RHP Josh Fields was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Fields has tossed scoreless relief in eight of 11 outings since the Dodgers acquired him from the Houston Astros on July 31 in exchange for a minor leaguer.

His third major-league season has been his best by far, as Fields has posted a 2.20 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 43 appearances this year after posting ERA in the mid-to-high 4.00s the last two seasons. Fields has a 13-game scoreless streak going, with just four hits and two walks allowed over that span. As good as his ratios have been, though, his utility will be limited mostly to leagues that count holds.

Fields has performed well out of the bullpen of late, as he hasn't surrendered a run in his last 13 appearances while maintaining a 2.20 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season. It looks as though the Astros simply want to get a look at another option, and they recalled Vince Velasquez from Double-A to assume Fields' roster spot.

Through 33 appearances with the Astros this season, Fields (3-1) has a 2.78 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 44:13 K:BB ratio over 32.1 innings.

Fields is no stranger from pitching in high-leverage situations with nine career saves on his resume, but he likely won't see any save opportunities this season with Luke Gregerson, Pat Neshek and Chad Qualls all pitching well for the Astros. Despite this, the 29-year-old reliever has posted career-best numbers across the board thus far, including an impressive 12.25 K/9.

Fields struck out two over 1.1 perfect frames during Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

Fields lowered his ERA to 0.77 with his 11th consecutive scoreless appearance out of the bullpen for the Astros. He holds a 20:3 K:BB ratio over 11.2 innings this season.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Fields (leg) is available out of the bullpen Sunday against the Tigers, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Hinch noted that Fields was ready to go Saturday if needed, but an excellent start from Lance McCullers made the reliever's services unnecessary. Fields has been dynamic while working in a setup role for the Astros this season, posting a 0.96 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a 16:3 K:BB ratio over 9.1 innings.

Fields has a bruised right leg and initial X-rays came back negative.

Fields faced just two batters before being removed from Thursday's game after getting hit in the leg on a line drive and appeared to be visibly in pain as he left the field. So far the initial reports are encouraging, but there's still no clear timetable for how much time Fields may have to miss at this point.

Fields induced two fly balls out in two-thirds of an inning and lowered his ERA to 1.35 with the scoreless appearance.
