Sun Aug 17 201416:59Elias will return to Mariners to start Monday against Phillies
Elias will return to the Mariners to start Monday against the Phillies, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News-Tribune reports.
Elias picked up a victory to even his record at 9-9 during his last start August 7, but was sent back to the minors afterwards, as the Mariners are trying to monitor his innings. He may have a few starts left this season, but the team likely won't push him to do too much if he ends up making the playoffs. The 26-year-old has been relatively effective during his time in the majors, owning a 4.14 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 122:48 K:BB ratio over 134.2 innings.
Tue Aug 12 201419:08Elias will pitch 3-to-4 innings for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday
Elias will pitch 3-to-4 innings for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, setting him up for a return to Seattle's rotation on Aug. 19 against the Phillies, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
He has had a middling rookie campaign, posting a 4.14 ERA in 23 starts for the Mariners. After a horrible July (6.27 ERA), Elias has bounced back and posted a 2.38 ERA in two August starts, and could be a solid option in deep leagues against a sub-par Phillies lineup.

Elias was optioned to Triple-A after he picked up his ninth win of the season Thursday night, the Associated Press reports.
The Mariners are simply trying to monitor Elias' innings closely, and he's expected to return to the team during their upcoming series against the Phillies. With 134.2 innings under his belt, Elias may be limited to 30-35 more frames during the final two months of the season after he finished with 130 innings at Double-A Jackson in 2013.

Elias was solid Friday night, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits, walking one and striking out seven over 5.2 innings but was saddled with a loss against the Orioles.
That's three effective outings in a row for Elias (8-9, 4,19 ERA) since the All-Star break and should further help solidify his position in the Mariners' rotation with James Paxton and Taijuan Walker knocking on the door. He'll get the White Sox at home in his next scheduled start.
Sun Jul 27 201420:39Elias gives up one run over five against O's
Roenis Elias allowed one run over five innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Sunday.
Elias gave up four hits and walked three on the day while striking out six. The lefty has now turned in two straight starts with one run allowed after hitting a rough patch earlier this month. It all adds up to a 4.31 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 110/45 K/BB ratio over 123 1/3 innings. He'll draw the same Orioles squad his next time out when the Mariners visit Baltimore on Saturday.

Tue Jul 22 201421:48Roenis Elias (forearm) 'checked out fine'
Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said that Roenis Elias "checked out fine" Tuesday after exiting Monday's start with a left forearm cramp.
Elias left the outing after 90 pitches when he cramped up, but it sounds like he'll be fine. The left-hander will start this weekend against the Orioles.

Tue Jul 22 201400:26Elias leaves with forearm cramp, K's eight
Roenis Elias left with a forearm cramp on Monday, but not before striking out eight and allowing one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Mets.
The Mariners were just being cautious with their young left-hander -- he was at 90 pitches and would have been pulled after the inning anyway -- and it would be surprising if his next start were pushed back. Elias needed a positive outing to prevent talk of a demotion, and he got it, tying for his second highest strikeout total of the season. All shouldn't be forgiven -- the 25-year-old left-hander was 0-3 while getting lit up for a 10.05 ERA over his previous three outings, and had coughed up four runs or more in five of seven to close out the first half -- but he just bought himself some leash. Assuming the injury isn't more serious than the team is letting on, Elias hosts the Orioles this weekend.

Mon Jul 21 201423:58Roenis Elias exits with apparent arm injury
Roenis Elias left Monday's game against the Mets with an apparent arm injury.
Elias was visited by the trainer and seem stretching out his fingers/hand, so he could be dealing with some tightness in his forearm. The Mariners should provide more on his status shortly. Elias allowed one run while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings before exiting.

Thu Jul 10 201401:34Elias allows 6 ER on 7 hits in loss to Twins
Roenis Elias was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday.
Elias boasted a 3.74 ERA heading into play on June 28, but he's one player thrilled to have a few days away from the game next week. The young left-hander has yielded 16 earned runs in 14 1/3 innings (10.05 ERA) to lose back-to-back-back starts, and he tied his season-low in innings pitched tonight in his most recent nightmare. Elias threw 141 and 130 innings over the past two years, respectively, and had never pitched above Double-A until this season. At 112-plus frames, his workload might be catching up to him. It's also possible that a league of ferocious hitters has started to handle his decent-but-not great arsenal after getting a handle on it; Elias' nasty curveball isn't as effective if batters aren't forced to offer at it, and they don't have to if they get ahead in the count. Elias finishes his first half-season in the big leagues with a 7-8 record, 4.54 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 96/40 K/BB rate over 113 innings.

Roenis Elias was tagged for five runs over five innings Friday in a loss to the White Sox.
Elias held the White Sox scoreless over the first three innings, but gave up a solo homer to Dayan Viciedo in the fourth and a four-spot in the fifth. He has now allowed 10 runs in 11 innings over his last two starts, bring his ERA up from 3.74 to 4.19 on the year. He'll attempt to get back in the win column next week against the Twins at home.

Roenis Elias allowed one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Royals on Sunday.
Elias walked two and struck out five in the outing. The lefty has won four of his last five starts, as he owns a respectable 7-5 record, 3.74 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 16 starts. Elias will look to continue his strong first half Saturday at the Indians.

Tue Jun 17 201419:40Roenis Elias twirls gem against Padres
Roenis Elias allowed just three hits while spinning seven innings of one-run ball in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Padres.
He struck out six on the day and didn't issue a walk. Just about everyone is shutting down the Padres these days, but it was still a nice and much-needed effort from the young left-hander after he was scorched for 10 runs over his previous two starts. He'll take a 3.91 ERA into Kansas City this weekend.

Fri Jun 13 201401:07Elias blasted for 6 ER in loss to Yankees
Roenis Elias was whipped for six runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Yankees.
Elias has allowed 10 runs over his last two starts, which has spiked his ERA from 3.53 to 4.13. The Guantanamo, Cuba native just didn't have it tonight, starting from the beginning when Jacob Ellsbury corked a two-run homer in the first inning. He struck out four and walked three. Elias has a superb opportunity to bounce back when he welcomes the Padres' futile offense to Seattle next week.

Sat Jun 7 201420:40Roenis Elias earns win over Rays
Roenis Elias allowed four runs over 7 2/3 innings and struck out five Saturday in a win over the Rays.
It was two runs through seven, but Desmond Jennings doubled and Evan Longoria homered off him in the eighth. James Loney also took him deep earlier in the game, becoming just the second lefty to do so this season. Elias doesn't have top-notch stuff, but he does everything pretty well (for instance, the league has attempted just one steal against him this year). He has a good chance to last as an asset.

Sun Jun 1 201419:10Roenis Elias fans 8 in first career shutout
Roenis Elias delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday, recording his first career shutout after allowing just three hits and a walk over nine scoreless innings against the Tigers.
Elias racked up eight strikeouts in the impressive afternoon. He has been impressive through 12 starts as a member of the Mariners rotation, compiling a 3.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 65/27 K/BB ratio over 74 innings. He will look to replicate this dominant effort when he does battle against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Wed May 28 201401:16Elias allows 5 ER on 8 hits in loss to Halos
Roenis Elias was roughed up for five runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday as the Mariners fell to the Angels.
The rookie southpaw whiffed five and issued one free pass. He wasn't terrible outside of the second inning, but that frame hurt; Elias was ripped all over the park for four doubles that converted into three runs. The Guantanamo, Cuba native and usable AL-only hurler falls to 3-4 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Elias faces off opposite a struggling Max Scherzer this weekend.

Fri May 23 201401:23Elias allows only 1 run on 3 hits vs. Astros
Roenis Elias yielded only one run on three hits over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday as the Mariners defeated the Astros.
Elias struck out six and issued four free passes in the no-decision. He was highly inefficient -- which cost him the win -- but was able to avoid damage outside of Jose Altuve's home run on the first pitch of the game. The 25-year-old Cuban brings a 3.68 ERA and 1.33 WHIP into a date with the Angels next week.

Sun May 11 201421:05Elias allows nine hits in no-decision vs. KC
Roenis Elias allowed five runs -- three earned -- on nine hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Sunday.
Despite the subpar outing, Elias actually left in line for his fourth win before Danny Farquhar imploded. The big damage done against Elias was a grand slam off the bat of Alcides Escobar. He also struck out five while walking one. With the outing, Elias has a 3.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP heading into his start Saturday at the Twins.

Wed May 7 201401:45Elias collects 2nd straight QS in victory
Roenis Elias turned in his second consecutive quality start Tuesday against the A's, allowing three runs on five hits in 6 1/3 frames as Seattle topped Oakland.
Elias, a surprise entrant into Seattle's Opening Day rotation, has gone right along surprising. The 25-year-old struck out six tonight, the third straight outing he's whiffed at least that many. He improves to 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over seven starts. The rookie toes the rubber in Seattle against the Royals on Sunday.

Thursday's outing was the 25-year-old's finest of the season, representing the first time he successfully made it through the seventh inning in six starts. Overall, the right-hander allowed six hits and walked two while striking out ten. Elias will face the hot-hitting Athletics in Oakland next, which will be a big test for the Mariners' hurler.
