Sat Apr 26 201401:55Roenis Elias allows three runs to Rangers
Roenis Elias allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision versus the Rangers.
Elias bounced back from last week's shellacking by the Marlins with his fourth decent effort in five starts. He hasn't pitched deep into games -- he's made it six full innings just once -- but he has given the Mariners a chance to win. With Hisashi Iwakuma now likely to get Erasmo Ramirez's rotation spot, it looks like Elias's place is safe for at least the next month.

Sat Apr 19 201421:38Elias allows six runs in loss to the Marlins
Roenis Elias was shelled for six runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Saturday as the Mariners fell to the Marlins.
Elias didn't have much working and wound up yielding eight hits and issuing five walks in his five-plus frames. The 25-year-old left-hander watched his ERA jump from 2.16 to 3.22, and he'll carry a 1-2 record into his next scheduled outing at home against the Rangers. It's one to avoid for fantasy purposes.

Tue Apr 15 201400:06Roenis Elias earns first major league victory
Roenis Elias picked up his first major league victory by limiting the Rangers to one run in 6 2/3 innings on Monday night.
Elias pitched well enough to win his first two starts, but the Mariners scored a total of two runs in those games. They gave Elias seven runs to work with tonight, and he never made them sweat it. Now Elias has a 2.16 ERA after three starts, though that comes with a modest 10/6 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings. He's not someone to pick up in mixed leagues.

Thu Apr 10 201401:06SP Elias allows only 2 runs but takes loss
Roenis Elias held steady in defeat Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings in a 2-0 setback against the Angels.
Elias struck out two and issued one free pass. The 25-year-old Cuban would have matched the zeroes Garrett Richards was putting up if he could have recorded the last out of the third inning. Alas, Albert Pujols whacked his 0-1 offering over the left field fence for the game's only runs. Elias has allowed three runs over 10 innings (2.70 ERA) over his first two starts. He's got a tough matchup next time out in Texas.

Fri Apr 4 201402:14Elias allows only 1 run on 2 hits in debut
Roenis Elias impressed in his major league debut, holding the A's to two hits and one run over five innings of a no-decision on Thursday.
The rookie southpaw fanned three and issued a trio of free passes. Elias secured his inclusion in the Opening Day rotation in much the same way this spring, posting a nice 2.38 ERA to go with an ugly 13/10 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. Of course, he also needed both Hisashi Iwakuma and Taijuan Walker to be injured. The 25-year-old Cuban can be used in deeper AL-only formats as long as he has a rotation spot and the matchup isn't horrendous. On the latter issue, he has a decent one next week playing host to the Angels.

Sun Mar 30 201409:35Roenis Elias has contract purchased
Mariners purchased the contract of LHP Roenis Elias from Double-A Jackson.
Elias won a spot in the Mariners' rotation by putting up a 2.38 ERA this spring, though it did come along with a 13/10 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 frames. He shouldn't be relied on as a fantasy option in the early going.
