The two sides are also reportedly working on a multi-year extension. The 33-year-old outfielder slashed .251/.327/.402 with eight homers and 38 RBI in 122 games on the 2013 season, including .260/.328/.413 in 35 games with the Rays. They could have opted to pay him a $1.5 million buyout and attempt to re-sign him at a lesser rate, but the organization wanted to ensure they could bring him back. David DeJesus went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Yankees.
DeJesus went 4-for-7 in his first two games with the Rays over the weekend, which means his tenure in Tampa Bay has already been exponentially more successful than his stint with the Nationals (0-for-3 in three games).
