Tue Nov 23 202121:02Kevin Gausman's Reported Market Includes Four Teams
According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, free-agent starting pitcher Kevin Gausman's market includes four teams. Per Morosi, those teams are the Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, and Toronto Blue Jays. Of course, Gausman spent the last two seasons with San Francisco. He had a breakout campaign in 2021, pitching to a 2.81 ERA and an even 3.00 FIP in 192 innings while registering 227 strikeouts and surrendering 50 walks. Because Gausman accepted the qualifying offer from the Giants last winter he was ineligible to receive a qualifying offer this offseason and thus wouldn't cost a draft pick to sign.

Sun Oct 10 202120:11Kevin Gausman Not Good Enough In NLDS Game 2
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman took the loss in Saturday's 9-2 NLDS Game 2 game against the Dodgers. Gausman pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. The 30-year-old's performance was not enough to keep his team in the game and did not align with his regular season 2.81 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. It remains to be seen if and when Gausman will pitch next, but the Giants will hope to get an outing from him more similar to his regular season starts.

Tue Oct 5 202123:00Kevin Gausman Or Logan Webb To Start NLDS Game 1
San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler has yet to announce his starter for Friday's Game 1 of the NLDS, but he expressed full trust in both Kevin Gausman and Logan Webb, per NBCSports.com's Alex Pavlovic. The two pitchers both had fantastic seasons, compiling 2.81 and 3.03 ERAs, respectively. Either pitcher would be a solid choice given their performances throughout the regular season. Kapler also said one of them will start on Friday and the other on Saturday, with the Game 1 starter coming back as a potential Game 5 starter. Both pitchers would be available for a Game 5, if needed.

Thu Sep 30 202119:32Kevin Gausman To Start Against Padres On Saturday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman will make one more start this season. He has been named the starter for Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres. Anthony DeSclafani is pitching the series opener against the Padres on Friday with Logan Webb closing out the series on Sunday. If the Dodgers manage to pull ahead of the Giants, Gausman won't be a candidate to start in the NL Wild Card game. However, the team wanted to prioritize getting him one more start before the postseason. He's had some struggles in September as he has a 4.64 ERA over six starts this month, but he's coming off a dominant performance in Coors Field where he pitched six innings and allowed one earned run while striking out 11.

Wed Sep 22 202109:57Kevin Gausman Stumbles Again Tuesday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman turned in his second straight subpar start in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Padres. Gausman pitched just 4 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits (including three home runs) and no walks with three strikeouts. Gausman's last two starts have both been against the Padres and he has allowed four runs in each. He is still 14-6 with a 2.92 ERA and 1.06 WHIP on the season, but season-long numbers won't help fantasy managers lock up a championship now. His next start will be on the road against the Rockies. This is a tough venue for Gausman to attempt to right the ship and fantasy managers could consider sitting him, but he has pitched so well all season that starting him would also be a viable option.

Fri Sep 17 202109:52Kevin Gausman Takes Sixth Loss Of Season Thursday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman fell to 14-6 in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Padres. Gausman pitched 5 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with seven strikeouts. It was one of his worst starts of the season in terms of runs allowed, which speaks to how well he has pitched. He will take his 2.78 ERA and 1.03 WHIP into a rematch with the Padres next week, where he should definitely be started by fantasy managers.

Tue Aug 24 202120:21Kevin Gausman Placed On The COVID Injured List
San Francisco Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday due to side effects from the vaccine. He is scheduled to face the Atlanta Braves on Friday but could have his start pushed back after dealing with vaccine side effects. The 30-year-old has been terrific in 2021, owning a (12-5) record along with a 2.47 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 174:46 K: BB across 146 innings. Gausman will need a few extra days to recover and is expected to have Friday's start pushed back to early next week. Fantasy managers in weekly formats should play it safe this week and bench the Giants ace. Stay tuned for further updates.

Sun Aug 8 202112:34Kevin Gausman Back From Paternity List
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was reinstated from the paternity list, the team announced. The timing was ideal for Gausman, the Giants and his fantasy managers. He pitched against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing just one run over six innings while striking out eight. His next start is currently scheduled for Tuesday, a rematch with the Diamondbacks, so he is apparently returning to the club without missing a turn in the rotation. In other moves, right-handed pitcher John Brebbia was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento, infielder-outfielder Thairo Estrada was optioned to Triple-A and pitcher Aaron Sanchez was designated for assignment. Gausman, 10-5 with a 2.31 ERA, should remain a fantasy ace the rest of the way.

Thu Aug 5 202107:15Kevin Gausman Expected To Go On Paternity Leave Thursday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman told reporters that he's expecting to go on paternity leave on Thursday. He and his wife are expecting their second daughter on Friday. The timing seems to be pretty ideal for Gausman, the Giants and his fantasy managers. Gausman pitched against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing just one run over six innings while striking out eight. His next start is currently scheduled for Tuesday, a rematch with the Diamondbacks. There's a good chance he'll go on paternity leave and then return to the club without missing a turn in the rotation.

Thu Aug 5 202101:46Kevin Gausman Bounces Back Wednesday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman had endured three consecutive tough outings entering Wednesday's matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he appeared to once again be in all-star form for this one. Gausman allowed just one run on five hits and no walks in six innings while striking out eight batters, leading him to his 10th win and 15th quality start in 22 games this year. Fantasy managers may have been concerned before seeing this performance, but Gausman will look to continue his outstanding season going forward.

Wed Aug 4 202108:44Kevin Gausman Struggling Over His Last Three Starts
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman has been one of the best pitchers in fantasy all year long, but he's hit a bit of a rough stretch lately. He's failed to reach the end of the fifth inning in each of his past three starts. Over that three-start stretch, he's pitched a total of 11.2 innings and he has allowed 17 hits, nine walks and 11 earned runs. Gausman now has a 2.35 ERA on the year. However, he has a 3.19 xERA and a 3.45 xFIP, so he was due for some negative regression. Fantasy managers shouldn't panic. While he may not continue to be a top-five pitcher throughout the final stretch of the year, he still has a good chance to be a top-20 or even a top-10 pitcher going forward.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

A look at what’s happening around the majors on Friday: ___ CLOCK IS TICKING Time is running out for playoff contenders to bolster their rosters through a trade, and there likely will be more players changing teams before the 4 p.m. EDT deadline. The right-hander made what might have been his last start for the Washington Nationals, allowing one run and three hits in six innings to win the the opener of a doubleheader Thursday. He then watched the second game against Philadelphia from the dugout. There was a lot of movement Thursday, with the selling Nationals sending closer Brad Hand to Toronto. The New York Yankees acquired Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo after completing another trade to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers. Already with an eight-game lead over Cleveland... [More]
Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

Sat Jul 24 202104:03LEADING OFF: Indians changing team name to Guardians
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ GUARDIANS OF THE GAME After more than 100 years, the Cleveland Indians are getting a new name — the team will be called the Guardians next season. The name change, which has its supporters and critics among Cleveland’s fan base, ends months of internal discussions triggered by a national reckoning for institutions and teams to drop logos and names considered racist. “We do feel like we’re doing the right thing and that’s what’s driving this,” club owner Paul Dolan said Friday. “I know some people disagree, but if anything I’ve gotten more and more comfortable that we’re headed in the right direction.” The organization spent most of the past year whittling down a list of potential names that was at nearly 1,200. Cleveland’s new name was inspired by the large landmark stone edifices — referred to as traffic guardians — that flank both ends of the Hope Memorial Bridge, which connects downtown to Ohio City.
