Asik scored eight points (4-7 FG) and added 11 rebounds and one assist against the Lakers on Sunday.
Asik is quietly effective if you need rebounds. He is owned in about 50 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues, so if you need rebounds you can count on Asik. He averages around a block a game for his career, but has been earning less than a block a game over his last seven games. If you need a big man to give you 10 rebounds and a block, Asik is your man.

Asik (back) will start at center Tuesday.
He will return from a four-game absence, as the Pelicans will need his post defense against DeMarcus Cousins on Tuesday.
Tue Nov 25 201418:41Asik (back) expected to play in Tuesday's game
Asik (back) is expected to play in Tuesday's game.
He has been made active for Tuesday's game, and should play as the Pelicans will surely want his post defense available against DeMarcus Cousins.
Mon Nov 24 201413:23Asik (back) partial participant in Monday's practice
Asik (back) was a partial participant in Monday's practice, the Times-Picayune's Nakia Hogan reports.
He has missed four straight games, and the Pelicans have really missed his presence. He should be considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Kings.
Sat Nov 22 201419:47Asik (back) out Saturday against Jazz
Asik (back) is out Saturday against the Jazz.
The Pelicans' next game is Tuesday against the Kings. Asik should be considered day-to-day, while Anthony Davis, Alexis Ajinca, and Jeff Withey see more usage.
Sat Nov 22 201413:35Omer Asik: (Back) Doubtful For Saturday
Asik (back) is considered doubtful for Saturday's game against the Jazz.
Asik was scheduled to play in Friday's game against the Nuggets but ultimately re-aggravated his lower back during warmups and sat out his third-straight game. If Asik stays sidelined Saturday, he will likely be replaced by Alexis Ajinca.
Fri Nov 21 201420:48Omer Asik: (Back) Late Scratch
Asik (back) re-aggravated his lower-back during warmups and has been ruled out for Friday's game.
Asik will be a late scratch Friday, meaning more minutes for Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis together in the frontcourt, and some run for Jeff Withey and Alexis Ajinca, but likely not enough to make them appealing plays in daily leagues. Consider Asik day-to-day.
Fri Nov 21 201419:38Omer Asik: (Back) Will Start Friday
Asik (back) will play and start in Friday's game against the Nuggets, the Times-Picayune reports.
Asik has been sidelined for two-straight games but will make his return Friday. It's still unclear whether or not he'll be given a full workload, but he's always a double-double threat, even in limited minutes.
Tue Nov 18 201421:14Asik (back) will not play Tuesday against Kings
Asik (back) will not play Tuesday against the Kings.
Asik continues to deal with a back injury, which will force him to sit for the second game in a row. In Monday's matchup against the Trail Blazers, Alexis Ajinca started in his place, so look for that to most likely be the case again. Also, Ryan Anderson will probably get extended playing time again, after notching 36 minutes off the bench Monday. Asik's next chance to play will be Friday against the Nuggets, but consider him as questionable.
Tue Nov 18 201416:51Asik (back) questionable for Tuesday's game against Sacramento
Asik (back) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Sacramento.
Asik sat out Monday's loss to Portland, enabling Alexis Ajinca to get the start in the frontcourt alongside Anthony Davis. Ajinca played only 16 minutes, however, while Ryan Anderson played a season-high 36 off the bench. If Asik is out again Tuesday, a similar minutes distribution should be expected.

Asik won't play Monday at Portland due to discomfort in his lower back, NBA.com reports.
Asik's absence opens the door for Ryan Anderson and Jeff Withey to enjoy expanded run, but the opening in the starting lineup may go to Withey, as the Pelicans must contend with the frontcourt duo of LaMarcus Aldridge (illness) and Robin Lopez. In the meantime, consider Asik questionable for Tuesday's game at Sacramento.

Asik is questionable for Monday's game against the Trail Blazers due to a sore lower back, The Times-Picayune reports.
A final decision on Asik's status will be made sometime before tip-off, so those considering using Asik on Monday should be sure to keep tabs on his status.

Asik scored 10 points (3-4 FG, 4-4 FT), with 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 28 minutes during Tuesday's win over the Hornets.
Asik is showing us exactly what he's capable of doing. He's not asked to score much, but he hauls in plenty of rebounds and finds a way to get his fair-share of points, making him an interesting fantasy option.

Asik was strong in his Pelicans debut, scoring 14 points, snatching 17 rebounds and blocking five shots.
Asik missed all three of his free throws, but made up for it with his 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. The big man logged a full compliment of minutes Tuesday night, and should continue to have success while playing alongside All-Star Anthony Davis. The former Rocket is in a position to thrive once again now that he is out of Dwight Howard's shadow.

Asik has made it clear his only goal this season is to rebound and defend, the Times-Picayune reports.
Asik has told coach Monty Williams on multiple occasions of his desire to stay in the offensive background and to simply rebound and play defense. With gunners like Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson in town, Asik should have no problem getting his wish. In his last season as a starter, Asik averaged a double-double with 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds. The points may not reach that high this season if Asik is truly ignoring offense, but the rebounds should be plentiful for the Turkish big man. Additionally, with Asik out of the way, Davis should have plenty of room to operate in the paint this season.
Tue Jul 15 201413:24Pelicans finalize deal to land Omer Asik
The NBA has officially approved the trade between the Pelicans, Wizards, and Rockets that will send Omer Asik to New Orleans.
The deal will go down as a three-team trade that sends Asik, Omri Casspi and $1.5 million to New Orleans, Trevor Ariza, Alonzo Gee, Scotty Hopson, and New Orleans' protected first-round pick in 2015 to Houston, and Melvin Ely and a $8.5 million trade exception to Washington. Asik only averaged 5.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 2013-14, but he should serve a solid late-round pick with his numbers poised to see a boost in New Orleans.

Wed Jun 25 201422:13Report: Omer Asik being dealt to Pelicans
Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Rockets are set to deal C Omer Asik to the Pelicans.
That means this should be a done deal, although we're waiting to hear the details about who the Pels are giving up. New Orleans has had a lot of injury problems at center, but the arrival of Asik should help put an end to that. Look for him to start alongside Anthony Randolph next season, and look for his fantasy value to take a nice jump now that he no longer has to deal with Dwight Howard.

Mon Jun 23 201400:46Rockets could deal Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin
Sam Amick is reporting that the Rockets have deals lined up for both C Omer Asik and PG Jeremy Lin, but they only want to move them if they have a shot at landing Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James.
Every team in the league seems to have interest in Melo and LeBron, so whether the Rockets will be able to land either star remains in doubt. But it does sound like they have a plan in place in case either player wants to go play in Houston with Dwight Howard and James Harden.

Sat Apr 26 201402:18Omer Asik scores seven in starting lineup
Omer Asik started against the Blazers in Game 3 on Friday, finishing with seven points, eight boards, two assists and one block
He guarded LaMarcus Aldridge for much of this game and did a decent job, keeping him near the baseline rather than in the high post. Asik will likely start again on Sunday night.

Fri Apr 25 201421:23Omer Asik starting in place of Terrence Jones
Omer Asik will start at power forward against the Blazers on Friday night.
This will move Terrence Jones to the bench and it's mostly due to LaMarcus Aldridge having a field day in the first two games of this series. Asik fared better than Jones in both games and it'll be interesting to see how much of an overhaul the Rockets' rotation gets tonight.
