Roenis Elias allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision versus the Rangers.

Elias bounced back from last week's shellacking by the Marlins with his fourth decent effort in five starts. He hasn't pitched deep into games -- he's made it six full innings just once -- but he has given the Mariners a chance to win. With Hisashi Iwakuma now likely to get Erasmo Ramirez's rotation spot, it looks like Elias's place is safe for at least the next month.

Roenis Elias was shelled for six runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Saturday as the Mariners fell to the Marlins.

Elias didn't have much working and wound up yielding eight hits and issuing five walks in his five-plus frames. The 25-year-old left-hander watched his ERA jump from 2.16 to 3.22, and he'll carry a 1-2 record into his next scheduled outing at home against the Rangers. It's one to avoid for fantasy purposes.

He's got a tough matchup next time out in Texas.

Elias secured his inclusion in the Opening Day rotation in much the same way this spring, posting a nice 2.38 ERA to go with an ugly 13/10 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. Of course, he also needed both Hisashi Iwakuma and Taijuan Walker to be injured. The 25-year-old Cuban can be used in deeper AL-only formats as long as he has a rotation spot and the matchup isn't horrendous. On the latter issue, he has a decent one next week playing host to the Angels.
