Gibson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Tuesday and is slated to miss four months, Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Gibson dealt with the ankle injury late in the regular season, and it appears he may never have been close to full health during the Bulls' playoff run, as he also dealt with shoulder, knee and hamstring issues. The hope is that the procedure will prevent any future ankle problems, but the four-month timetable puts Gibson's status for the start of next season in jeopardy.

Gibson played in 62 games for the Bulls this season and averaged 10.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks a game.

Gibson averaged just over 27 minutes a game this season after averaging just under 29 minutes a game last season. He saw his scoring decrease by almost three points a game compared to last season as the Bulls didn't need to count on him for as much offense. It appeared Gibson was ticketed to start at power forward this season, but he was relegated to the bench yet again when the team brought in Pau Gasol. Both Gibson and Gasol have two years left on their contracts and with the emergence of Nikola Mirotic, Gibson might be on the move this summer. He will maintain limited fantasy value if he stays with the Bulls, but could really see a bump in production should he get traded to a team where he would start.

Gibson was ejected early in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's Game 5 after kicking Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova. Gibson started the game, and to that point, he had 10 rebounds (4-12 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and one block in 26 minutes.

Gibson was playing a fairly prominent role in Tuesday's game with Gasol () out and Noah struggling with foul trouble. He will likely be back for an important Game 6, and if Gasol should have to miss another game, Gibson could be in line to start once again.
