Saltalamacchia went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Saltalamacchia was a late addition to Wednesday's lineup, receiving the start after Welington Castillo was scratched with a sore left wrist. Combining his hot hitting with Castillo's injury concerns, Salty may suddenly find himself playing regularly at the end of a largely uninspired stint with the Diamondbacks.

Saltalamacchia hit his sixth home run as part of a 2-for-3 day Tuesday in a loss to the Giants.
Salty is still behind Welington Castillo on the depth chart, but is playing a bit more and better recently - he is 15-for-53 (.283/.356/.547) with three home runs, five doubles and eight runs scored in the past 30 days. The Diamondbacks have several long-term catching options, so his tenure with the team is uncertain, but his performance down the stretch should earn him an opportunity somewhere in 2016.

Saltalamacchia drew a walk and hit a homer in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies.
Saltalamacchia has offered more production for the Diamondbacks than he showcased with the Marlins this season, but his .197/.289/.362 overall batting line doesn't make a compelling case for more at-bats, especially while regular catcher Welington Castillo continues to show a surprising amount of power.

Saltalamacchia went 1-for-4 with his fourth home run, two runs and a walk Tuesday in a win over the Phillies.
Saltalamacchia made his third start in the past seven games and has hit well in those contests, but with Welington Castillo knocking the cover off the ball he is still firmly in the back up role.
Sun Aug 2 201511:55Saltalamacchia 1-4 and drove in run Saturday in loss to Astros
Saltalamacchia went 1-for-4 and drove in a run Saturday in a loss to the Astros.
The veteran backstop is not playing much behind Welington Castillo, but with a .200/.296/.314 line with the D-backs he hasn't earned much more playing time. He will serve as the team's primary backup the rest of the season.

Saltalamacchia (neck) was officially activated from the disabled list Monday, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports.
Saltalamacchia is expected to remain on the 25-man roster with both Welington Castillo and Oscar Hernandez, but he'll likely serve in more of a backup role. None of the three has been overly impressive, so it wouldn't be surprising if there's a timeshare behind the plate, but Castillo seems the likely candidate to receive the majority of starts.

Saltalamacchia (neck) will be activated from the DL when first eligible Tuesday at Seattle, Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Manager Chip Hale intends to carry three catchers once the move is made, meaning another position will be affected by Saltalamacchia's activation. In a month and a half with the Diamondbacks, Saltalamacchia has primarily spelled Welington Castillo, accruing a .213/.319/.344 line with one homer, four RBI, and seven runs in 61 at-bats across 20 games. However, it's unclear how catcher reps will break down between Saltalamacchia, Castillo, and Oscar Hernandez.

Saltalamacchia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained neck.
This is the first mention of a "strained left neck" for Saltalamacchia, who will land on the DL for at least 15 days. He was placed on the disabled list Friday in a corresponding move for the Diamondbacks to activate Ender Inciarte from the DL. Welington Castillo figures to handle the majority of the catching duties for Arizona while Saltalamacchia is on the shelf.
Fri Jul 17 201515:43Jarrod Saltalamacchia: (Neck) Placed On 15-Day Disabled List
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained neck.
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained neck. Saltalamacchia will be on the disabled list until at least July 31, though his stint could be backdated a few days because he has not played since Sunday.

Saltalamacchia went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored Saturday in a win over the Rockies.
Making just his third start in the past 10 games, Salty produced his first multi-hit game in more than a month. He has been better with Arizona than he was with Miami, but he has still posted just a .214/.318/.357 line with the D-Backs. The return of Oscar Hernandez from the DL could cut into Saltalamacchia's playing time further and bears watching.
Sun Jun 28 201514:13Saltalamacchia 0-4 Saturday in loss to Padres
Saltalamacchia went 0-for-4 Saturday in a loss to the Padres.
Salty has been better recently, collecting three hits in ten at-bats and three walks over his last four games, but his overall line with Arizona is a meagre .184/.293/.306 and he is behind Welington Castillo on the D-back's depth chart.

Saltalamacchia went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored in Sunday's 7-2 victory over the Padres.
It was just the fourth double of the season for Salty, and only his ninth hit, a far cry from his days as a backstop for the Red Sox. His performance has been miserable so far (.118 average, .218 OBP) and he seems firmly planted behind Welington Castillo on the depth chart.
Sat Jun 6 201517:59Saltalamacchia out of lineup Saturday against Mets
Saltalamacchia is out of the lineup Saturday against the Mets.
Saltalamacchia will sit in favor of Welington Castillo for the second day in a row, this time against a right-hander (Bartolo Colon). It remains to be seen how the playing time will shake out moving forward.
Fri Jun 5 201517:14Saltalamacchia out of lineup Friday against Mets
Saltalamacchia is out of the lineup Friday against the Mets.
It's unclear what the split will be behind the plate for the Diamondbacks, but Welington Castillo should see starts against left-handed pitching. That's the case Friday, as southpaw Jon Niese starts for the Mets, resulting in Castillo's first start for his new club.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said he is unsure how Saltalamacchia and Welington Castillo will split playing time behind the plate, the Arizona Republic reports.
It sounds as if the two catchers will both get significant playing time, at least in the immediate future. Castillo will undoubtedly get most of the starts against left-handed pitching, but this probably won't be a strict platoon, which would favor Saltalamacchia.

Saltalamacchia went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run Wednesday against Atlanta.
Hey, there he is. In one day, Salty matched the number of hits he accumulated in nine games with Miami before being cut. He's still hitting a miserable .136, however, and if that doesn't change soon, he could very easily be displaced by hot-hitting prospect Peter O'Brien.
Tue Jun 2 201517:06Saltalamacchia not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Braves
Saltalamacchia is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Braves.
Jordan Pacheco will take over behind the plate as Saltalamacchia sits after starting two straight and three of four since being added to the major league roster. Saltalamacchia has gone 2-for-12 with five strikeouts and one run scored so far in his brief time with Arizona.
Sat May 30 201512:01Saltalamacchia out of lineup Saturday
Saltalamacchia is out of the lineup Saturday.
It seems like Saltalamacchia will start at catcher more days than not going forward with Arizona, but he will take a seat Saturday after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Friday. Jordan Pacheco gets the start behind the dish and will hit sixth Saturday.
Sat May 30 201501:05Saltalamacchia 0-4 with three strikeouts in Diamondbacks' win ov...
Saltalamacchia was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Diamondbacks' win over Milwaukee on Friday night.
Playing in his first game with Arizona, a collar with three strikeouts was not the script they were reading from. Tuffy Gosewich is now on the disabled list and may be lost for an extended period of time so Salty will split time with Jordan Pacheco, at least initially, but he will need to be productive at the plate to maintain a fair share of playing time.

Saltalamacchia will catch and bat sixth for the Diamondbacks on Friday against the Brewers, Steve Berthiaume of MLB.com reports.
Saltalamacchia's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Friday following Tuffy Gosewich's placement on the disabled list, and he'll be behind the plate as well. Both he and Jordan Pacheco should see time behind the plate until Gosewich returns, at which point the club will need to make a decision of which two to keep.
