Tue Dec 21 201010:37A's ink RHP Rich Harden to $1.5M contract
Athletics signed RHP Rich Harden to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
Harden can earn another $1.5 million via performance-based incentives. The 29-year-old righty posted an ugly 5.58 ERA and 75/62 K/BB ratio over 92 innings for Texas this past season, but he still has a nasty arsenal of pitchers and should fare better in Oakland's more spacious ballpark.
Wed Dec 15 201014:03Harden won't be completed for several days
The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports that the A's deal with Rick Harden isn't expected to be completed for several more days.
The A's are waiting for Harden to pass a physical, and given his medical history, it's no given that he'll be able to do so. He dealt with shoulder tendinitis and also a strained gluteal muscle in 2010. Harden is reportedly being viewed as a bullpen option for the A's, who not surprisingly don't think he has a good chance to hold up as a starter.

Wed Dec 15 201010:33Report: Harden unlikely to sign with Rockies
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies are convinced that Rich Harden is signing elsewhere.
The Rockies pursued Harden as a reliever, but he is receiving strong interest from the Athletics, among other clubs. Harden, 29, will likely have to accept an incentive-laden one-year deal after posting a career-worst 5.58 ERA over 20 games (18 starts) with the Rangers this past season.

Tue Dec 14 201019:05Harden may have better offers than A's
A source tells Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that the Athletics have talked to Rich Harden, but it appears that he may have better offers elsewhere.
Troy Renck of the Denver Post heard that Harden was signing with the A's, but it appears that report was premature. As Slusser notes, the timing is curious, given that the A's just signed Brandon McCarthy -- a potential fifth starter candidate -- on Monday. It could still happen, but Harden likely has a few offers on the table right now.

Tue Dec 14 201018:18Report: A's to sign Rich Harden
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Rich Harden is signing with the Athletics.
Originally drafted by the A's in 2000, Harden posted a 3.42 ERA over parts of six seasons with the club before being traded to the Cubs in July of 2008. He posted a career-worst 5.58 ERA over 20 games (18 starts) with the Rangers this past season, but makes plenty of sense on an incentive-laden one-year deal, especially with a potential return to the Coliseum. Stay tuned.

Fri Dec 10 201018:47Report: Rox interested in Harden as reliever
The Denver Post's Troy Renck reports that the Rockies are interested in Rich Harden as a reliever.
Harden reportedly has a handful of teams after him, which isn't a surprise given how electric he can be when he's healthy. Some teams like him as a starter, but others want him only as a reliever. He'll likely have to settle on a one-year, incentive-laden deal somewhere.

Tue Dec 7 201010:23Multiple teams looking into Rich Harden
According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, "a number of teams" have checked in on free agent right-hander Rich Harden.
The Yankees, Twins, Rays, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Mariners and Rockies have all expressed interest in Harden, though some view him as a starter and others view him as a reliever. The 29-year-old posted an ugly 5.58 ERA in 2010, but he is one of the nastiest pitchers in all of baseball when everything is working. He can probably be had with a one-year contract.

Tue Dec 7 201000:22M's have interest in Rich Harden
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners have interest in free-agent right-hander Rich Harden.
The Mariners were interested in Harden last winter, so it's no surprise to see Jack Z involved here, especially now that he will come at a very cheap price. Harden, 29, went 5-5 with an ugly 5.58 ERA over 20 games (18 starts) with the Rangers this past season. While his health is always a question mark, he could really benefit with the move to Safeco Field.

Wed Oct 6 201018:25Rangers DFA right-hander Rich Harden
Rangers designated RHP Rich Harden for assignment.
The Rangers couldn't wait to get Harden off their big-league roster. He posted a miserable 5.58 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 20 appearances this season and will not have his $11 million option exercised for 2011.
Mon Oct 4 201009:44Harden won't be on Rangers' playoff roster
Rich Harden will not be on the Rangers' playoff roster.
Not a shock. Harden had some brutally ugly starts this season and the Rangers can't risk a blow-up in the postseason. He will finish 2010 with a 5-5 record, 5.58 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 20 appearances (18 starts). We're betting Texas will not exercise his $11 million mutual option for 2011.

Mon Aug 30 201020:11Rangers remove Rich Harden from rotation
The Rangers have removed Rich Harden from the starting rotation.
Harden gave up four runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Athletics. It's easy to argue that he deserved more time after he tossed 6 2/3 no-hit innings against the Twins last Monday, but keep in mind that he also walked five. The Rangers will go with Derek Holland on Friday, instead.

Mon Aug 23 201023:00Harden tosses 6 2/3 hitless innings Monday
Rich Harden held the Twins hitless over 6 2/3 innings Monday in a 4-0 win.
He walked five, struck out six and was wisely removed by manager Ron Washington after throwing 111 pitches. This was Harden's first outing since a DL stint due to shoulder issues, and he showed off his nasty, albeit inconsistent, arsenal. We have a tough time trusting him over a long stretch of time, but it would obviously be huge for the Rangers if Harden can stay healthy and keep pitching well down the stretch. He'll face the A's this weekend.
Mon Aug 23 201016:43Rangers activate Harden from DL
Rangers activated RHP Rich Harden from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected, he was activated to make the start against the Twins on Monday night. Harden, who was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis earlier this month, allowed just an unearned run over six innings while striking out 10 in a rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City last Wednesday. It was enough to bump Derek Holland from the rotation, but not nearly enough to be trusted in fantasy leagues.
Fri Aug 20 201017:34Harden to start Monday
The Rangers confirmed Friday that Rich Harden (shoulder) would come off the disabled list and start Monday's game against the Twins.
Michael Kirkman figures to be sent down to make room for him. AL-only leaguers can take the chance that Harden will string together a couple of quality outings in a row. He was sharp Wednesday, striking out 10 in six innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Thu Aug 19 201011:19Harden strikes out 10 in rehab start
Rich Harden (shoulder) allowed only an unearned run over six innings while notching 10 strikeouts in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.
Impressive. Harden allowed just three hits and walked three while taking a no-decision. He'll likely need at least one more rehab start before returning from the disabled list, but he could re-enter the Rangers' rotation if Derek Holland continues to struggle.

Wed Aug 18 201013:19Harden (shoulder) to make rehab start Wed
Rich Harden (shoulder) will make a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Harden was originally scheduled to pitch on Tuesday night, however he was scratched for a non-injury related issue. It's possible that the Rangers want him on the same turn as Derek Holland should he struggle in the starting rotation.

Tue Aug 17 201020:37Harden's rehab start to be rescheduled
Rich Harden (shoulder) had his Tuesday rehab start postponed, but not because of a physical issue.
Odd. According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers are currently trying to figure out a new schedule for him. It sounds like they don't want him anywhere near the major league team.

Sun Aug 15 201013:28Harden (shoulder) lands on disabled list
Rangers placed RHP Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with right shoulder tendinitis.
Harden was originally supposed to start Saturday but had that outing pushed to Tuesday. Now he'll start for Triple-A Oklahoma that day, albeit on a limited pitch count. The Rangers haven't announced who will fill in for the righty in the rotation. Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Scott Feldman are options.

Tue Aug 10 201017:16Rangers push back Harden's spot in rotation
The Rangers have pushed back Rich Harden's spot in the starting rotation until at least Sunday.
Harden was excellent in his return from the disabled list, but walked five and couldn't make it out of the third inning against the A's on Saturday. Don't be surprised if Derek Holland replaces him in the starting rotation.
