The Knicks might want to be give the 39-year-old guard some extra rest since back spasms could be a recurring problem at his age. He should be on benches and the injury knocks him from the must-own status.

Updating a previous report, Jason Kidd (back spasms) will not play in Monday's cross-town showdown with the Nets.

Felton has played shooting guard before and it's also encouraging to his value that the Knicks would use him in a two-PG set. Felton should come off the board several rounds earlier than Kidd.

That's saying something for the typically well-conditioned Kidd, whose basketball IQ and court vision make him seem ageless. He did miss 18 games last year, but should stay healthy while playing a smaller role behind Raymond Felton in New York -- don't forget that Kidd sat out a total of 11 games in six seasons between 2005-2011.

Jason Kidd intends to challenge his DWI charge from July, when he crashed his Escalade into a telephone pole while allegedly drunk.

The NBA will likely suspend Kidd for one game at some point, though any punitive action may be delayed until the DWI charges have been settled. The Knicks' new backup PG ranks second in NBA history in total assists (11,842), second in steals (2,559), and third in 3-pointers made (1,874).

That's a nice thought, but it's going to take more than a 39-year-old point guard to rejuvenate Stoudemire's game. We're not expecting a resurgence from Kidd after he averaged 6.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.6 treys on 36.3 percent shooting as a starter last season.
