Thornton has played in all five of Boston's games this season but has been limited off the bench to just 13.6 minutes on average.
Thornton has gave way to younger talent on Boston's roster this season and there's no reason to believe that will change over the course of the year. Unless injuries become a problem with the Celtics, Thornton will only be an option in deeper leagues.
Wed Oct 8 201419:07Thornton had root canal earlier in week
Thornton had a root canal earlier in the week, but will play in Wednesday's game against the Knicks, CSN Northeast's A. Sherrod Blakely reports.
It's impressive that he won't miss a preseason game due to the root canal, and he should be considered healthy moving forward.

Thornton had some dental work done and is a game-time decision for Wednesday's preseason game against the Knicks.
It's likely not a serious matter, and he should take the court sooner than later. It will be interesting to see how coach Brad Stevens values Thornton's experience as a volume scorer on losing teams in the league versus the youth and more well-rounded skill sets of Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley.
Wed Jul 9 201417:46Thornton to showcase talent this season?
Marcus Thornton has been told he'll get a chance to "showcase his talents" this year.
The Celtics basically just acquired him because of his expiring contract, so it's unknown what the Celtics plan to do with him. He's going to have a tough time getting minutes behind Avery Bradley or Jeff Green on the wing, so he's not a fantasy option. Plus, he'll have to worry about James Young and Marcus Smart.

Wed Jul 9 201410:37Marcus Thornton traded from Nets to Celtics
The Celtics traded for Nets guard Marcus Thornton on Wednesday, and they'll also get Cavaliers C Tyler Zeller and a first-round pick in the bargain.
Thornton is owed $8.6 million in the final season of his contract, a steep price-tag relative to his production, but Boston GM Danny Ainge did well to pile up another young big man and a future first-round pick. Avery Bradley is the unquestioned starting SG for the Celtics but they do need a reliable backup, so Thornton should reprise his role as a gunner off the bench.

Mon Jul 7 201409:10Suns, Mavs and Timberwolves like Thornton
The Suns, Mavericks and Timberwolves are interested in Marcus Thornton.
This is related to the Jarrett Jack trade rumor from last month. The Cavaliers are looking for a third team to take on Thornton's contract, so it'll likely be a three-way deal involving those teams. Since the Cavs seem to have everything lined up, it's just a matter of which team will miss out on free agents.

Sat Jun 21 201415:40Marcus Thornton possibly headed to Cleveland
The Cavs and Nets are discussing a deal involving Jarrett Jack for Marcus Thornton.
Coach David Blatt isn't really wasting time here and he looks like he'll want to add a shooter off the bench. Chances are Thornton would come off the bench, but he could also start with the Cavs not very deep on the wing.

Wed Apr 16 201418:46Thornton in odd starting lineup for Nets
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are out for the Nets on Wednesday, while they'll use a makeshift starting lineup of Marquis Teague, Jorge Gutierrez, Marcus Thornton, Jason Collins and Andray Blatche.
Mysteriously absent from that list is Mason Plumlee, who has been playing well, although he could still come off the bench. Deron Williams is also out, while Alan Anderson could play a few minutes. And if you're still trying to figure out who Gutierrez is, you're not alone.

Tue Apr 15 201423:31Marcus Thornton scores 24 in loss to NY
Marcus Thornton came off the bench for 24 points, three rebounds, two assists, a steal and four 3-pointers in 29 minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Knicks.
Whether the Nets play the regulars or not on Wednesday, Thornton should get a lot of minutes and should have another nice game.

Fri Apr 11 201423:32Thornton gets off 17 shots in loss to Hawks
Marcus Thornton scored 14 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 6-of-17 shots (including two threes) with two rebounds and one steal in 31 minutes.
Thornton could be lined up to carry some offensive load for the Nets, who have the five-seed locked up and already said that they'll be resting guys. He might shoot you out of a field goal percentage battle, but he has very good upside right now and is worth an add in most leagues.

Tue Apr 8 201423:19Marcus Thornton scores 16 w/ 4 threes
Marcus Thornton came off the bench for 16 points, four 3-pointers, six rebounds, four steals and a block on 6-of-8 shooting in Tuesday's win over Miami.
He's up to his old tricks, alternating good games with bad ones, and if we could look into a crystal ball and figure out on which night to play him, we would probably be in another business. Start Thornton at your own risk, but it's possible he could be set for a big finish with so many injuries around the league. Joe Johnson also had a nice game, hitting 9-of-17 shots and a 3-pointer for 19 points in the win.

Wed Apr 2 201422:54Marcus Thornton returns, scores eight
Marcus Thornton returned from a one-game absence on Wednesday with eight points, three boards and two 3-pointers in 21 minutes.
He was right back around his 21.5-minutes-per-game average with the Nets, which hasn't led to much output on the stat sheet. Thornton is going to have a tough time getting big minutes with how well Shaun Livingston has played this season and is not an option in most formats.

Wed Apr 2 201417:39Marcus Thornton back in the lineup on Wed.
Marcus Thornton (back) will play against the Knicks on Wednesday night.
He missed Tuesday's game after suffering a back injury on Sunday. Thornton has been very inconsistent in his time with the Nets, so he's not a fantasy option. If you were planning on using Alan Anderson in a deep league, you might want to reconsider.

Tue Apr 1 201418:38Marcus Thornton (back) out again on Tuesdat
Marcus Thornton (back) will not play vs. the Rockets on Tuesday.
His absence may cause Jason Kidd to play Shaun Livingston more often than usual, with Alan Anderson also taking on a bigger role as a perimeter gunner off the bench.

Tue Apr 1 201410:56Marcus Thornton questionable for Tuesday
Marcus Thorton (back) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Houston.
Thornton was not present at the portion of practice that was available to media members Tuesday morning, so the prevailing thought is that he won't be available for Tuesday's game against the Rockets. We'll update his status as more news becomes available, but Shaun Livingston should make for a strong play if Thornton doesn't suit up Tuesday night while Alan Anderson and Jorge Gutierrez would see some extra run as well.

Mon Mar 31 201409:24Marcus Thornton (back) has no timetable
Marcus Thornton (back) said he rushed back and aggravated his injury, and there is no clear date for his return.
Thornton will take his time recovering, to eliminate the injury as the Nets gear up the postseason, and this officially ends whatever fantasy value he may have had. His absence solidifies Shaun Livingston's playing time, while giving Alan Anderson and Jorge Gutierrez a few extra minutes off the bench.

Sun Mar 30 201420:05Marcus Thornton leaves w/ tight back Sunday
Marcus Thornton's back tightened up during Sunday's game, forcing him out with five points in 15 minutes of action.
Thornton won't return and we're considering him day-to-day until the Nets update his status. He was coming off a 10-point game on Friday and he's simply not worth using in fantasy leagues while he's limited to 20-25 minutes per game off the bench.

Fri Mar 28 201422:22Marcus Thornton (back) scores 10 pts vs. Cavs
Marcus Thornton played through a back injury to finish Friday's home win with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal as the Nets snapped a two-game losing streak.
Even when Thornton is 100 percent healthy his inconsistency is glaring -- he's scored at least 19 points in five games this season, but has yet to scored double-digits in consecutive games. He should be avoided as long as starters Deron Williams, Shaun Livingston and Joe Johnson are healthy.

Fri Mar 28 201410:29Marcus Thornton will try to play Fri vs Cavs
Marcus Thornton (back) will try to play against the Cavaliers on Friday.
Thornton told reporters that his back feels better and that he would try to "give it a go" against the Cavs on Friday night. Thornton is in the midst of a consistently inconsistent streak in which he's been scoring single-digit points and double-digit points every other game. If that pattern holds correct, Friday would be a game in which he'll score double-digit points, but fantasy owners starting Thornton should expect him to do what he does best: provide inconsistency.
