The 27-year-old hurler struck out two without issuing a walk in the contest. He now owns a 3.78 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio through 16 1/3 innings on the spring. He could begin the season as the fifth starter in the Cubs rotation while Jake Arrieta works his way back from injury.

Wed Sep 25 201300:24Rusin lasts just 2 1/3 innings in loss to PIT
Chris Rusin allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
Rusin allowed six hits, including a Jordy Mercer home run, and one walk while striking out one on Tuesday. The wheels really fell off for Rusin down the stretch -- the left-hander owned a 2.85 ERA on September 12, but a clunker against the Brewers and his protracted start on Tuesday leaves him with a 3.93 ERA to end the season. He'll finish the year with a 2-6 record.

Wed Sep 18 201323:04Rusin allows six runs in short start vs. MIL
Chris Rusin allowed six runs over four innings in a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.
Rusin has generally been good for the Cubs this year, but the Brewers got to him for a five-run first inning on Wednesday. The big blow was a grand slam off the bat of Sean Halton, but Rusin also gave up a home run to Khris Davis before exiting. The clunker took his ERA from 2.85 to 3.52 through 12 starts. He's got another tough assignment next week against the Pirates.

Sat Aug 31 201319:44Chris Rusin yields three runs in no-decision
Crhis Rusin gave up three runs -- two earned -- over five innings Saturday in a no-decision vs. the Phillies.
Rusin walked three and allowed three hits -- including a second-inning home run to Kevin Frandsen. The left-hander has been good overall since taking Matt Garza's rotation spot but he's not a recommended fantasy option outside of NL-only formats. He gets the Brewers next time out.

Chris Rusin allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Nationals on Tuesday.
Rusin was actually fortunate to escape without further damage, as he allowed 10 hits and two walks on the night. It was an unorthodox route, but the southpaw has now allowed two runs or fewer in three straight starts. Despite the 3.08 ERA in seven starts this year, Rusin is 2-3 heading into his start against the Padres at Petco Park on Sunday.

Wed Aug 14 201317:22Chris Rusin takes tough loss to Reds
Chris Rusin took a loss after allowing two runs and three hits in six innings against the Reds on Wednesday.
It's the fourth time in five starts since he was called up on July 22 that he's allowed two or fewer runs. Rusin lacks overwhelming stuff, but he's done excellent work in keeping NL hitters off balance. Mixed leaguers may want to give him a whirl with a home start against the Nats and a road start versus the Padres up next week.

Sat Aug 10 201300:00Rusin spins six scoreless in win over Cards
Chris Rusin spun six scoreless innings in Friday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals.
It was an impressive and surprising outing against a tough lineup. Rusin scattered seven hits and walked two batters (both intentional) while notching five strikeouts. The 26-year-old southpaw now owns a 3.08 ERA and 18/9 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 innings through his first five starts with the Cubs this season. However, we wouldn't rush to the waiver wire in mixed leagues, especially with a start against the Reds on tap for next week.

Fri Aug 2 201300:28Chris Rusin takes first loss to Dodgers
Chris Rusin surrendered four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Rusin was pulled with a 3-2 lead after giving up a single and a walk to start the sixth. Michael Bowden took over and allowed both inherited runners to score before giving up one run of his own. That put Rusin in line for his first loss in four starts this season. He's still looking like a decent enough play in NL-only leagues for now.

Sun Jul 28 201300:19Chris Rusin goes seven scoreless
Chris Rusin blanked the Giants for seven innings, allowing just three hits, on Saturday night.
The Cubs have picked up Jake Arrieta and Justin Grimm in trades, but they opted to give Rusin the first look in the fifth spot in their rotation and it's looking like a great decision so far, as he's allowed two runs over 12 innings in his two starts. There's nothing about Rusin's arsenal that stands out, but since he's on a roll, he's worth trying in NL-only leagues.

Tue Jul 23 201301:07Chris Rusin picks up win over Arizona
Chris Rusin notched a victory after allowing two runs in five innings Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Making a spot start in place of the traded Matt Garza, Rusin made a case for staying in the rotation. The Cubs, though, have newcomers Justin Grimm and Jake Arrieta to plug in if they so choose. Rusin might prove adequate if given the chance, but the other two both have more upside.
