Wed Apr 11 201223:19Carl Pavano allows five vs. Halos
Carl Pavano took a no-decision in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Angels, allowing five runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.
In other words, Pavano did what Pavano does, though he did notch three strikeouts while issuing zero free passes. Now the owner of a 5.93 ERA and 1.02 WHIP through his first 13 2/3 innings of work, Pavano will get the Yankees in New York next Monday. Keep him benched.

Sun Apr 1 201217:25Carl Pavano loses to Red Sox
Carl Pavano gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Red Sox.
He wraps up the spring 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA. Pavano wasn't looking like a very good bet a few weeks ago, and now it seems he might be pitching in front of a Josh Willingham-Denard Span-Ryan Doumit outfield on occasion. Maybe it won't happen too often -- it will definitely make sense to have Ben Revere start when Pavano is pitching -- but it's just enough of a threat to drop his stock a bit more.

Tue Mar 27 201213:51Pavano throws six scoreless
Carl Pavano threw six scoreless innings Tuesday afternoon in a minor league exhibition game.
Pavano allowed just one hit and issued only one walk, hurling 58 of his 77 pitches for strikes. He is doubtful to carry any fantasy value this year, but Tuesday's outing can certainly be considered a positive.

Thu Mar 22 201215:58Carl Pavano gives up six runs in loss
Carl Pavano fell to 0-2 this spring after giving up six runs and eight hits in four innings against the Blue Jays.
Pavano relies an awful lot on his defense, but the Twins didn't exactly aim for big upgrades there in bringing in Josh Willingham, Jamey Carroll and Ryan Doumit over the winter. Pavano probably won't be of much use in Al-only leagues this season.

Sat Mar 3 201216:37Carl Pavano gives up two runs in debut
Carl Pavano yielded two runs and three hits in two innings Saturday against the Rays.
Pavano wasn't really any good last year, but as the only Twins starter to qualify for the ERA title, he's getting the nod on Opening Day. Who ever would have guessed that he'd be "the reliable one" on a pitching staff?

Wed Jan 25 201214:08Pavano to start Opening Day for Twins
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday night that he has Carl Pavano pegged as his Opening Day starter against the Orioles on April 6.
Twins' pitchers and catchers don't report until February 18, but Gardenhire is already lining up his rotation. He has also pegged Scott Baker for the home opener against Albert Pujols and the Angels on April 9. This will be Pavano's second straight Opening Day start for Minnesota. The 36-year-old right-hander is coming off a 4.30 ERA and 102/40 K/BB ratio over 222 innings last season.

Wed Sep 28 201122:58Carl Pavano spins shutout in season finale
Carl Pavano saved his best start of the season for his last, spinning a shutout while allowing just five hits and no walks in a 1-0 win over the Royals.
He struck out three. Pavano finished the top of the ninth walking into the dugout with game tied 0-0, but he was handed his ninth win of the season after Trevor Plouffe delivered a walk-off single. Pavano had an up-and-down season, finishing with a 4.30 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 33 starts. The most amazing part of his season is the fact that he threw 222 innings, one more than he threw last year. It's remarkable that he's suddenly turned into a workhorse given his previous injury issues. He's slated to make $8.5 million in 2012.

Sun Sep 25 201110:48Rockies want an innings-eater
Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd said his No. 1 priority over the offseason is to find an innings-eating starter.
"We're absolutely trying to find that 200-inning guy," O'Dowd said. "The Diamondbacks are going to have three guys who pitched over 200 innings, and that's huge. We realize we need to have a veteran guy who could give us those 34 or 35 starts." He'll have to get in line, as most teams covet workhorse starters. The Rockies put in a waiver claim on Wandy Rodriguez last month, and although they were unable to work out a deal for the lefty, they could revisit talks with Houston over the winter. They also have interest in the Twins' Carl Pavano.

Sun Sep 18 201117:34Pavano allows 4 runs (1 earned) in 6 1/3 inns
Carl Pavano allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday in Minnesota's 6-5 setback against the Indians.
He struck out six and walked one. It was actually a pretty solid outing by the veteran, who only made one real mistake -- a solo homer surrendered to Shelly Duncan in the seventh. Other than that, he gave up no extra-base hits and was done in by shoddy defense and uninspired bullpen pitching. Pavano, 8-13 with a 4.40 ERA, should be avoided in mixed leagues.

Pavano was lucky to allow just three runs in an outing where he had runners on base all night. In 70 innings since the All-Star break, he's posted a 5.27 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 32/13 K/BB ratio. He'll get the Royals in Kansas City next Wednesday.

Carl Pavano didn't have his best stuff against the Orioles on Monday, allowing four runs on nine hits in seven innings of a 4-1 Twins loss.

On the plus side, Pavano has now completed at least seven innings of work in four consecutive starts. Entering the game, he was the owner of a 2.01 ERA through 22 1/3 August frames. Sun Jul 31 201119:23Pavano ripped hard in loss
Carl Pavano got whacked for seven earned runs over four innings in a loss to the Athletics Sunday.
Yikes. When Pavano got lit up in Texas for eight earned on Tuesday, it was somewhat understandable. But this performance in a dream matchup at Oakland is concerning. Most owners should be looking for higher upside options.

Thu Jul 21 201123:07Pavano knocked around by Tigers
Carl Pavano couldn't keep the Tigers down Thursday, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings of work.
The biggest blown came in the form of a two-out, two run homer by Brennan Boesch in the fifth inning, as Pavano clearly didn't have his best stuff in this one. It's just the second time in the last nine starts that his outing hasn't been of the "quality" fashion, as he's really turned things around following a slow start. He'll bring a 4.24 ERA and 1.19 WHIP into next week's start against the Rangers.

Carl Pavano took a no-decision in Minnesota's 10-inning loss to the Mariners on Monday evening, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks in seven innings of work.
Pavano was actually in line for a win when departing, but watched Minnesota's bullpen blow a three-run lead before eventually taking the loss. Tonight can't be classified as a great outing for the veteran righty, but does mark the second consecutive start he's gone at least seven innings. He'll get the Angels at home this weekend.
