his condition should be available Tuesday.

Fri Nov 26 201009:26F-Mart likely to be shut down at winter ball
Fernando Martinez felt pain in his right knee Thursday after playing one game in the Dominican Winter League.
The Mets are likely to shut him down. Martinez missed the last few months of the 2010 season because of an injury to his right knee and it's not going to get any better if he continues to push it. The 22-year-old outfielder went 1-for-3 with two RBI in his debut Wednesday for the Escogido Lions.

Tue Oct 26 201016:51F-Mart (knee) to play in winter league
Fernando Martinez (knee) is expected to be ready to play for the Escogido Lions in the Dominican Winter League in about two weeks.
Martinez suffered a season-ending injury to his right knee in August, but did not require surgery. Once billed as a top prospect, constant injuries have kept the now 22-year-old outfielder from matching his potential. His future remains a question mark.

Sun Aug 22 201022:15Martinez and Turned suffer injuries at AAA
Fernando Martinez and Justin Turner were injured in a doubleheader for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Martinez played in the first game, but a minor knee injury forced him to sit out the second contest. He aggravated the injury trying to beat out a doubleplay in the sixth inning of the first game. It doesn't appear as though he'll miss time. Turner's knee buckled and his ailment could be more serious. Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell said Turner will be reevaluated on Monday.

Thu Aug 19 201016:37Mets option F-Mart back to Triple-A
Mets optioned OF Fernando Martinez to Triple-A Buffalo.
F-Mart hasn't seen enough playing time at the big level and will head back to Triple-A where everyday starts are available. The 21-year-old managed just three hits in 18 at-bats for a .167/.273/.167 slash line.
Thu Aug 19 201013:37Mets to send down Fernando Martinez
According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Fernando Martinez will be sent down to Triple-A Buffalo in order to make room for Rod Barajas' return from the disabled list.
So much for his right field platoon with Jeff Francoeur. F-Mart has only managed 18 at-bats since being called up a little under two weeks ago. We're not defending the Mets' decision-making here, but Martinez is better off playing everyday in Triple-A if Francoeur continues to play regularly.

Sat Aug 7 201016:57F-Mart to platoon in RF with Jeff Francoeur
Fernando Martinez will platoon with Jeff Francoeur in right field.
Platoons are never good for fantasy purposes, and this one will be no different. F-Mart was called up to the big leagues on Saturday after batting .255/.321/.466 in 247 at-bats for Triple-A Buffalo. It's nice to see him get some playing time, but it's rough that it'll be on a shared basis.

Sat Aug 7 201011:07Martinez summoned from Triple-A
Mets recalled OF Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo.
There was previous speculation that Martinez, as well as Ruben Tejada, could be involved in a trade, but the two youngsters are simply being promoted. It's unclear what the Mets are intending to do to free up a roster spot for Martinez, so until we known that, it's tough to gauge what kind of role he will have.
Sat Aug 7 201008:16Martinez/Tejada either promoted or traded
Both Fernando Martinez and Ruben Tejada were late scratches from Triple-A Buffalo's lineup Friday, and the Mets wouldn't say why.
"I'm not going to comment on that," GM Omar Minaya said. "I have nothing to say about that right now." The only two options that make sense are that they are being promoted or being traded. Martinez is batting .255 with 12 homers in 68 games at Triple-A, while Tejada is hitting .280 in 65 games with the Bisons and .212 in 35 games with the Mets.

Tue Jun 8 201000:17Fernando Martinez returns to action
Fernando Martinez (hamstring) was 2-for-3 and played five innings in right field for High-A St. Lucie on Monday night.
It was Martinez's first game action since straining his left hamstring last month. He was batting a disappointing .244/.300/.378 in 82 at-bats with Triple-A Buffalo before suffering the injury. The 21-year-old remains an intriguing prospect, but he just can't seem to shake the injury tag.

Fri May 14 201016:16Mets prospect Martinez lands on DL
Fernando Martinez has been placed on Triple-A Buffalo's DL with a strained left hamstring.
It seemed like Martinez was on his way to a breakthrough season after being named MVP of the Caribbean Series and then turning in an outstanding spring, but he was off to an awful start in Triple-A, hitting .244/.300/.378 in 82 at-bats. Now the injury bug has bitten him again.
