Garrett Jones hit a game-winning three-run home run as the Marlins came from behind to edge the Cubs 6-5 on Tuesday.
With two runners on and the Marlins trailing 4-3 in the seventh inning, Jones connected on a Brian Schlitter pitch for his ninth home run of the season. It was Jones' only hit in four at-bats on the night. Serving as the Marlins' primary first baseman this season, the 32-year-old is batting .267/.331/.453 with 32 RBI.

Tue May 20 201423:49Jones' four hits not enough in Marlins' loss
Garrett Jones went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs batted in, but the Marlins fell to the Phillies on Tuesday.
While Jones' four hits represented two-thirds of the Marlins' total on the night, the club drew a total of eight walks. Jones knocked in a go-ahead run with a third-inning double, and brought his team within one run with a ninth-inning double. The first baseman has been a welcome contributor to the Marlins, as he is now slashing .273/.339/.472.

Sat May 10 201401:51Garrett Jones fans four times in loss
Garrett Jones struck out all four times he was up and committed his fourth error at first base in Friday's loss.
Jones sure has cooled off in a hurry; since a three-double game on May 2 raised his average to .282, he's gone 2-24 with no RBI in six games. We doubt he'll prove to be a reliable mixed-league option this season.

Fri May 2 201422:29Jones doubles three times to lead Marlins
Garrett Jones tied a Marlins team record with three doubles, leading the Marlins to a 6-3 victory over the Dodgers in Miami on Friday.
Jones finished the night 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. He's off to a strong start to the season, slashing .282/.333/.476 with five homers and 15 RBI, and is worth consideration as a corner infield option in mixed leagues.

Garrett Jones launched his first home run as a Marlin Sunday, hitting a solo shot in a loss to the Phillies.
Jones' longball came in the fifth inning off of Kyle Kendrick. He also drew a walk on the day. The former Pirate has been hitting either fourth or fifth regularly for the Marlins so far but is sporting just a .224/.316/.327 batting line.

Sat Mar 22 201416:17Garrett Jones homers in second straight
Garrett Jones went 2-for-3 and homered in a second straight game Saturday against the Mets.

Sun Mar 16 201417:59Garrett Jones goes hitless in loss
Garrett Jones went 0-for-3 against the Yankees on Sunday and is in a 2-for-31 slump.
We think Jones is done as a useful major leaguer, but that didn't stop the Marlins from giving him a two-year, $7.5 million contract and a guaranteed starting job over the winter. He'll likely be the team's cleanup hitter against right-handers, at least for a month or two.

Fri Feb 28 201416:38Garrett Jones hits two-run homer in win
Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer off Carlos Martinez in the Marlins' 5-4 win over the Cardinals on Friday.
After agreeing to a two-year, $7.5 million contract in December, Jones is slated to be the Marlins' cleanup hitter, at least against righties. The Marlins may give him a chance to start against lefties as well, but Jeff Baker is the much better choice to play first on those days.

Tue Dec 10 201317:35Marlins finalize two-year deal with 1B Jones
Marlins signed 1B Garrett Jones to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
The contract was agreed to on Monday and then finalized Tuesday after Jones passed his pre-signing physical. The 32-year-old batted just .233 with a .289 on-base percentage in 2013 for the Pirates, but he has some power and fares pretty well against right-handed pitching. Miami will presumably use him in a first base platoon.

Mon Dec 9 201309:50Marlins finalize two-year deal with G. Jones
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins have finalized their two-year deal with Garrett Jones.
An official announcement is expected Monday for the two-year contract, which is believed to be worth $7.5 million. Jones batted just .233/.289/.419 in 440 plate appearances this past season for the Pirates. He's expected to platoon at first base for the Fish.

Fri Dec 6 201313:49Marlins 'closing in' on 1B Garrett Jones
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Marlins are "closing in" on a deal with Garrett Jones.
Rosenthal says the pact could be for two years, though the financials aren't available yet. Jones hit only .233/.289/.419 across 440 plate appearances in 2013, but he's not a bad platoon guy with a career .271/.337/.489 line against right-handed pitching. Once Jones is officially aboard with the Fish, expect Miami to go all out in pursuing a trade of Logan Morrison.

Fri Dec 6 201310:06Marlins have had 'serious' talks with Jones
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have had "serious discussions" with Garrett Jones.
They would want him as a first baseman, which means Logan Morrison could be on his way out. Jackson says the club will explore trade options for LoMo over the next week and could flip him for a third baseman. Jones was non-tendered by the Pirates earlier this week after hitting .233/.289/.419 across 440 plate appearances in 2013.

Tue Dec 3 201300:31Garrett Jones non-tendered by Pirates
Pirates non-tendered 1B/OF Garrett Jones.
He's officially a free agent now after being designated for assignment last week. Jones hit only .233/.289/.419 across 440 plate appearances in 2013, but he's a career .271/.337/.489 hitter against right-handed pitching. He'll be on someone's Opening Day roster in 2014.

Mon Nov 25 201313:18Bucs designate Garrett Jones for assignment
Pirates designated 1B Garrett Jones for assignment.
Jones was due a raise this winter in his third year of salary arbitration and the Pirates didn't want to pay it after watching him bat just .233/.289/.419 across 440 plate appearances in 2013. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter does have some decent raw power and should be able to attract interest from multiple teams.

Fri Aug 30 201322:04Jones homers, drives in four vs. Cardinals
Garrett Jones went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's win over the Cardinals.
Jones drove in two runs with a double in the first inning, connected for a solo homer in the fourth (the 100th of his career), and singled home a run in the fifth. The 32-year-old entered the night with just seven hits and four RBI through his previous 23 games this month, but he broke through at just the right time for the Pirates.

Sun Jul 21 201316:40Jones hits solo homer off Bailey in win
Garrett Jones hit a solo homer off Homer Bailey in Sunday's win over the Reds.
It was Jones' only hit in three at-bats. Jones, sitting on a five-game hitting streak, is now batting .259/.309/.445 and is on pace for 17 homers. Over his career, he has hit much better when playing the outfield as opposed to first base. Keep that in mind if the Pirates deal for a first baseman such as Justin Morneau or Kendrys Morales.

Sun Jun 2 201317:27Garrett Jones hits game-tying homer
Garrett Jones had just one hit Sunday, but it was a big one, as he launched a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth inning in a comeback win over the Reds.
Instead of bringing in Aroldis Chapman with two outs and a runner on to face Jones, who is feeble against left-handed pitching, Reds manager Dusty Baker stuck with Jonathan Broxton. Jones creamed a ball down the right field line that just stayed fair and landed in the Allegheny River on the fly, something that had only been done once before. It was Jones' sixth homer of the season.

Fri May 10 201322:20Garrett Jones has three-run homer vs. Mets
Garrett Jones had a big day at the plate Friday against the Mets, going 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs scored.
Jones also doubled twice. The three-run shot was originally ruled as in play, but it was switched to a home run after instant replay review. Fortunately for the Pirates, the umpires got it right this time. With his pop against right-handers, Jones should continue to have value in mixed leagues which allow daily lineup changes.

Mon Apr 29 201323:16Garrett Jones homers for Pirates
Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer Monday in a losing cause against the Brewers.
Jones was in a bit of a power drought until Sunday, but now he's suddenly hitting .319 with three homers and 15 RBI for the season. All three of the homers have come in road games. Just like last year, he's having a tough time when the Pirates are home at PNC Park.
