Sat May 3 201401:09Bronson Arroyo combines on shutout
Bronson Arroyo pitched three-hit ball for seven innings and combined with Brad Ziegler and Addison Reed on a 2-0 shutout of the Padres on Friday.
It's the fifth time in 30 games that the Padres have been shut out this season, and this time, it was a guy with a 7.77 ERA that did it to them. Arroyo has now turned in two quality starts in a row after opening up with a 9.50 ERA in his first four outings. We'd be more optimistic about the turnaround if his K rate weren't so down (16 in 31 1/3 IP). He did fan six tonight, but it was against a comatose offense.

Sat Apr 26 201423:25Arroyo goes six-plus strong, but D'Backs fall
Bronson Arroyo tossed 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball Saturday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
It was by far his best outing since joining the D'Backs, but the Phillies were able to rally for four runs in the eighth inning to grab the late victory. Arizona is now 8-19 on the year. Arroyo dropped his ERA from 9.50 to 7.77.

Tue Apr 22 201400:03Bronson Arroyo gives up five runs to Cubs
Bronson Arroyo had another rough outing Monday, giving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs.
Arroyo had a 129/35 K/BB ratio in 202 IP in 2012. He had a 124/34 K/BB ratio in 202 IP in 2013. This year, he has an 8/7 K/BB in 18 innings. He should figure this out and go back to being his usual averagish self, but it's not like he has much fantasy upside anyway. He's just lucky he's making $10 million; he's thrown worse than Trevor Cahill and Randall Delgado, both of whom have already been banished to the pen.

Wed Apr 16 201400:33Arroyo (9.95 ERA) flogged for 9 runs by Mets
Bronson Arroyo was lit up by the Mets for nine runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings of a 9-0 loss on Tuesday.
He threw 64 batting practice pitches, basically. It's bad enough that GM Kevin Towers is already feeling buyer's remorse three starts into Arroyo's Arizona career without considering that the rest of the rotation has done their best pitching machine impersonations thus far as well. Arroyo now owns a 9.95 ERA, while the Snakes staff as a whole has posted a 7.71 ERA. This is why Arizona is 4-13 overall, and 1-10 at the launching pad known as Chase Field. This Diamondbacks squad is taking on water, and it'll be interesting to see how Towers decides to go about draining the hull. Either way, even against the Cubs, you want nothing to do with Arroyo even in an All-Bronson league next time out. Make him prove it first.

Thu Apr 10 201401:16Arroyo allows 3 runs in win over SF Giants
Bronson Arroyo surrendered three runs on six hits over five innings in Wednesday's 7-3 victory over the Giants.
The right-hander allowed a pair of round-trippers -- to Mike Morse and Buster Posey, respectively -- but was able to hang in there for the win because his teammates were busy battering Tim Lincecum all over AT&T Park. Arroyo exits his first two starts, both against San Francisco, with a 1-0 record, 4.82 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. He gets the Mets next week.

Thu Apr 3 201419:36Bronson Arroyo struggles in D'Backs debut
Bronson Arroyo lasted just 4 1/3 innings in his Diamondbacks' debut Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.
Arroyo was at 82 pitches, and after a spring training shortened by a back injury, manager Kirk Gibson decided that was enough. The right-hander lasted less than 4 1/3 frames just three times in 32 starts for the Reds last season. He'll try to bounce back next week in a rematch versus the Giants.

Sat Mar 29 201419:45Arroyo surrenders two runs in final ST start
Bronson Arroyo allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Cubs in his final spring start Saturday.
It was an Arroyo-like stat line, as the right-hander gave up six hits and a walk but limited the damage to just two runs. He leaves spring with a 3.52 ERA in just 7 2/3 official innings of work. After dealing with a bulging disk in his back earlier in spring, the 37-year-old should be ready to go for the regular season.

Mon Mar 17 201408:59Bronson Arroyo feels good during 'pen session
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said that Bronson Arroyo (back) "felt great" during a bullpens session Sunday.
Arroyo has been nursing a bulging disk in his back, but it finally loosened up on him a couple days ago. "He felt great, threw it a little bit extra," Gibson said. "Both fastballs and curveballs." Arroyo will throw three innings and 45 pitches in a simulated game on Wednesday and could appear in a minor league game after that. He should be able to avoid the disabled list as long as he doesn't have a setback.

Tue Mar 11 201410:22Arroyo (back) still sore after playing catch
Bronson Arroyo (back) remained sore and stiff after playing catch Monday.
"The longer it goes on, the more he gets pushed back," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "We'll wait and see. It's been slow." The veteran import has been sidelined with a bulging disk for essentially the entirety of Diamondbacks' camp. Arroyo hopes to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, which would aid in his goal of being ready for the start of the regular season. "It's driving me nuts today to tell you the truth," Arroyo said. "Everybody around here is like no hurry, no hurry, but I've got a time clock in my head, and to me, it's like a time bomb going off if I don't get this thing right." Arizona has to be a little miffed, as Arroyo has never missed a regular-season start due to injury.

Sun Mar 9 201413:55Arroyo (back) hoping to return on Friday
Bronson Arroyo (back) is hoping to return to Cactus League action on Friday.
Arroyo admitted to not feeling that great while playing catch Saturday but reported improvement Sunday. He was given an epidural for the bulging disc in his back last week and thinks he still has time to get ready for Opening Day. Arroyo inked a two-year deal with the D'Backs in February.

Fri Mar 7 201412:54Bronson Arroyo (back) receives epidural
Bronson Arroyo has been given an epidural for the bulging disc in his back.
Arroyo won't travel with the Diamondbacks to Australia for their two games on March 22-23, but he expects to be available when the team returns to the states. The veteran right-hander has yet to spend a day on the disabled list in his career, so it would take a significant setback for him to not be ready.

Thu Mar 6 201410:20Bronson Arroyo diagnosed with bulging disk
Bronson Arroyo has been diagnosed with a bulging disk.
Arroyo was scratched from his turn in the Diamondbacks' Cactus League rotation on Tuesday due to back stiffness and an MRI taken Wednesday showed the injury. The veteran right-hander is hoping to return to action in 7-10 days and should still be fine for the start of the 2014 regular season if he meets that goal. It's a bulging disk, not the much-more-serious herniated disk.

Tue Mar 4 201408:49Arroyo scratched Tuesday due to stiff back
Bronson Arroyo has been scratched from his scheduled Tuesday start due to back stiffness.
It would have been his second Cactus League outing. The Diamondbacks aren't too concerned at this point. "I think it's something that he's had before and it's just kind of resolved itself," manager Kirk Gibson said. "That's what we're thinking this is, as well."

Thu Feb 27 201418:08Arroyo allows two runs in start vs. Cubs
Bronson Arroyo allowed two runs in three innings of work as the D'Backs went on to defeat the Cubs 5-2 on Thursday.
Only one of the runs was earned, but he allowed three hits and a walk while only striking out one. Arroyo, who joined the D'Backs just two weeks ago, will serve as the #2 behind Patrick Corbin in Arizona's rotation. He has finished each of the past two seasons with an ERA below 3.80 in over 200 innings.

Tue Feb 11 201422:29Bronson Arroyo passes D'Backs physical
Diamondbacks signed RHP Bronson Arroyo to a two-year, $19 million contract.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal passed along the news that Arroyo has passed his physical, which makes the deal official. The contract also includes an $11 million option for 2016 with a $4.5 million buyout, which means the veteran righty will be guaranteed at least $23.5 million. Arroyo posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last season for the Reds.

Fri Feb 7 201416:57Diamondbacks sign veteran Bronson Arroyo
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks have signed Bronson Arroyo.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says the deal is for two years with an option for a third season. The financials are not yet known. Chase Field isn't the best landing spot for the flyball-prone Arroyo, but neither was Great American Ball Park and he did just fine there. The signing of Arroyo presumably pushes Randall Delgado to the bullpen and also could delay the potential arrival of Archie Bradley.

Fri Feb 7 201413:45Arroyo likely to sign with Dodgers or D'Backs
Jim Bowden of SiriusXM hears that Bronson Arroyo is expected to sign soon with either the Diamondbacks or Dodgers.
The Orioles have also been mentioned among Arroyo's finalists and he prefers to be on the East Coast, but they're evidently not willing to offer him what he wants. The veteran right-hander reportedly has backed off his demand for a three-year deal, which should result in him catching on with someone quickly. He posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last season for the Reds.

Thu Feb 6 201421:27Orioles 'active' in negotiations with Arroyo
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles "continue to be in active negotiations" with Bronson Arroyo.
The Dodgers and Diamondbacks are also hot on Arroyo's trail. The veteran right-hander has lasted much longer than expected on the open market, but he should move quickly now that he's reportedly dropped his demands to a two-year offer. Arroyo posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last season for the Reds.

Thu Feb 6 201408:45Arroyo lowers asking price: 2 years, $22 mil
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Bronson Arroyo is no longer demanding a three-year deal.
The veteran right-hander is now seeking something closer to two years at $22 million. The Diamondbacks, Dodgers and Orioles are believed to be the primary contenders for Arroyo, who posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last season for the Reds and has been the most durable pitcher in baseball over the past nine years. He should be signing a contract soon.

Wed Feb 5 201421:51Diamondbacks, Bronson Arroyo planning to meet
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe hears the Diamondbacks are planning a meeting with free agent Bronson Arroyo.
Cafardo also says the team is "very serious" about their interest in the right-hander. Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers has been outspoken all offseason about his desire to acquire a frontline starter, but the 36-year-old would represent something closer to a mid-rotation starter for Arizona. It would also be a bit confusing why the team, with big-time prospect Archie Bradley and 2013 first-round pick Braden Shipley in the pipeline, would give Arroyo the three-year deal he's said to be seeking. The Dodgers and Orioles are two other clubs said to be in on the right-hander.
