Niese faced the minimum over two innings in an intrasquad Tuesday, showing good life on his fastball, ESPN New York reports.
Niese's shoulder, which sidelined him last year, has not been an issue so far this sporing. Manager Terry Collins said he can easily tell that Niese's shoulder is doing fine, since arm slot is higher and his arm speed is better this spring training.

Niese, whose pitching shoulder was so bad that he says he "probably should've missed the first month of the season," is fully healthy and ready for the season, the NY Daily News reports.
Niese is the sole lefty in the Mets' rotation, which boasts eight pitchers for five spots, so his spot looks secure. But Steven Matz is ascending and could challenge for a spot by mid-year, possibly making Niese, signed for two more years with two club options, expendable.

Niese's injury history has reduced the level of interest in him as a possible trade option by the Mets, the NY Daily News' Andy Martino reports.
Niese is slated to make $7, $9, $10, $11 million annually through 2018, with the final two years as club options, which on the face of it should be a trade friendly contract. However, his elbow and shoulder injuries has reduced interest in him, as the Mets look to possibly deal from their starting pitching depth to fill other holes.

Niese (chest) is feeling fine and will not need to see a doctor for an examination, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
It was earlier reported that he would need to visit a doctor after leaving Saturday's game with a rapid heartbeat, but he will instead head home to Ohio and begin his offseason.
Sun Sep 28 201411:06Niese will meet with doctor Monday
Niese, who left Friday's start early due to an elevated heart rate, will meet with a doctor Monday, the NY Post reports.
Niese was feeling better Saturday, but the Mets will have him meet with a doctor, especially since this is not the first time this has occurred. Niese was also a bit light-headed when he left the game, which may be another reason for the examination.

Niese left Friday's start early due to an elevated heart rate.
Niese apparently had the same issue earlier in his career but ultimately was advised that he didn't need surgery to correct it. He may discuss his options regarding the matter again in the offseason, but it likely won't effect his availability for the 2015 season.

Niese allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 7.1 innings to pick up the victory in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Braves on Saturday.
Niese took a shutout into the seventh, but departed with the bases loaded. Josh Edgin gave up a two-run single to Freddie Freeman, but Carlos Torres squashed the threat and Jenrry Mejia tossed a scoreless ninth to give Niese the win. Niese has allowed more than three runs just one in his last eight starts, while going 4-2 in that stretch.

Niese made one mistake and it cost him, as he allowed a two-run home run to Wilson Ramos in the seventh inning of the Mets' 3-0 loss to the Nationals on Sunday.
Niese allowed just those two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. He has just a 3.55 ERA on the season, but is only 8-11 due to the moribund Mets offense.

Niese did not record a decision Monday against the Rockies as he pitched 6.2 innings and allowed one run, eight hits and one walk to go along with seven strikeouts.
Niese pitched well Monday, but didn't get much support from his offense. Although he posted a solid strikeout total Monday, he hasn't provided many over the course of the season as he only has 122 in 168 innings.

Despite giving up six earned runs on 10 hits over six innings against the Marlins on Tuesday, Niese came away with the win, improving to 8-10. He also struck out four and didn't issue a walk.
Niese was staked to two different four-run leads in this one, offsetting his general inability to miss Miami's bats. He actually was able to groove 20-of-28 first-pitch strikes, but sometimes being around the strike zone too much can lead to batters squaring balls up more frequently, as the Marlins did on this night. Nonetheless, Niese now has a 3.68 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP in 26 starts this season and will face the Rockies in his next start Monday.

Niese allowed three runs and nine hits in 7.1 innings Thursday to take the loss against the Braves. He issued one walk and struck out five.
Niese allowed just one run over the first seven innings, but gave up a few in the eighth to make his outing look worse than it really was. The veteran lefty continues to give the Mets quality innings, not allowing more than three earned runs in 23 out of 25 starts this season. His average fastball velocity is down almost two mph from 90.2 to 88.6, but he's still able to get outs, aided by a 1.93 G/F ratio. He hasn't been as good away from home this year, and while his next start is on the road, it's not a spot in which he should do poorly, pitching against the Marlins.

Niese (7-9) took the loss on Friday against the Dodgers, giving up five runs (two earned) on eight hits over 6.2 innings pitched while walking three and striking out four hitters.
The Mets' pitcher pitched well enough and may have had a shot at a win if not for the defense. Niese has only had two games all season long where he has allowed more than three earned runs in a game. He currently sports a 3.47 ERA for the Mets.

Niese allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six in six-plus innings to pick up the win in the Mets' 7-3 victory over the Cubs on Saturday.
Nises cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one run, before running into trouble in the seventh. He allowed two runs and left with the bases loaded and no outs, but Vic Black retired the next three batters with no additional damage. Niese has now tossed back-to-back quality starts for the first time since he went on the disabled list in early-July.

Niese picked up his first win since June 28, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in seven innings, in the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Phillies on Monday.
Niese was nicked only by Darin Ruf's two-run home run but was aided by Juan Lagares throwing out Domonic Brown at the plate to end the seventh inning. For the most part, he was in control throughout and will look to carry this strong result forward to his next start.

Niese allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out just two in six innings in the Mets' 7-1 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.
With the loss, Niese slipped to 0-4 with a 5.76 ERA since the All-Star break, which is when he came off the disabled list. He landed on the disabled list with shoulder weakness and his velocity has been slow to come around. If Niese doesn't turn it around soon, it would not be surprising to see him land back on the disabled list.

Niese tossed eight innings Friday night, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out four in a 5-1 loss to the Giants.
A shoulder injury limited Niese to just 11.1 innings in July, but he certainly looks to be at 100 percent after Friday's eight frames on the mound. The 27-year-old southpaw is putting together a strong campaign for the Mets, as he has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his 20 starts. Niese will climb back atop the mound Wednesday versus the Nationals.
Tue Jul 22 201401:05Niese struggles in loss Mariners on Monday
In his return from the disabled list, Jon Niese allowed four earned runs over six innings in the Mets' loss to the Mariners on Monday.
Out since early July with shoulder inflammation, Niese punched out six and issued two free passes. The Mariners weren't fooled by his stuff, collecting 11 hits. Regardless, New York is happy to have Niese back, if for no other reason than to showcase him. The left-hander's contract is extremely team-friendly, paying out just $16 million over the next two seasons, with the Mets also in possession of a pair of club options totaling $21 million after that. Outside of a rusty return from layoff, Niese has been remarkably consistent; this was the first time he'd yielded more than three earned runs in a start. Now 5-5 with a 3.13 ERA, Niese heads to Milwaukee this weekend.

Jon Niese (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday.
It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since going on the disabled list. The Mets haven't put an official timetable on Niese's return, but the expectation is that he'll rejoin the rotation on July 21 in Seattle if all goes well.
