Mon Jul 2 201219:02Friedrich to start Thursday vs. Cards
Christian Friedrich is scheduled to start Thursday against the Cardinals.
Friedrich is dealing with a little soreness after being hit in the right calf by a line drive during his most recent start on Saturday, so the Rockies have decided to push him back a day for precautionary reasons. Jeremy Guthrie will return to the rotation to start Wednesday.

Sat Jun 30 201223:07Friedrich strong in no-decision against Pads
Christian Friedrich twirled a strong game in a no-decision against the Padres on Saturday, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings of work.
Friedrich struck out five and didn't walk a batter. The only run he allowed came courtesy of a solo home run from Yasmani Grandal. This may have been the first time that manager Jim Tracy's four-man rotation has actually cost the Rockies a chance at a victory, as Friedrich was needlessly removed after throwing only 74 pitches, and Jeremy Guthrie subsequently blew the lead the following inning. Friedrich will face the Cardinals next.

Fri Jun 22 201223:15Friedrich ineffective against Rangers
Christian Friedrich was credited with his fourth loss Friday against the Rangers.
He allowed four runs and was pulled in the sixth inning after giving up home runs to Adrian Beltre and Mike Napoli. Despite being in Colorado's four-man rotation, Friedrich is just a low-end, NL-only option. He has a 5.65 ERA through his first 51 innings (nine starts).

Sat Jun 16 201218:51Friedrich pitches decently in loss to Tigers
Christian Friedrich pitched decently in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits over five innings of work.
He struck out four in the game, but also issued five walks. Miguel Cabrera got the scoring started with a mammoth home run in the first inning, then Friedrich walked Austin Jackson to force in a run in the fourth. The 24-year-old left-hander is now 4-3 on the year with a 5.60 ERA. He still face the Rangers in Texas up next on Friday.

Tue Jun 5 201201:59Christian Friedrich goes seven scoreless
Christian Friedrich allowed four hits over seven innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout of the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Friedrich had given up 16 runs in 16 innings since turning in back-to-back impressive outings to open his major league career. Tonight's effort was a whole lot better, and he moved to 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA overall. He'll get the Angels at home next time out.

Tue May 15 201201:38Christian Friedrich fans 10 in second start
Christian Friedrich struck out 10 while allowing one run in seven innings Monday against the Giants.
Friedrich has 17 strikeouts through two outings. Sure, they've come against the Padres and Giants, but that's still awfully impressive, and what was supposed to be a short stint in the majors now seems poised to turn into something more. He's fine to use in NL-only leagues with the Mariners next on the slate. We wouldn't be in any hurry to grab him in mixed leagues.

Wed May 9 201218:59Christian Friedrich earns win in debut
Making his major league debut, Christian Friedrich allowed two runs -- one earned -- over six innings Wednesday to beat the Padres at Petco Park.
Of course, the Padres aren't providing pitchers with much of a test right now. Still, Friedrich looked pretty good today and got plenty of swings and misses on his way to seven strikeouts. He earned himself another start at least, and since it would come against the Giants, he doesn't look like a bad play in NL-only leagues.

Wed May 9 201208:51Rockies recall LHP Friedrich from Triple-A
Rockies recalled LHP Christian Friedrich from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
As expected, Friedrich will make his major league debut Wednesday night against the Padres. Once considered one of the top left-handed pitching prospects in the game, the 24-year-old has found himself back on the radar by posting a 3.00 ERA and 27/4 K/BB ratio across 30 innings in five starts with the Sky Sox this season. He may not be up to stay, but give him a spin in NL-only leagues.

Fri Nov 18 201121:45Rockies add LHP Friedrich to 40-man roster
Rockies purchased the contract of LHP Christian Friedrich from Double-A Tulsa.
Friedrich was considered one of the top left-handed pitching prospects in the game following the 2009 season, but his star has faded over the past two seasons due to injury and ineffectiveness. Now 24 years old, he posted an ugly 5.00 ERA and 103/43 K/BB ratio over 133 innings this season at the Double-A level. The Rockies aren't ready to give up on his talent, but he may never reach the potential many thought he had just two years ago.

Mon Jul 19 201014:08Friedrich hit in elbow by liner at Double-A
Rockies pitching prospect Christian Friedrich had to leave his start for Double-A Tulsa on Sunday after being hit in the elbow by a line drive.
The left-hander was diagnosed with a contusion and will sit out for a start or two. Friedrich pitched in the 2010 Futures Game and has shown some serious bursts of brilliance this season in the minors, but you wouldn't know that by his current 2-6 record and 5.20 ERA. He really is a nice prospect.

Wed Apr 28 201014:58Rockies' Friedrich sidelined with sore elbow
Rockies prospect left-hander Christian Friedrich was placed on the 7-day DL for Double-A Tulsa due to left elbow soreness.
Friedrich was scratched from a start on Sunday, though it's not yet known whether he was simply being skipped this time through the rotation. The 22-year-old left-hander was off to a great start with the Drillers, posting a 2.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over his first three starts. He entered the year ranked as the 33rd best prospect according to Baseball America.
