Eric Young Jr. has been sent for X-rays after a ball ricocheted off the batting cage and hit him in the right eye prior to Sunday's game.
EY had been slated to start the game, but he's been replaced by Juan Lagares. An update on his status will be available later Sunday.

Thu May 1 201416:30EYJ not in Thursday's lineup
Eric Young, Jr. is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies.
Young is the odd man out now that Juan Lagares is back from the disabled list. The Mets are using Chris Young, Lagares, and Curtis Granderson from left to right in the outfield with Juan Nicasio on the hill for Colorado.

Wed Apr 16 201419:14Eric Young pilfers two more bags Wednesday
Eric Young went 1-for-4 while stealing two more bases in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks.
Young has been a thief on the basepaths to start the year, as he's now got nine steals without being caught. That mark is good for second in the National League. He also scored his league-leading 12th run in the game. There's no reason he shouldn't be in an everyday fantasy player right now.

Wed Apr 16 201400:34Young collects 3 hits, 2 RBI, 2 runs in win
Eric Young Jr. finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-0 blowout win over the Diamondbacks.
Young has now reached safely in 11 straight games. He provides zero power -- he's collected two doubles, one triple, and zero homers thus far -- but wreaks havoc on the basepaths when he gets on. Young is currently second in the NL with seven steals, and he's fifth in the league with 11 runs scored. Monitor his playing time closely once Chris Young returns.

Thu Apr 10 201423:33Eric Young Jr. steals three bases in win
Eric Young Jr. scored four of the Mets' six runs Thursday after going 3-for-5 with a triple and three steals in the win over the Braves.
This is why the Mets are playing Young; they picture him wreaking havoc in the leadoff spot and having games like this on a regular basis. Of course, going into tonight, he was hitting .154 with one run scored in seven games. Last year, he had a .310 OBP in 539 at-bats for the Rockies and Mets. Young will certainly have some fantasy value for as long as he's a primary starter for the Mets. However, it'd be for the best if he sits more often than not once Chris Young returns.

Mon Mar 31 201408:59EY Jr. batting leadoff in Mets' OD lineup
Eric Young Jr. is batting leadoff in the Mets' Opening Day lineup Monday against the Nationals.
EY Jr. at leadoff will probably be a frequent look all season, but the Mets carried young center fielder Juan Lagares north with them after camp and will want him to get at least semi-regular playing time. Young's fantasy value is limited right now in weekly leagues.

Thu Mar 27 201415:44Eric Young Jr. goes 3-for-4
Eric Young Jr. singled in three of his four at-bats Thursday against the Nationals.
Young hit leadoff today in what could have been the Mets' Opening Day lineup. Still, it doesn't sound like the team has any intention of demoting Juan Lagares, so Young won't be a full-time player. That will probably prevent him from being worth playing in shallow mixed leagues.

Sun Mar 23 201416:35Eric Young Jr. goes hitless in loss
Eric Young Jr. went 0-for-3 with a strikeout as the Mets' leadoff hitter Sunday.
It's not looking good for Young, even though he was the favorite to open the season as the Mets' left fielder and leadoff hitter. He's batting just .237, and while his .326 OBP isn't bad, he's scored a modest four runs in 13 games. Juan Lagares has outplayed him, as has leadoff alternative Chris Young, so E.Y. should be a fourth outfielder initially.

Tue Mar 18 201416:52Eric Young Jr. goes 0-for-4
Eric Young Jr. went 0-for-4 on Tuesday, dropping his spring average to .241.
All indications were that Terry Collins wanted Young to beat out Juan Lagares for a starting job this spring, mostly because he'd be the better leadoff option. Unfortunately for him -- but very fortunate for the Mets -- Lagares is outhitting Young and playing his usual stellar defense. He went 2-for-4 from the ninth spot in the order today, raising his average to .306. If this keeps up, Young will probably be the Mets' fourth outfielder and Chris Young could lead off.

Sat Mar 15 201419:45Young doubles, scores run against Cubs
Eric Young Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored against the Cubs on Saturday.
Young also walked and drove in a run. The speedster may split time in the Mets outfield with Juan Lagares, but when he plays he'll be at the top of a decent Mets lineup. Young is batting .304 while Lagares is hitting .321 this spring.

Mon Mar 3 201408:33Eric Young (side) to make spring debut Tues.
Eric Young Jr. (side) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday.
Young had been nursing some tightness in his side, but it was never a major concern and he should have no trouble preparing himself for Opening Day. The 28-year-old outfielder finished with 46 stolen bases in 2013 and will likely bat leadoff this summer for the Mets.

Thu Feb 27 201415:24Eric Young Jr. (side) hit off tee on Thursday
Eric Young Jr. (side) hit off a tee Thursday.
The workout went well, but the Mets probably won't let Young play in a Grapefruit League game until next week as a precautionary measure. The 28-year-old speedster is expected to lead off for New York this season. He stole a league-leading 46 bases in 2013.

Wed Feb 26 201413:40Eric Young, Jr. dealing with side tightness
Eric Young Jr. is dealing with some tightness in his side.
The tightness is considered minor, but Young could be limited over the next couple of days. Despite the additions of Curtis Granderson and Chris Young over the winter, Young could still begin the season as the Mets' leadoff man.

Tue Feb 11 201419:39Young Jr. a better bet to start than Lagares?
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that the club will start their three best offensive options in the outfield.
Obviously Curtis Granderson and Chris Young have spots sewn up, so we're talking about an Eric Young Jr. vs. Juan Lagares battle for the final spot. Lagares will start the Grapefruit League opener in center field, but the Mets are looking for improvement from him at the plate, particularly from an on-base percentage perspective. While not nearly in the same class as Lagares defensively, Young is probably a better bet offensively at this point. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com writes that Alderson wanting more offense "may be the vehicle that gets Eric Young Jr. into the lineup... and gives the Mets their leadoff hitter." Manager Terry Collins has also expressed a preference to use Young in the leadoff spot.

Thu Jan 16 201421:49Mets, Eric Young Jr. avoid arbitration
Mets avoided arbitration with OF Eric Young Jr. by agreeing to a one-year, $1.85 million contract.
It was Young's first year of arbitration eligibility. The speedy outfielder gets a raise after leading the National League with 46 stolen bases last season. He's expected to serve in a backup role in 2014 but remains a worthy late-round fantasy option due to his speed.

Sun Sep 29 201316:43Young goes 1-for-4 with two stolen bases
Eric Young, Jr. finished 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI Sunday against the Brewers.
The 28-year-old wins the National League stolen base crown with 46 steals and will finish second in the majors behind Jacoby Ellsbury. Young ends the year with a -0.9 WAR (roughly 0.6 with the Mets, -1.4 with the Rockies), which underscores how much more valuable he is in fantasy baseball than real baseball. He slashed .249/.310/.336 with two homers and 31 RBI over 535 at-bats in 2013.

Thu Sep 12 201317:10Young has two hits, steals base vs. Nationals
Eric Young, Jr. went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored Thursday against the Nationals.
Young now ranks fifth in the majors with 37 stolen bases. The 28-year-old is only hitting .255 and doesn't offer much in the way of pop, but his speed makes him worth owning in most mixed leagues.

Tue Sep 3 201322:08Young triples, steals 35th base vs. Braves
Eric Young Jr. went 2-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base against the Braves on Tuesday.
Young now ranks third in the National League in stolen bases with 35, and he's begun to run more in recent days -- he's now stolen six bases in the last seven games. He needs to be owned in your league.

Sat Aug 31 201322:59Young collects three hits, stolen base in win
Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored against the Nationals on Saturday.
Young posted a three-hit game for the second time in three games. He scored two runs, drove in two runs and stole a base in the game as well. The stolen base was his 33rd of the year, as he's quietly been one of the more productive base burglars in the league this season.

Thu Aug 29 201317:10Young drives in career-high three vs. Phils
Eric Young, Jr. went 3-for-5 with a three-run triple and two runs scored Thursday against the Phillies.
Young had never had more than two RBI in a game in his previous 373 games in the majors, but he did it with one swing of the bat Thursday. The 28-year-old has scuffled for quite a while now as a part of the everyday lineup, but with his speed and ability to play multiple positions, he has likely carved out a place for himself as an active bench player with the Mets next season.
