RHP Bryan Shaw had a disastrous outing in the Indians' win Saturday. Shaw came into the game in the eighth inning with Cleveland leading 7-1 and gave up four runs, three hits, a walk, a double and two home runs. "He kind of lost the plate there for a while," manager Terry Francona said.

RHP Bryan Shaw (0-1) drew the loss out of the bullpen on Saturday after surrendering a career-worst five runs in two-thirds of an inning against the White Sox. "He kept falling behind hitters and just got himself in trouble," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said.

Shaw picked up the save in a 2-0 victory with closer Cody Allen unavailable due to a stiff back.

Allen is expected back Wednesday but Shaw would be next in line to close out games for the Indians if Allen were unavailable.

Shaw recorded the final four outs -- including a strikeout -- for his first save Thursday against the Cubs.

Indians closer Cody Allen was called upon to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth after a rain delay, so Shaw received the save opportunity Thursday. He converted it without allowing a single base runner, but it is unlikely that Shaw will see many more save chances. The Indians will continue to use Allen as their closer, and Shaw should return to his role as a set up man.

It was interesting to see Shaw come in so early, but it was also pretty clear he wasn't going to pitch beyond that inning, having pitched three times in the previous five days. Cody Allen gave up another run later in the game, and while the Indians haven't suggested that they will change out the closer role, if they do opt to do so either Shaw or Scott Atchison are the most likely alternatives.

Shaw, who allowed a pair of solo homers Saturday, has now allowed twelve runs (six earned) on 12 hits, including three homers, in just 4.2 innings this spring.

Shaw served as Cody Allen's primary setup man last year, making a league-high 80 appearances for Cleveland. His struggles against lefties and a mediocre K rate limit his fantasy value but he should open the season as the team's primary setup man despite his struggles this spring.

Shaw and the Indians agreed on a one-year, $1.55 million contract Friday.
