RHP Bryan Shaw had a disastrous outing in the Indians' win Saturday. Shaw came into the game in the eighth inning with Cleveland leading 7-1 and gave up four runs, three hits, a walk, a double and two home runs. "He kind of lost the plate there for a while," manager Terry Francona said.

RHP Bryan Shaw (0-1) drew the loss out of the bullpen on Saturday after surrendering a career-worst five runs in two-thirds of an inning against the White Sox. "He kept falling behind hitters and just got himself in trouble," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said.

Shaw picked up the save in a 2-0 victory with closer Cody Allen unavailable due to a stiff back.
Allen is expected back Wednesday but Shaw would be next in line to close out games for the Indians if Allen were unavailable.

Shaw recorded the final four outs -- including a strikeout -- for his first save Thursday against the Cubs.
Indians closer Cody Allen was called upon to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth after a rain delay, so Shaw received the save opportunity Thursday. He converted it without allowing a single base runner, but it is unlikely that Shaw will see many more save chances. The Indians will continue to use Allen as their closer, and Shaw should return to his role as a set up man.

Shaw converted his fifth hold of the season in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays, getting the last two outs of the sixth inning.
It was interesting to see Shaw come in so early, but it was also pretty clear he wasn't going to pitch beyond that inning, having pitched three times in the previous five days. Cody Allen gave up another run later in the game, and while the Indians haven't suggested that they will change out the closer role, if they do opt to do so either Shaw or Scott Atchison are the most likely alternatives.

Shaw, who allowed a pair of solo homers Saturday, has now allowed twelve runs (six earned) on 12 hits, including three homers, in just 4.2 innings this spring.
Shaw served as Cody Allen's primary setup man last year, making a league-high 80 appearances for Cleveland. His struggles against lefties and a mediocre K rate limit his fantasy value but he should open the season as the team's primary setup man despite his struggles this spring.

Shaw and the Indians agreed on a one-year, $1.55 million contract Friday.
Shaw figures to be back as Cody Allen's primary setup man again in 2015 after a successful stint in the setup role in 2014.
Wed Dec 3 201409:14Shaw tendered contract by Indians before Tuesday night deadline
Shaw was tendered a contract by the Indians before the Tuesday night deadline.
Shaw emerged as Cody Allen's primary setup man in 2014, striking out 64 batters in 76.3 innings, with a franchise-record 8-0 appearances out of the bullpen and figures to fill the same role again in 2015.

Shaw tossed 2.3 shutout innings in relief and struck out three batters en route to claiming his fifth victory of the season in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the White Sox.
Pitching for the sixth time in seven games, Shaw was asked to stay in the game longer than normal due to the game heading to extra innings. Shaw will almost certainly receive the next day or two off given his heavy workload, but his 2.44 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 65 appearances this season will continue to entrench him as closer Cody Allen's top setup man.

Pitching for the third day in a row, Shaw threw a scoreless inning in relief Sunday against the Yankees.
Shaw's ERA dropped to 2.68 with the outing. Though he didn't get a hold Sunday (the Indians had a four-run lead at the time), Shaw has 15 holds on the season.
Sun May 11 201419:04Shaw called on for save as Indians top Rays
Bryan Shaw was called on to save Sunday's game against the Rays, pitching a scoreless ninth to preserve the Indians' 6-5 win.
With John Axford scuffling, Shaw converted his second save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. The right-hander owns a 1.45 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, and Axford's struggles have opened the door for him to receive more save chances going forward. Pay attention to who gets the call the next time the Indians have a save opportunity, but closer-needy owners should grab Shaw as a speculative add in all formats.

Tue May 6 201421:48Shaw picks up first save of 2014 vs. MIN
Bryan Shaw picked up his first save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Twins, allowing one unearned run in one inning of work.
Shaw got the save opportunity as closer John Axford had pitched in three consecutive days with poor results. Axford doesn't appear to have job insecurity at the moment, but that could change with a couple more shaky outings. In that case, Shaw and Cody Allen would be the top candidates for save chances. Shaw allowed the one run as a result of Asdrubal Cabrera's fielding error with two outs in the ninth, prolonging the game. It was followed up by an Eduardo Escobar RBI double.

Fri May 24 201305:38Shaw proving worth to Indians in first season
Bryan Shaw boasts a 1.54 ERA over 18 appearances in his first season for the Indians.
Acquired from the Diamondbacks as a bit player in January's complicated three-team trade, Shaw has been a linchpin in Cleveland's bullpen, compiling a 1.07 WHIP and 23/7 K/BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings. He's only earned two holds, however, and they came in consecutive appearances earlier this month.
