Sat Apr 23 201123:13Lyon blows save, winds up getting win
Brandon Lyon blew his second save of the season Saturday before coming away with a win against the Brewers.
Lyon entered in the ninth inning to a 6-5 lead. He got Carlos Gomez to fly out, but Ryan Braun launched a single one batter later and then Prince Fielder knocked Braun in to tie the game. Lyon got out of the inning and pitched well in the 10th, but he's had more than a couple missteps this season and isn't the most reliable fantasy option.

Thu Apr 14 201123:31Brandon Lyon notches second save
Brandon Lyon tossed a spotless ninth Thursday to record his second save in the win over the Padres.
Lyon has allowed just two baserunners over four innings since his nightmarish performance on Opening Day. Though he hardly has lethal stuff, the 31-year-old's job is quite safe, as there's really no one in the Astros bullpen fit for the ninth inning.

Thu Apr 7 201115:45Astros' Lyon earns first save
Brandon Lyon pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for a save Thursday against the Reds.
It was Lyon's first save chance since his Opening Day implosion. He allowed a couple of singles in this one, forcing Astros fans to sweat it out, but he managed to get the job done and lower his ERA to 11.57.

Fri Apr 1 201116:13Brandon Lyon blows first save
Brandon Lyon blew a save in epic fashion Friday, giving up three runs on six hits over 1/3 of an inning in the 5-4 loss to the Phillies.
NL Central closers have started off the year 0-for-3 in save chances, as Lyon's blowup followed John Axford's and Ryan Franklin's. Lyon was throwing batting practice out there, as he had little pep on his fastball and was leaving it out over the middle of the plate. The righty was terrific in the second half last year, converting 19 of 20 save chances, but the reality is that he's a shaky ninth inning option.

Sat Feb 26 201115:39Lyon scaled back offseason throwing
Brandon Lyon scaled back his offseason throwing in hopes of avoiding a setback like he had last year when he had to have a cyst on his throwing shoulder drained.
Lyon arrived to camp a couple weeks behind his fellow pitchers due to the lack of offseason throwing, but he feels in the long run it will help him. "I didn't take it too hard in the offseason, after what happened last offseason," Lyon said. "I felt like coming in here I was ahead of where I was last year by a long ways. Still, I didn't want to do it and get in that situation. I'm feeling good. Everything's coming along just the way I thought it would." Lyon will be the Astros' closer in 2011.

Sat Sep 11 201023:22Lyon allows three runs in loss to Dodgers
Brandon Lyon allowed three runs without registering an out Saturday in the Astros' loss to the Dodgers.
It was ugly, but Lyon has been excellent since taking over the ninth-inning role from Matt Lindstrom and probably won't be stripped because of one hiccup. Lyon is 14-for-15 in save opportunities this year.
Thu Sep 9 201023:25Lyon picks up another save
Brandon Lyon tossed a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 14th save of the season in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.
Lyon has now converted a save in 10 straight appearances, and he is 12-for-12 in save opportunities since taking over the ninth inning. If he keeps it up over the final month, it might be hard for the Astros not to go with him as their closer next season, as former closer Matt Lindstrom has been inconsistent in the role.
Mon Aug 23 201022:09Lyon closes the door again
Brandon Lyon tossed a scoreless ninth Monday to pick up his seventh save of the year in the win over the Phillies.
Lyon walked Carlos Ruiz to lead off the ninth but retired the next three batters in order. He's been unscored upon in seven games since taking over the closer role and has converted all five of his save opportunities during that time.
Thu Aug 19 201022:46Lyon earns fifth save, Astros beat Mets
Brandon Lyon earned his fifth save of the season Thursday in the Astros' 3-2 victory over the Mets.
Lyon is filling in for injured closer Matt Lindstrom and has mostly been solid in the role. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning Thursday in Houston and now has a 3.57 ERA on the year. Obviously he's a must-own.
Wed Aug 11 201017:15Astros' Lyon charged with five runs
Brandon Lyon was charged with five runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss Wednesday against the Braves.
He deserved the loss, but it's hardly fair that he was tagged with five runs. Astros manager Brad Mills had Lyon, who had given up just one hit in six innings this month, intentionally walk both Eric Hinske and Melky Cabrera in the top of the 10th. RBI hits followed each walk, and Lyon was removed with two runs in, the bases loaded and one out. Jeff Fulchino replaced him and immediately gave up a grand slam. So, Lyon, who initially pitched a perfect ninth in a tie game, saw his ERA rise from 3.14 to 3.91 even though he retired four of the seven batters he was allowed to face.
