Tue Jan 18 2011 | 15:00 | Cubs agree to pre-arb. deal with Marshall |
Cubs signed LHP Sean Marshall to a two-year, $4.7 million contract extension. |
The deal will buy out Marshall's final two seasons of arbitration eligibility and will pay him $1.6 million in 2011 and $3.1 million in 2012. He is moving to the starting rotation this season and should do quite well. The lefty has always boasted a crafty arsenal of pitches and he finished the 2010 season with a 2.34 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 61 2/3 innings. |

Tue Aug 17 2010 | 08:53 | Cubs' Marshall would OK move to rotation |
Sean Marshall told reporters Monday that he would be open to moving to the starting rotation next season. |
It'll be up to the Cubs' next manager to make that decision, but a role change certainly seems like a good idea. Marshall has been excellent in relief this season, posting a 2.34 ERA, 74/20 K/BB ratio and 1.09 WHIP over 61 2/3 innings. He's started in the past and deserves another look. |
