Wed Aug 3 202200:17Tanner Houck Notches Eighth Save Of Season Tuesday
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Tanner Houck picked up his eighth save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Astros. Houck came on to end the game with a one-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. It was his second consecutive save and he now has a 3.15 ERA with just one blown save this season. The Red Sox have used a number of relief pitchers in save situations this season, but Houck appears to be the arm to roster in fantasy for the time being.

Thu Jun 30 202215:48Jarren Duran, Tanner Houck Back From Restricted List
The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Jarren Duran and right-hander Tanner Houck from the restricted list on Thursday and optioned infielder Yolmer Sanchez to Triple-A Worcester and designated right-hander Silvino Bracho for assignment in corresponding moves. Duran and Houck were unavailable for the series against the Blue Jays in Toronto this week because they aren't vaccinated against COVID. Duran is hitting well in his second major league season, going 17-for-52 (.327) with three RBI and four stolen bases in just 13 games. Houck, who has six saves and 47 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings over 22 outings (four starts), should return to being a favorite for closing duties in Boston this weekend against the Chicago Cubs.

Mon Jun 27 202217:36Jarren Duran, Tanner Houck Put On Restricted List
The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Jarren Duran and relief pitcher Tanner Houck on the restricted list on Monday and recalled right-hander Connor Seabold from Triple-A Worcester and selected the contract of infielder Yolmer Sanchez from Worcester in corresponding moves. Duran and Houck remain unvaccinated for COVID-19, so they'll be unavailable for the series in Toronto this week against the Blue Jays. With Houck not available in the back of Boston's bullpen, John Schreiber, Matt Strahm and possibly Jake Diekman will vie for save chances in Toronto. With Duran out on Monday, Rob Refsnyder is starting in right field and batting leadoff against Jays right-hander ... [More]

Sat Jun 18 202209:36Tanner Houck Locks Down His Third Save Against Cardinals
Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck closed out the team's 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday to earn his third save of the year. He came on in the ninth inning with two outs and a man on first base while the team had a 6-2 lead. He wound up giving up a pair of doubles and two runs -- only one charged to him -- before striking out Paul Goldschmidt to end the game. Houck has earned each of this three saves since June 10 and has emerged as the team's preferred ninth inning arm. He's a must-roster player in all formats while he continues to serve as the team's primary closer.

Mon Apr 25 202215:48Tanner Houck Placed On Restricted List
Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford were placed on the restricted list on Monday because they are unvaccinated from COVID-19. In a corresponding move, Tyler Danish and John Schreiber were called up from the minor leagues. The Red Sox are traveling to Canada this week to face the Toronto Blue Jays, but Houck and Crawford won't be allowed to make the trip. With Houck not making his next start until this Friday against the Baltimore Orioles, right-hander Garrett Whitlock is in line to make his second start of the year at Toronto on Thursday. Whitlock has been lights-out so far in 2022, and he fanned seven batters and walked none in four scoreless innings in his first start of the year on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Mon Apr 18 202208:14Tanner Houck Unvaccinated, Can't Pitch In Toronto
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck revealed to the Boston Globe on Sunday that he is not vaccinated. This means that he won't be allowed to travel with the team to Toronto for a four-game series against the Blue Jays later this month (April 25 to April 28). As the rotation is currently set up, Houck would have been slated to start Game 2 of the series. Red Sox manager Alex Cora hasn't revealed who will start in his place yet. Houck struggled in his first outing of the year, but he had a strong follow-up outing this weekend. Facing the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, he pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four.

Sun Mar 20 202222:19Tanner Houck To Win Rotation Spot
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck is all but certain to have a rotation spot to open the 2022 season, according to head coach Alex Cora. Nathan Eovaldi, Nick Pivetta and Houck are the team's three starters locked into rotation spots so far. Veterans Michael Wacha and Rich Hill and Garrett Whitlock are in the mix for the final two spots. MassLive's Chris Cotillo is guessing Wacha and Hill will round out the rotation. Houck, 25, pitched well in 18 appearances (13 starts) in his second big-league season with a 3.52 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 87:21 K:BB over 69 innings in 2021. Chris Sale's rib-cage injury has opened the door for the talented young right-hander.

Sat Oct 9 202120:45Tanner Houck Sparkles In Relief Win
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Tanner Houck came on in relief of Chris Sale in the second inning Friday and got Boston back on track against the Tampa Bay Rays, throwing five innings and allowing one run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts. He took the win in the 14-6 victory. This outing comes on the heels of five perfect innings in his final appearance of the regular season. Houck is unlikely to appear as a starter in this series due to his heavy usage in this game, but he'll be back in the bullpen as soon as Game 3 on Sunday.

Sat Oct 2 202121:16Tanner Houck Pitches Five Perfect Innings On Saturday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck was perfect through five innings in his start against the Washington Nationals on Saturday. He retired each of the 15 batters he faced, striking out eight of them. He was pulled after throwing 53 pitches. Unfortunately, he got minimal run support and wound up with a no decision. The 25-year-old has had a few dominant outings this year, but this was very clearly his most impressive showing of the year. He made a total of 18 appearances on the season (13 starts) and went 1-5 with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.

Sun Sep 19 202110:56Tanner Houck Earns First Win Out Of Pen
Boston Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck entered out of the bullpen Saturday, throwing 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball on one hit and no walks. He struck out three batters and earned his first win of the season. With the playoffs on the line, the Red Sox have chosen to maximize Chris Sale and Nathan Eovaldi's starts, making Houck more useful out of the pen. He's an excellent multi-inning weapon, but he doesn't hold very much fantasy value as a result.

Thu Sep 16 202100:19Tanner Houck Strikes Out Seven In Short Start
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck once again flashed his excellent stuff, striking out seven Seattle Mariners, but as usual he did not complete five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk in 4 1/3. As such, he's still in search of his first win of the season. Houck has struck out 70 batters in 57 2/3 innings this season, but he'll need to last a bit longer in order to qualify for wins or quality starts. For now, he's just a middle-of-the-road streaming option for fantasy managers.

Sat Sep 11 202100:25Tanner Houck Ineffective Against White Sox
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck was ineffective against the Chicago White Sox Friday night, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. The big blow was a Jose Abreu three-run home run, leaving Houck with his fourth loss of the season. He's still in search of his first win. Houck has posted solid numbers, with a 3.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings, but he won't be an effective fantasy starter until he goes deeper into games.

Sun Aug 29 202122:33Tanner Houck Takes No-Decision In Uneven Outing
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck worked himself into a number of jams Sunday against Cleveland, but he was fortunate enough to work himself out of most of them. Houck allowed three runs on one hit and four walks and three hit-batsmen in 5 1/3 innings while striking out three. This was his longest outing of the season, and he likely was given a longer leash with the bullpen depleted. Fantasy managers can count on excellent stuff with Houck, but he will not be a solid source of wins or quality starts.

Wed Aug 25 202101:36Tanner Houck Allows Three Runs To The Twins
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck lasted 4 2/3 innings Tuesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk to the Minnesota Twins in a no-decision. He struck out six batters. Boston was surely looking for more length from Houck, but this is what fantasy managers can expect for the rest of the year: brief, high-upside starts. Houck has yet to go more than five innings this season, and as such cannot be counted on for wins or quality starts, though he has whiffed an impressive 52 batters in 39 1/3 innings.

Wed Aug 18 202108:18Tanner Houck Optioned, But Should Remain In Rotation
The Boston Red Sox optioned starting pitcher Tanner Houck to Triple-A on Tuesday. Houck pitched the first game of the team's doubleheader against the New York Yankees earlier on Tuesday. He went four innings in the start, allowing five hits, no walks and two earned runs while striking out two. He was used as the team's 27th man in the doubleheader and because of that, he can be recalled by the team at any point. Houck should remain in the team's rotation and make his next start on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins. Houck has made nine appearances (seven starts) with the Red Sox this year and has gone 0-3 with a 3.12 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and a 31.9% strikeout rate.

Wed Aug 18 202100:54Tanner Houck Allows Two Runs In Game One
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck was recalled to start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the New York Yankees, and he went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks. He struck out two batters. Houck didn't have his best stuff in this one, but he battled enough to keep the Red Sox in the game. Fantasy managers are surely looking for more length from Houck, who hasn't gone more than five innings in an outing this year. Even so, his strikeout upside keeps him worthy of a roster spot.

Thu Aug 12 202120:00Tanner Houck Flashes Upside In Loss
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck took his third loss of the season Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but in doing so he flashed his terrific potential, especially as a fantasy asset. Houck allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and no walks in five innings, but it's his strikeout totals that really warrant attention. Houck set down eight batters, and he now has 44 in 30 2/3 innings this year to go with a 2.93 ERA. Now that he's been permanently moved into the rotation, he should be on fantasy rosters for his upside alone.

Wed Aug 11 202122:57Tanner Houck Starting Thursday
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Tanner Houck will start Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. Houck has had three stints with the Red Sox this season, starting five games and pitching to a 2.45 ERA in 25.2 innings. He has an impressive 34.3 K% to go along with a 6.7 BB%. Houck is a good option for fantasy managers looking for a high upside pitcher if he's still on the waiver wire. He has a big arm with high strikeout potential and may finally stay in the rotation after Garrett Richards and Martin Perez were moved to the bullpen.

Mon Aug 9 202100:52Tanner Houck Strikes Out Six In Rotation Tune-Up
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck made his first start since Martin Perez was demoted to the bullpen Saturday, lasting 3 2/3 innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks to the Toronto Blue Jays. He struck out six batters. While Houck has not officially been added to the starting rotation, it seems clear that both he and Chris Sale will be taking their turns going forward. Houck has elite strikeout upside, with 36 in 25 2/3 innings this season, and is worth an add in deep redraft leagues. He's long been a must in dynasty and keeper formats.

Thu Jul 29 202102:14Late-scratch Judge hits tiebreaking single for Yanks in 10th
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Aaron Judge went from being a late scratch to hitting a tiebreaking single in a two-run 10th inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight day, 3-1 on Wednesday night. Judge was taken out of the lineup about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Although no announcement was made about why, the All-Star right fielder struck out in the fifth pinch-hitting for Estevan Florial. Judge returned to the team Tuesday after going on the COVID-19 injured list July 16. New York also had a big night off the field. The Yankees reached a deal to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch from Pete Fairbanks (3-4) leading off the 10th, putting runners on first and second. Judge... [More]
