Morneau, who signed a one-year contract with the White Sox this season, is coming back from offseason elbow surgery. He went 0-for-2 in his first action since last season and isn't expected back until sometime after the All-Star Game. "The timing is the most important thing," Morneau said. "You know, see pitches. The results, at this point I'm not too worried about that."

With the Rockies playing back-to-back day games, Morneau will sit out in the season finale, as Wilin Rosario gets the call at first base. An unrestricted free agent this offseason, Morneau may pursue retirement, as his age (34) and extensive injury history don't figure to result in him receiving many attractive offers.

Morneau is not in Thursday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

The Rockies will stack right-handed bats in the lineup as the Diamondbacks send southpaw Patrick Corbin to the mound Thursday, leaving Morneau, Carlos Gonzalez and Corey Dickerson on the bench. Wilin Rosario will replace him at first base Thursday, batting cleanup.

Morneau is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

The Rockies have been resting Morneau fairly regularly since his return from the 60-day DL earlier this month, so it's no surprise he'll take a seat for a day game after a night game. Wilin Rosario gets the call at first base for the series finale.

Morneau went 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, and an RBI in Saturday's win over the Dodgers.

Though he's received frequent days off since returning from the disabled list Sept. 4, Morneau has been fantastic for the Rockies in the season's final month. He's gone 20-for-52 (.385) at the plate in September, demonstrating that he still has something left in tank at age 34.

Morneau is out of the lineup Thursday, the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports.

The Rockies will give Morneau the day off against lefty Jeff Locke on Thursday. Wilin Rosario will start at first base and hit cleanup.
