He gave up a first-inning run on a bases-loaded walk, but left the bases loaded in that frame and gave up only two more hits through his seven innings. He has gone at least seven in four straight starts. He has allowed all five earned runs in the first innings of those starts, with hitters 6-for-83 (.072) against him from the second inning on. "He gets into the rhythm of the game," manager John Farrell said. "Takes him an inning. Takes him an inning to find his release point. It's been uncanny how similar the beginning of games are and how he finishes out. To me it's finding that release point and then he stays out of the middle of the plate and then he gets the feel for that curveball, which is, as we've come to find out, that's a key pitch for him."

RHP Doug Fister is being tasked with helping the Red Sox avoid a three-game sweep in Wednesday's start against the Blue Jays. Fister (4-7, 4.19 ERA) is 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA while filling in for injured LHP David Price in the rotation. His numbers against the Blue Jays this season are not as impressive, with Fister going 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA over 9 1/3 innings in two previous outings this season. Overall, Fister is 2-3 with a 3.72 ERA in nine career starts versus the Blue Jays. Kendrys Morales is 9-for-27 with three home runs and five RBIs and Justin Smoak is 4-for-18 with two homers and four RBIs opposite Fister.

RHP Doug Fister continued to be a dependable option. He recorded 11 ground-ball outs while allowing one run and four hits in seven innings Friday. He is 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in his last six starts. Fister also completed seven innings in a third straight start for the first time since July 27-Aug. 17, 2014. "He pitches with such conviction," Boston manager John Farrell said. "You see it in his body language, you see it in his attack plan. He's got a clear understanding at what he's trying to do on the mound and that's a testament to the work he puts in, the preparation he goes through."

RHP Doug Fister tied a season-high with seven strikeouts in Sunday's loss against the Orioles. Fister (3-7, 4.53 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings. "I made a couple bad pitches and they made me pay for it in the first inning, and had to really make some adjustments," Fister said after giving up a pair of RBI doubles in the opening frame. After going 0-5 to start his Red Sox career, Fister has settled in and is 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA with 30 strikeouts in his last five starts, four of which have qualified as quality starts.

RHP Doug Fister seeks his fourth win in five starts Sunday against the Orioles. Fister (3-6, 4.78 ERA) has effectively turned around a disastrous start to his Red Sox career after losing his first five decisions with the team. Tuesday against the Indians, Fister tossed a complete-game one-hitter, allowing a leadoff homer to start the game but nothing else. He is 4-2 with a 4.47 ERA in nine career outings (eight starts) against the Orioles. Seth Smith is 2-for-12 with two home runs and four RBIs and Chris Davis is 5-for-15 with two homers and three RBIs lifetime versus Fister.

"He put on a clinic," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He worked quick, was real efficient, he pitched the way you're supposed to. He went right through us." It was Fister's eighth career complete game, his first since Sept. 26, 2014, with Washington, when he pitched a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Miami. Tuesday was the first one-hitter thrown by a Red Sox pitcher since Jon Lester threw one against Toronto on May 10, 2013.

RHP Doug Fister earned his first win in a Red Sox uniform, ended a personal 10-decision losing streak and may well have saved his spot in the rotation with a strong effort in Monday night's 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Fister, who came in 0-5 with a 7.46 ERA in seven appearances, four starts, had a shutout into the eighth but was lifted after allowing a two-run homer to Bradley Zimmer. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five in his first win since last Aug. 22. "He pitched a gem here tonight," manager John Farrell said. "We mentioned here the other day about the work he's been doing when he went to the bullpen, some adjustment that he's made to his stride direction that's allowed him to refine his release point. Tonight ... big effect by a big slow curveball in addition to a lot of sink to his fastball." As far as ending the streak, Fister said: "A long time coming. There's been a lot of trials and tribulations that come with it."

RHP Doug Fister hopes to get his season on track in Monday's start against the Indians. Fister (0-5, 7.46 ERA) has a track record of success against the Tribe, going 5-4 with a 3.13 ERA in 16 career starts. Fister's tenure with the Red Sox has been anything but successful -- including his last outing, allowing two runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief vs. the Mariners last Tuesday. Michael Brantley is 11-for-30 (.367) with two home runs and five RBIs lifetime against Fister.

RHP Doug Fister was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday. The veteran was signed by Boston in June to fill the No. 5 spot in the rotation when Eduardo Rodriguez was injured. He was 0-4 with a 7.89 ERA.

The Red Sox came out of the All-Star break using a six-man rotation, but decided to go back to five, and Fister was the odd man out. Only four runs were earned, two resulting from his error in Texas' three-run fourth. "It's a real tough pill to swallow tonight," Fister said. "At the cost of a team loss, especially the guys in the bullpen. They're taxed and I'm adding to that. That's a frustrating thing for me and I'm not getting my job done."

RHP Doug Fister was added to the 25-man roster ahead of his season debut and first start with the Red Sox on Sunday against the Angels. The 33-year-old veteran right-hander signed with the Angels in May, but failed to crack the starting rotation and opted for free agency last Wednesday. Before joining the Red Sox, Fister went 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in three starts with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. He is 3-3 with a 2.78 ERA in 12 career starts against the Angels. At Fenway Park, he is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in four prior starts.

RHP Doug Fister, who opted out of his minor league deal with the Angels this week, was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox from Los Angeles and will start against the Angels in the series finale Sunday. The veteran, reunited with Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski, pitched 15 2/3 innings and had a 4.02 ERA with Salt Lake. He is 77-76 with a 3.60 ERA pitching for four major league teams. Fister will become the 10th starter used by the Red Sox this season. "What I saw made me think he's going to be a tough guy to beat on Sunday," Angels RHP Huston Street, who had been rehabbing while Fister was at Salt Lake, told the Providence Journal. Said Dombrowski: "It gives us an established, winning pitcher who's been through postseason play, been through a pennant race."

RHP Doug Fister was released by the Angels on Wednesday. The Angels signed him May 22 and gave him opt-out clause of June 21. Fister was 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in three starts with Triple-A Salt Lake and figures to draw interest from teams in need of starting pitching.
